Nadal labels Murray withdrawal timing 'strange'

Got to applaud Nadal's honesty here. I bet a lot people thought it was strange but didn't say a word. Where's Fed in all of this? He may not be an expert on being injured but surely knows a thing or two about better PR.

Did the ask him in the presser and he refused to answer? Most times people scream scandal on this forum because of what a player said, is based on an answer (to a question) they have to come up with in 2 seconds! Give me and them a break

Well, Fed can take a lead and tweet about it or post on FB. He/his team knows how to use social media? It's definitely strange he is silent about a strange behavior from a top pro.

Nadal is the one of the worlds leading expert on being injured and thus, the protocol for when to withdraw from a tournament due to injury

If he says it's strange, then it's strange

He isn't called Doctor Rafael Nadal for nothing no? He never take nothing to be back quicker no? No? Yes? Yes, No?

In this particular case, I believe that certain physical developments led Murray to the simple conclusion that he wouldn't be fit enough to win the tournament which was his sole reason for entering. The timing of it was indeed unfortunate but nothing more than that.

It's difficult to believe that Andy didn't know Friday he wasn't fit enough to win the tournament. Hell, I think he knew before flying to New York that he wasn't fit enough to win the tournament, and likely not fit enough to even play.

But it is what it is, and IMO no harm done. We have a lopsided draw, but that makes the tournament more intriguing.

Come on, that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Nadal is the king of making stupid, hypocritical statements. I don't know whether he is that unaware, stupid or arrogant or he thinks the rules don't apply to him - everything he says points to this.

When he does it (injuries, withdrawals, MTOs, whining when he cheats the clock, calling out umpires, illegal coaching) - its all ok.
When someone else does it, he's quick to say its not ok.

All he does is whine and complain and all his fans do is defend him. I can guarantee if the surface wasn't slow as molasses he'd complain about that too like he has in the past, he thinks hard courts should be banned.

I have two theories about this.
1) Murray wants to win the best US Open final(2012) award
in the decade of 2011-2020. If Roger and Rafa make the final and play a breathtaking one, his award is gone.

2) He simply want to screw the US Open organizers. Two of the biggest stars in one section of the draw. And the other section has who Zverev. Organizers would have e tough time scheduling the matches. Also it ensures Roger and Rafa Dont get night matches consecutive ly.

Ok. One more, the most logical one
One of Roger and Rafa could get maximum 720 points, the semi points. If they were opposite sides of the a draw, the final pointsv are 1200 which both can possibly get, one 2000 one 1200. 480 ranking points is big in ATP which makes a difference maybe in next year when Murray gains points

How about a 4th option: On Saturday morning Murray felt something give in his hip that he hadn't quite felt in the days he had been practicing up to that time and knew for certain from that point that he wouldn't be able to play 7 best of 5 matches in the next 2 weeks so he withdrew. Or is that far too fantastic and outlandish to consider compared to your other much more 'realistic' options?

Murray wanted Fedal to tire themselves playing each other out just in case he played and somehow push his way to the finals

Hmmm...the big flaw in that theory is that Murray withdrew and I don't think they let you back in once you have done that. Otherwise, good point!

Chill Mainad, i guess everyone is having a bit fun here. Started by the comments of Mr. Rafael Nadal

Are you sure? Now that Zverev and Tsonga are both gone I think Andy is totally justified in applying for the rarely used Reinstatement Into a Grandslam Greatly Eviscerated Draw (RIGGED). I think he'll get it! Just slot him in Tsonga's spot and disqualify Shapovalov for that umpire thing he once did.

Now THAT Sounds like a plan! ;)

Your last theory is the most likely one. As I said earlier, Murray is now irrelevant as far as draws go unless he comes back before the end of the season and defends all his points.

I love Nadal's optimism. He so woulda made it to the final, but now he's gotta lose in the semi to Fed.

Murray woulda gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for Nadal recognizing douchemove-271 from his playbook.

In a way you can understand his frustration. Even if he'd lost in the final, he would've become only the third player in the Open Era after Federer and Djokovic to reach at least 4 finals at all 4 majors. Now he'll probably have to wait another year, unless a miracle occurs and someone does his dirty work by taking Federer out of the equation beforehand.

When Murray withdrew last Saturday he said he would announce his plans for the rest of the seasons in the following few days. It's now Friday and nothing from him.

No. Rafa did not say no one should withdraw after the draw. Rafa must have retired couple of days after whilst still trying his best to see if he could play but Murray retired on the morning after the draw so it appears that he had no intentions of playing in the first place.

See? The obsessive and maniac Nadal fan that replied everyone on the thread conveniently missed this to answer.

Aha. You think he has nothing better to do? Which top pro is on twitter constantly commenting on what's going on in the tennis circus? Can you name one?

...fail better!
