Sorry but he'll never have the flowing natural locks like here:

Artificially altering your appearance *facepalm*
I dislike it when people cannot accept the way they look and go to surgery in order to change it.
(Excepted are actual defects that interfere with normal body functioning - irrelevant, since hair doesn't carry any vital function for us anymore.)

That's ridiculous IMO. If you have the money and it bothers you, do it!

This seems out of character for Nadal. He may have felt external pressure to make this choice. Who knows what type of expectations he is required to meet in terms of contractual agreements and his image?

For me, it's sad. I never thought I would see the day that Nadal would have plastic hair. For me he is a legend and I half wish I had never found out about this.

Are some people crazy on this board or what?

He's not going to have plastic hair. This is 2016, not 1416. They replace unhealthy hair follicles with healthy ones and hence the hair grows as before once you do that. His hair will look much better. Good move Nadal!

It won't be a full head of hair because that's not how it works. 4500 follicles won't take him back to where he was although I'm sure it will look much better.
Isn't that why they do multiple transplants? Matthew mcconaughey got one and he seems to have his locks back.

He can in Spanish.
Most of the world doesn't speak Spanish. Plus he just doesn't have Agassi's personality. He's far more shy and reserved. Look at the hit for Haiti match where he teamed up with Agassi against Federer and Sampras. He barely squeaked. Federer and Agassi dominated the on court comedy.

And still more people flock to see him just practising than would go and see some live matches.

Which is why he needs his hair.
I think everyone is agreed that he does need his hair. I'm sure Agassi would have had a transplant if the procedure was as advanced as it is today. After all, Agassi agonised over his hair for ages to the extent of wearing a wig and in his own words from his autobiography, it was a hard decision for him to go completely bald.

Wikipedia: ¤¤ Approximately 406 million people speak Spanish as a native language, making it second only to Mandarin in terms of its number of native speakers worldwide. It also has 60 million speakers as a second language. Spanish is one of the six official languages of the United Nations.
Spanish is the most popular second language learned by native speakers of American English. From the last decades of the 20th century, the study of Spanish as a foreign language has grown significantly, in part because of the growing populations and economies of many Spanish-speaking countries, and the growing international tourism in these countries.
Spanish is the most widely understood language in the Western Hemisphere.¤¤

You are wrong, "the comedy" had nothig to do with Fed and it was ugly, not funny. Agassi was mocking/insulting Sampras during the whole match.

You are using one escape to label a while event. Plenty of other genuinely funny moments.

¤¤ During a charity doubles match Friday night at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, the two rivals, who have been engaged in a public war of words over the past six months, aired their grievances on live microphones in front of 18,000 fans and a live television audience. The spat began as an innocent joke by Sampras and quickly escalated into an uncomfortable exchange which included bitter insults, genuine mocking and culminated in a Sampras serve aimed squarely at Agassi's head.
Seriously.
The whole thing was so unbelievable and surreal that it almost didn't seem serious. You kept waiting for someone to laugh and let everyone else in on the joke, but it never happened. The tension was very real. Agassi came across as completely petty and bitter and Sampras appeared baffled by it all. Poor Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer didn't know what to do: ...
Sampras does a tame imitation of Agassi's much-mocked pigeon walk and then Agassi calls him a cheapskate? What kind of comeback is that? That's a bit of an overreaction, no? (And it's worse that the story is recycled from Agassi's autobiography.)
At least the crowd didn't play along with Agassi. There were more boos than laughs when he made fun of Pete's bad tipping, a reaction which only seemed to force Agassi into digging himself deeper by keeping the "joke" going. After the cracks about valets and dollar bills, Agassi deserved to have the ball served at him. He acted like a jerk.¤¤

And you're once again quoting about that single instance. Go watch the match, and see who got the most laughs. Agassi by a country mile.

Why is it any different from other material purchases which makes you feel good about yourself or are perceived to elevate your status e.g a watch, car a well cut suit etc?

I dunno about this poster specifically, but I'm guessing it's because it's Nadal getting it done.

If Federer were having his chest hair grafted onto his head, there'd be praise about how he's bucking the stigma surrounding men who care about their looks.

Wow... The article says he "underwent a ten-hour Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) procedure".

SEE, Never argue with the Genius. I told you so. but catch is RAFA will still have to use Rogaine and maybe Propecia too if it is needed. and this procedure is around $30,000. which is NOT cheap. but Rafa can afford it. but sadly rest of us,,,,,most of can't afford it. but NEVER fear folks.........in 4-5 years there is Medication coming that will restore your hair in 4-5 month. Let's all hope this medicine makes it thru FDA approval and gets into the market...............................

Stages of FUE
Yes yes,, you take it off from the side of head and put it on top of the head. and that hair NEVER falls off, because hair from sides of the head doesn't fall off ever.

Question I have is ,,, I guess Rogaine didn't work for Rafa.....that is too bad. I wonder what the cause of his hair loss was ??

Good one lol.
No, I just wanted to make clear what message people think it sends. If the answer is "none, it's just a personal thing", good. If anyone thinks it's cool to do because Nadal or any other famous person did it, it's bad reasoning.
I got the answers that Nadal is preserving his image either so it keeps selling or for personal mental comfort, or both. I dislike the first reason, because he has enough money and fame already, but appreciate the second one, because confidence is important for his job, so if he thinks it helps him, it makes sense to go for it. Hopefully that's the primary motivation, rather than any outside pressure.
