I mean, it's obvious that Med is shellshocked by Djokovic and lost all of his appetite. Maybe he wanted to make a statement with win but in return he was almost humiliated.

Didn't Med say exactly the opposite in 2019? Pretty sure he did.

Well, this isn't surprising. In 2019 Nadal indeed played better against young players than Federer and Djokovic. But in the last few months everything changed. Nadal is on a real decline.

Tbf any knowledgable player, analyst, expert, fan etc knows Djokovic is a better tennis player than Nadal. He’s won every big title twice (except RG), held 4 slams/WTF/6masters, holds or tied both number 1 records, dominated both rivals h2h.

Nadal is better on clay that’s it. He’s more accomplished at USO but it’s a very small sample size.

What’s really embarrassing here is how the next gen keep on finding excuses defeat after defeat from the Big3. When loosing to Fed, he’s the goat, when loosing to Novak, he’s the toughest when loosing to Nadal, he’s the greatest.
Come on (not so) young men, grow a pair of Dunlop fort and train/play better !

But, reasons you numbered are truthful, they are 3 best players ever...

I see where this guy is coming from, its basically two reasons. The first being it is recent bias, he got to face Djokovic playing some deadly tennis, and the other is that heading into this match he was on his best ever run, which included 20 straight wins, winning the biggest title outside of the slams, getting wins over Djokovic, Nadal and Thiem in that run, and basically being called the hottest in form player in the world to then be stopped dead cold in his tracks with a very lopsided score....he didn't even win one set.

It is that feeling that IMO compelled him to make that statement, he is right about one thing, Novak didn't give him any time. I mentioned it during the match thread that at the very key time of 6-5 in the first set, Novak tactically hit the ball with less air under it, this messed up the timing that Med was getting used to, it caused him to rush a little and the heavyweight champion cashed in the chips, Med mentions that exact same thing. I knew this faster courts would help Novak, many still don't give Novak credit to just how insanely good he is on fast courts because he played them in the era of Fed, but take Fed out and this is the result more often than not.

Now having said all of that, I don't fully agree with him, he says Rafa gives him more time, which is true, but Rafa also makes him play in very uncomfortable positions and historically he has had more problems against Nadal than against Novak, I mean didn't he win 3 of the last 4 matches against Novak heading into this final?

As for some comments saying that Med should try to play Rafa on clay to know what it feels likes to be helpless...ah, the guy can't win a match against anyone at RG, it's not really much of a statement, many can make him feel helpless there.....the fact is Med is a solid HC player, was considered the best on it heading into the final by many, he believes in himself on that surface, and in the best form of his life, on his best surface, he got schooled.

Put it down as a bad day at office and move on is best he can do and win Rotterdam and hope rest of the tour did not pick up on what Djokovic did tactically!

I don't agree with his assessment. Djokovic is a great player for a variety of reasons, but he most certainly doesn't take away your time to think.

Obviously he made the comment just after he lost on a very fast court where taking time away is the key to dominating. If he plays Nadal on clay in a couple of months where taking time away is not an option on slow clay and Nadal’s high-bouncing topspin will be the dominating factor, he will sing a different tune. I guess he doesn’t have the game to beat Novak or Federer on fast hard courts/grass like at AO/W or Nadal on slow clay and he is at his best on slow-medium hard courts. Then, he can still remain consistent with his big loopy swing unlike on fast courts and his lack of topspin is not as much of a disadvantage as it is on slow clay. His best chance to win a Slam might be at the US Open where either Nadal nor Djokovic are dominating favorites anymore like they are at the other three Slams.

He might beat Nadal and Djokovic in Bestof3 anywhere, but Bestof5 and Slam motivation is a whole different ballgame when you play Nadal and Djokovic.

Everyone talk about Medvedev being too bad on clay, but he did beat Djokovic on that surface. So I don't think current old Nadal would be a lock against him.
