Nadal lost out to Federer in the ATP Fans' Favorite Award.

Federer edged Nadal in a fans-voted category which he has always held in high esteem, the ATPWorldTour.com Fans' Favourite presented by RICOH (Singles). The Swiss won the award for a record eighth consecutive year, but it was not without a fight. Federer emerged a winner with 47 per cent of the vote ahead of Nadal, who attracted 42 per cent of votes.

But IMO, Nadal is still goat.:D

That is quite close! I should have voted more =D I suspect 5% of the difference is all federerbestclass, staying up all day/night casting votes.

That's a close poll. It's not often you get 2 players so close in a poll like this in any sport. Rare that you have 2 GOAT-contenders in the same era too. I wonder what Agassi and Sampras got in that poll int he 90s. Agassi was super-popular, but Sampras was winning everything, so it may have been a close poll for them too.

Nadal is closing the gap and will win this next year. I fear for the heart of some Federer fans.

It would certainly break some hearts....But despite Nadal's best ever season winning 3 slams, still lost to the 1 slam wonder that is Roger Federer, in the heart of fans?

Hilarious that Fedal got 89% of all the votes. They're so selfish, hogging all da love. Don't worry Murray, I voted for you.

I think its more to do with Federer's fans being keener to make up for Federer's poor year. I mean if your favorite player wasn't winning slams for many months you'd be keener to get involved in a poll like this, as its his only chance of winning anything. I didn't even know the poll existed. Plus I've always considered Federer's fanbase to be a bit crazier than any other fanbase, except for the Kobe Bryant fan base, that fanbase is full of criminals. So I just think the Federer fanbase is more avid and obsessed by nature. I've seen Federer fans cry during an argument about Fedal more than once.

Nah...I think Nadal fans just aren't old enough to vote yet.

Damn didn't think of that. Seems like Fedal like hogging stuff in general. Majors, Masters(this year they were generous with the masters titles), and of course the top 2 spots.

This is news?

Federer has a bigger fanbase than Nadal so unless a lot of them didn't have access to the internet, I don't see how Rafa could have won.

Sure but to be fair a good deal of Fed fans get info about the ATP awards on RF.com which was changed around the time the voting was opened.Since most couldn't even access the site they had no way of knowing the awards were to be handed out this year itself and that the voting was open.

Guys just keep Changing the email to whatever you like
they are not confirming the email so type anything + @gmail.com

it will work.....so Vote as many times as you can

The info about the voting was posted on the front page. Even though the forum wasn't working, they could still access the site.
The ATP also promoted Roger's new website. They didn't do the same when Rafa opened his new website.
They've also made a lot of promo to Roger's visit to Ethiopia. Did you see anything about Nadal's school and his trip to India on the ATP website? Nothing.

Roger gets a lot of promotion from the ATP, so Federer fans shouldn't complain and much less try to imply that the ATP is doing some kind of evil job of shoving Rafa down our throats.

It was but it was done a few days after the award was announced ,one of the reasons being that a vast majority of posters couldn't access the forum at all..And believe me I personally still had a world of trouble accessing that site for quite a few days.Either we got error messages or we got a "too many users" online message even though there were probably hardly any.

Don't worry, federerbestclass made up for those that were "unaware".

It scares me to imagine that some fans would be able to vote more than 1000 times. It's insane. The ATP should change the rule: one man, one vote.

But their website gets more hits this way, no?

If I'm not mistaken it's not about the rule, people vote using different e-mail addresses; i.e. I can vote for Federer from using one email and I can vote for Rafa using another email.

In any case good for Federer and I do think this means something (8th year in a row is quite something anyway), even though there are people who can go overboard with voting.

This proves once again Fed >>>>> Nadal
It proves zip since anyone can invent any account and vote as many times as they like. The only thing it proves is which computer geeks have time enough to waste to spend millions of hours voting compulsively.
We all know Rafa has millions of fans and triggers excitement wherever he goes. If they ever make it a "one man one vote" process, which would be the only fair and accurate way to proceed, then it will start meaning something.
As it is, it's worthless.

How do you know Rafa has millions of fans? Maybe it's one fan with a million accounts.

Ha ha good one. (I didn't mean from the internet but from the way he gets mobbed at tournaments, maybe 1 ubiquitous fan also:)?)
Mandy: the Edberg one is determined by players, the fans award should be just as reliable with fans voting instead, except they don't care about controlling the manner of the vote, so 1 person can vote as many times as they want, which pretty much invalidates the process.
