Nadal is the only one to break the slam record and extend it at the very next slam.

Sampras, Federer and Djokovic all lost in the final of the very next slam after breaking the slam record

Sampras broke the record W 2000, lost USO 2000 final
Federer broke the record W 2009, lost USO 2009 final
Djokovic broke the record RG 2023, lost W 2023 final

Nadal is the exception to the rule

Nadal broke the record AO 2022, extended the slam record RG 2022.

This unique achievement will likely stand for a VERY LONG time, possibly forever.

Nice observation

Nice little thing, but doesn't mean much. Curiously, that was the first time since 2010 that Nadal won at least 2 consecutive slam events.

Ackshually, Roy Emerson broke Tilden's slam record when he won his 11th major at the 1967 Australian Championships. He then extended the record immediately by winning the 1967 French Championships.

8-B:p:cool:

True.

I should have made it clear that since the slam record became the thing that everyone chased for GOAThood, which really only started when Sampras began the chase. But you are right with that.

This is really just an incidental occurrence. If the tournament after Nadal broke the record was the French Open as it turned out to be, then it was highly likely Nadal would win that tournament because he won it 14 times in 17 appearances.

And Sampras is the only man in the OE to retire with it.

Let's see if Rafa can match that record.

Federer had the slam record for 10+ years, Djokovic will likely have it until Carlos breaks it. RAFA had it for all of 5 minutes.
Roger won it in silly conditions against friends like Lleyton, Marat and Andy(literally). Rafa actually beat Roger over and over and over again to cement himself as the greater of the two and Nole beat them both to become the greatest. The biggest of the big 3 if you will.

Historians are already reassessing the Maestro's legacy, and in no small part due to the dearth of talent during his reign which presented conditions not too dissimilar to pre-Open Era slam events.

Atleast there is no ambiguity about Slam record in mens tennis. Djokovic leading with 23, Nadal has a tiny hope next year.

In womens tennis, there's so much confusion. Courts 24 majors.
Serena doesn't recognize courts record. Yet she chases it like crazy after reaching 23 slams.
Graf was at 22 slams aged 29 and retired. If she just continued, she would have reached there. She wasn't caring about 24 and she knew in her heart what a big asterisk her record would be had she crossed 24

make nothing of it. Winning two consecutive slams is hardly a unique achievement. That they happened to occur as the slam record was being extended is merely a coincidence that doesn't amplify the level of achievement
Yeah, some "achievements" are rare only because of statistics, not because they're particularly difficult. It's like valuing four-leaf clovers lol.

He's also the only one out of the big 3 who didn't manage to break the record right after tying it.

Federer tied the record at RG 2009, broke at W 2009
Djokovic tied the record at AO 2023, broke at RG 2023

Yeah, Djokovic tied the record at W 2021 and failed miserable at USO 2021 F. Factually inaccurate.

Well Djokovic tied it at Wimbledon 2021 first when it was 20 apiece but couldn’t break it at UO 21 so your claim is incorrect

VB back at it again. Following that logic we may say that Nadal failed to win his 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. slam title because at one point he did. Or that he didn't manage to win RG SF. Doesn't sound accurate or correct? Because it's not.

It's amazing how Djokovic's fans can discredit even the unique achievement of Rafa. But when Djokovic has some crap statistics, there is huge excitement and praise

it has helped that he got to do it at his pet slam! no one else did. and it helped that he broke the record at his worst slam that was asterisked.
