Nadal is past his clay prime and could lose at Roland Garros 2014

It really annoys me when people on here say how awful Nadal played in last year's MC final against Djokovic. Maybe, just maybe, Novak played a great match and should be given full credit for it but no it always has to come back to Nadal doesn't it? If there's one thing I did agree with Chico on it's that Djokovic doesn't get enough respect from certain posters on this forum. Talk about frustrating..........

You're not alone. They do it to Federer and other players that have beaten him. And most recently Wawrinka was getting little(if any) credit for beating him at the AO. Nadal fans are good at frustrating other people.

Oh please, Nadal fans regularly give far more credit to opponents than Federer fans or for that matter Djokovic fans would in a million years. Federer loses and it is mono, bad matchup, sore bad, snot rocket attacks, too old (if he is over 25), too young (if he is under 23), unlucky. Djokovic fans continue to delude themselves that Djokovic's best > Nadal's best on clay even after the last 3 years peak Djokovic winning 0 French Opens and 3 combined Masters/French Opens to way past his clay prime Nadal's 3 and 8, and insist anytime he loses to or even wins but not easily (eg- 2012 Australian Open final) against Nadal on hard courts he automaticaly wasnt playing his best, no matter what. Most Nadal fans, except a couple trolls, have given Wawrinka full credit for his Australian Open title, and in fact probably more than Djokovic fans gave after on fire Djokovic still lost to Wawrinka in the quarters (yet I am sure Djokoturds still insisted he was off his game, lol)

Only a blind man like yourself and that other moron I was responding to would deny that on the whole Nadal of the last 3 years is far below his previous clay best overall. That doesnt mean he wont keep winning RG though, he will, and when Novak has his own clay decline (soon most likely, while Nadal has already had his so will probably stay around this much diminished level for several more years anyway) he will be back to winning it even easier like before.

Nadal brought some of his best clay court tennis in 2012. That was only 2 years ago. I still remember people were upset that Nadal would never be the same on clay after 2011. And, guess what? He brought the brilliance right back the following year. I wouldn't be surprised if he cleaned up everyone again this year. His form tends to fluctuate and this was even true in his best year. As evidenced by his less than brilliant performances against Hewitt, Mathieu, and Ljubicic in 2006. That said, if his form is sloppy again this year, I would say he probaby has passed his prime. However, I still believe that he can play his best tennis on clay when he needs. He kicked into overdrive the moment against Djokovic in the 5th set last year. Intense performance with some of the biggest groundstrokes I have ever seen Nadal hit.

Of course he could lose in RG, he nearly did so last year.

Nadal fans need to have realistic expectations, Nadal is turning 28 this year and has been winning RG(with the lone exception of 2009)consistently since he was 19. That's a really long period of time.He already has 8 under his belt, it's gonna be really hard to keep going, the guy isn't a spring chicken any more and everything ends at one point.

Who would have thought that he would ever be dethroned in MC? But he has.

As good as Rafa is on clay historically, he can't keep going forever.

Agreed, i mean he almost won the first set 6-0, he should have, he was leading 5-0, if your about the bagel Nadal at Monte Carlo (a tournament he has owned for 8 straight years) then your simply playing some damn good tennis

The title should simply be ''Nadal could lose at Roland Garros this year'' someone past their prime doesn't win 5 masters titles in a single year nor does he win 2 grand slam titles, i know you said he was past his clay prime, i don't think he is, and even if he possibly is, he's still a lock to win all big clay tournaments anyhow

nadal is past his clay prime and entered his hardcourt prime......that is the truth......winning titles shouldn't necessarily mean that he is in his prime......2012 was his last incredible show on clay......you could see the level he was at on clay that year......that level could not be witnessed last year and most likely won't be witnessed again......

going forward he will be better on hardcourts than on clay......he had 9 years of prime on clay, more than anybody in history on any surface.......

Well, Nadal will probably still end up being favourite for the title but I do think he'll have a harder time of it this year... just a feeling.

he is done on clay......trust me......he is going down at more than one clay event this year......

I will believe it when I see it, so far, no let downs yet, so will see this year but I think even if he falters at some of the clay Masters leading up to RG, he'll still bag the damn thing barring injuries OR someone tossing him constant 163 mph serves to his backhand.:-|

It's gone from saying Nadal is past his clay prime and could lose to, Nadal is done on clay.

Stop trolling, son. No need to lower your expectations and have doomsday predictions for your boi.
