Nadal is unplayable at the moment.

Far from reality. He was unplayable last year. This time more and more cracks getting visible in his game. 2011-13 Djokovic would Beat this Nadal.

Did you watch last year ? When everyone claimed nadal was his worst version ever , and the conditions meant he wasn't winning RG?

His form is actually better this year at this point.

No, thanks. I celebrate after winning, not before. I wish others would do that.
We also wish you to be more positive, faithful on Rafa. I was nervous through the match. Most of the time i don't celebrate before winning(and many people too) never before starting.
Being doubthful is good but you should have more confident on him. Atleast just not to say like he has no chance.

Rubbish. He gave windows of opportunity to Gasquet, Sinner and Schwartzman, and between the three of them Diego took advantage to the tune of a set. The question is will he raise his level, plug up those gifts he's offering up just as he did in last years final, or will a player who you'd imagine would be mentally far more able to pounce on those chances take major advantage of them?

Note that this thread was made by a big Djokovic fanboy. It's purpose is obvious. When Djokovic beats Nadal in the semifinal he will claim that was peak Nadal.

It was a good call at the time. Novak hadn't beaten Rafa on clay since Obama was president.

Good for Novak, but it's hardly the end of the world for Rafa, who never needs to win another match at Roland Garros to have unprecedented dominance at a single slam. And Novak needs to beat Tsitsipas in the final, or it will end up being a hollow victory against a post-prime Nadal in an RG semi. Good luck to Novak, but I can see Tsitsipas taking the title. Should be an interesting contest.

No hollow victory. Even if he loses on Sunday he stopped Nadal. What could have been a 3 slam difference will be no more than two.

and clay is Novak´s worst surface. He is the favorite the rest of the season. And remains number 1. It was an incredible victory.

Yeah, I was just teasing. It was really a great match though. Unfortunately I feel like Nadal's movement has really been taken advantage of in the last few slams, by Tsitsipas and now Djokovic. He really needs to finish points off faster (which he is kind of already trying to do with the serve) and not rely on his stamina (previously unprecedented but not declined) to win matches at slams. He's getting tired after 2.5 hours at slams.

Jesus I can't keep up with the Nadal fans trying to reverse jinx the win and then Djokovic fans trying to counter the reverse jinx with their own reverse jinx which is then returned back by Nadal fans in a double reverse jinx 360 spin off the roof with a Mallorcan Moonball only to be returned by Djokovic fans with a 360 gluten free tweener reverse jinx

Who will win this battle of the titans?

It's like watching a prime Murrayvic match with these long rallies

The 360 gluten free tweener was just too much to overcome.

How could it be hollow, when he prevented Rafa from #21? If Rafa had beaten Novak, he no doubt would be a prohibitive favorite in the finals over Tsisipas! Djokovic could expose Nadal on clay, but how do you know if anyone else could?

For Djokovic and his team, the worst thing that could happen at RG this year was he lost to a player (like Tsisipas or Zverev) in the semi, and that player went on and lost to Nadal in the final, giving Nadal #21. That was why Ivanisevic said Djokovic wanted to be in the same half as Nadal.

So the most important part of the mission was accomplished, irrespective of Sunday's final!

exactly. and his serve also declined. however he is still one of the top favourites at every slam, and top favourite at next year french open.

I know this is a jinx thread. But....

....Diego woke up God Mode Rafa by winning that set. The last 6-0 Bagel set by Nadal was virtually flawless. If he goes into the semi-finals with the form and mood of today's final set, it will be an ugly outcome for whomever his opponent is.

I want Djokovic in the semis to be honest. Time to even up the overall H2H and make it 11-6 at Grand Slams.
This post is up there with the Real Slam post as a legendary TTW car wreck.

There’s not a lot of positive ways to spin this. You’re right that winning another RG wouldn’t help Rafa much but the fact that he couldn’t hold his personal slam doesn’t bode well for him winning anywhere else in the future

Are you OK? You disappeared? Still obsessed with the slam h2h? ;) ;)

Diego is a warrior who can give anyone fits on his day. Second best claycourter atm imo. Rafa losing a set to him is indicative of this and nothing more imo

Had Federer lost a set to Diego, you’d be posting “Washed up old man losing sets to a midget.”

Cracks in the armor were there all clay season

If you knew anything about me, you'd know I'd never call Diego a midget as I'm not a groupie who flocks to the player who happens to be winning the most while duking on everyone else. Stop projecting.

He's actually serving better, though. He's getting a lot more free points with it, even against returners like Djokovic. He just doesn't have the movement to track down the returns to consistently do his serve+1 routine.

Being terrified of giving opinions that could be wrong is no way to live life

That is how almost every poster here operates though. Even those who offer ""predictions"" typically either favor the most likely outcome or heavily qualify those predictions.

I mean, I saw people here earlier this week repeatedly boasting that they had "predicted" a Nadal-Tsitsipas Final when it looked on course, which was obviously the most popular pick prior to the tournament. But they were very proud of their "prediction" nonetheless

But that's just how it goes. Some people really value their reputation here and are more inclined to protect it (in their mind) than to ever say anything meaningful or bold that might God forbid turn out wrong and be bumped at a later point. Who knows if they have any actual opinions or insight to offer?
