Make him play Medvedev once, Thiem three times and Djokovic three times for the title, doesn't make a difference.

Medvedev hasn't made it out of 1st round in 4 outings.

But what if, and just humour me here he got the following draw starting 3rd round:

4R: Schwartzman
QF: Tsitsipas
SF: Djokovic
F: Thiem

In a weird way for him, it's good for the reasons you listed...guaranteed to not play both Thiem and Djokovic back to back.
