Yep Nadal is clearly the second best player on grass. Hopefully he pulls the upset tomorrow. It would be incredible. :D

Last Monday I knew the two who would make the Final: Federer and Nadal. (You could say they were both "lucky" with Fed getting a Default from Haas and ... all the rain delays demanding daily play for the Men the rest of the way, making Nadal's chances -- as the fittest guy on the Tour -- nearly a "lock".) But that would be giving "luck" too much credit, IMO.

Rafa's the toughest guy on the Tour; Fed is the best. It figures they'd be in the Final this Wimbledon.

I do find it curious that Roger losing two French Finals in a row equals "failure" ... and Nadal making two Wimbledons in a row equals "success".

Because Roger is considered a great player on all surfaces, able to beat anyone at any time, whereas Rafa isn't expected to be able to play on any surface other than clay. So any success off clay is considered an overachievement.

That strikes me as a double-standard.

lets just give all you nadal fan boyz a big blue ribbon for the moral victory of the century. he made two wimbledon finals, didnt win any of course but made the finals being the number 2 player in the world. wow, he should go to the hall of fame right now for making these two finals....unbelievable

oh don't worry, mileslong, he'll be in the Hall of Fame if his winning record and improvement continue. he already has earned status as roger federer's nemesis. if he pulls off tomorrow, i'd hate to be fed.

As for Nadal being for real. Yeah, I think he's a real up and comer.

...Really hope he still have enough left in the tank to take Federer out tomorrow, ....

Raf's tank is LARRGE> And he's been filling it up over the past few days.
I feel this is a huge opportunity for him. Very realistic: Nadal - 2007 Wimbledon Champion. That just sounds incredible.

But if Roger does not play at the highest level, and it is windy out there, I think Raf's takes this.

I mean, seriously, his draw was so easy I could have atleast made it to the quarters

Yeah, riiiiiight.

He was close in the 5th, I think he proved he's for real. Fed is still the man on grass, though. Would've been funny if the King of Clay suddenly became the King of Grass too.

ok, well give him a blue ribbon for being federers so called nemesis, another moral victory duly noted...

This topic is ridiculous. Especially more so on what one would think would be a fairly savvy tennis fan and players' site.

You would think that, but then you spend some time here, and you realize it sounds more and more like a bunch of whiney, excuse-making, ProStaff hugging 15 yr olds who just started watching tennis in 2003.

Nadal and Fed are great tennis players period. With Wimbledon's surface getting slower, I think Nadal has a great chance in the years to follow and do a Borg (FO and Wimby back to back)

what a match yesterday between 2 great champions!!!

and anyone who still tries to dismiss nadal as just another clay court specialist has been smoking something. not only did he battle fed toe to toe for 4+ hours but he did it on grass AND after 6 straight days of playing - nadal is a beast!

I didn't see the Youzhny match but many people said Nadal turned it up starting in the third set. Maybe Youzhny really was hurt, but Nadal won in five sets fair and square it seems.

Nadal is a fighter and maybe the best thing to happen to tennis in a long while.

I watched the match and those people are wrong.

When and if Rafa wins on a fast surface and beats the Fed--the critics of Rafa will have to silence a bit. And, when the Fed beats Rafa at the FO, the Rafa fans will have to silence a bit.

The above will surely happen given the age difference and the fact that Nadal's normal game is a winning game against Federer more times than not.

wow guys, nadal wins the whole clay season except one match, destroys the RG, gets to a 2nd wimbledon final, takes federer to 5, almost beats him. #1 in the atp race, and he still gets no credit? i agree he's a dirtballer, but he dirtballs so much better than anyone that it even works on grass.

Lets wait for the hardcourt season. If Nadal should make the finals of Us Open, and I'm full expecting Fed in there again, then there will be no more questions left unanswered. (unless of course "they" have slowed down the US Open as well?) :p

Nadal is now officially the world #1 natural surface player. Federer is the world #1 synthetic surface player.

Yeah...Nadal is the best grass player EVER!!!!!!!!!!ROTFL

Nadal's sets before the injury 6-4, 6-2
Fed's sets before the injury 7-6, 7-6

Fed king of grass? LMAO! A little rest and your boy would have been gone. Didn't you see how scared he was? Didn't get any bravado until after the injury timeout. Again, king of grass? Roflmao!

And he was fresh too. Wooooo. I can't stop laughing!

How so, may i ask? Federer reached the finals of the french, while nadal reached the finals of the wimbledon. Fed beat nadal on clay, but nadal is yet to beat fed on grass... so, looks like Fed is still the #1 natural surface player

More quicker and less bounce and this doesnt go beyond 4 sets.Nadal clearly used the conditions to his favor yesterday.

Rafa has made a huge statement. Everytime Nadal comes on court the commentators will talk about how great he played in the Wimbledon Finals. This will be talked about for years.
I think also when Roger plays, the Nadal/Federer match will also be talked about a lot.
Commentators love to talk about this stuff.

I know Nadal lost but coming in second was a huge win for him.

Well, it is true that the new type of grass installed is designed to slower the game. Also, in that equation you have to consider that the cans of balls are opened weeks before the tournament to slower the game. Those conditions favors Nadal's game. But, I think that in faster conditions Nadal could succeed as well, especially against Fed. First of all, today's players return the serve better than most of the players of the 90's, and Nadal is one of them. So faster serves does not necessarily means less returns, at least against some players. Do you remember the Wimbledon Final in 2002, when the grass was faster? That final was between two pure baseliners (Hewitt v. Nalbandian) with a regular servespeed and groundstroke’s. And IMO Nadal is as quick as Hewitt but hit the ball way harder than him. Let's not take two Wimbledon finals in a row so lightly.
