I don't think it has necessarily improved tremendously since his injury, I think it always gets better after he gets away from Mallorca for a few weeks/months. He probably seldom uses it when he's at home and it gets a little rusty but once he's thrust back into the media glare and constant interviews and the locker room where he needs to speak it most of the time, his ease and fluidity comes back.

During rehab for his severe injury, he practised with his Rosetta Stone CD while propped up in bed.

Sure and although there are plenty of English speaking people on Mallorca...I'm sure he isn't mingling with the tourists as much as his own posse. But it has gotten tremendously better since he began not necessarily since the injury. And thank god he will never lose that fantastic accent that makes him so especially Spanish. He has certainly come a long way. But rest assured if your visiting Mallorca there are enough Europeans who have high command of the English language.

No, that's not fluent. He does not have a wide vocabulary in English, and struggles with some basic stuff. I'm not picking on him about this by telling it like it is. Even he would admit that his English is poor, and that he struggles with it a lot.

Compare it now to even 2008 and there is a massive difference, I wouldn't necessarily call him fluent but he has a good understanding of the language now and his phrases flow a lot better.

Glad you finally see the light. Its been well known in the National Spelling Bee circuit that synthetic steroids are rampant. They increase word retention and memory as well as expand intellect.

He disguises his healthy knee with humongous tape, he disguises his hard court prowess by complaining about it, he disguises his superiority by claiming himself as the least favourite to win anything, he disguises his erratic English by speaking it very very very fast, no?

In his IW victory speech, Rafa's English virtually sounded so fluent because he spoke it very fast so that his erratic English sounded fluently fast.

It would be a tremendous achievement for Rafa if :

1. He can use words other than "fantastic" in every victory speech.
2. He can say "When the earthquake ceased" instead of "I finish the earthquake"
3. He can say "Firstly, I'd like to say..." instead of "I can just say..."
4. He curses in English and gets illegal coaching in English as well.:twisted:

"I finish the earthquake and my legs were like this" is an example of Rafa's inadequate command of English.

"The bloody earthquake's gone 'n me legs were feckin' wobbling" is way much better.

For Toni's sake, Rafa couldn't even understand when someone said a word as simple as "Cow" and somebody had to translate it for him.

Because "cow" is a word you'd hear so often in s tennis context you mean?. You'd hear it all over when playing, practising, being in the locker room...
And I'm not even sure he didn't know the word, maybe he was surprised someone had been given a cow, and the interviewer thought he didn't know the word.
