Soderling v Llodra was ze best. So exciting, and you can't beat the contrast in styles.

Also, talk about an "end of season" heavy list ... =/

Honorable mention:
Tsonga d. Almagro AO
Soderling d. Berdych FO
Hewitt d. Federer Halle
Soderling d. Ferrer Wimbledon
Verdasco d. Ferrer USO

Except for the obligatory nod to the marathon, all of them happened after September!!

I think it tells more about how bad this year was for great matches. Djokovic-Federer really wasn't all that high quality until the end. Whereas last year there seemed to be great matches in every single slam.

Blake-Delpo AO also merits an honorable mention.

by the way check out the full stats of the marathon match, its pretty impressive how + both players are in every category

Isner serve 361 of 491 = 74%, only 10 double faults, only 52 errors (Fed hit 66 in his USO semi defeat), 81% on first serve, 63% on second, 67% (97 of 144) at net....unreal stuff

Soderling-Llodra was my favorite. Isner-Mahut was great for all its records, but the quality of tennis wasn't stellar, IMHO.

I was at the Verdasco Ferrer match, atleast sets 1-3, than we left to go watch Rafa.

Best all year was Soderling/Llodra

Match of the year for me was Henin vs. Dementieva at the AO. It was the best quality of tennis I could possibly ask for. Brilliant match.

Verdasco ferrer was the best.

Nadal ~ verdasco Monte Carlo was excellent too.

How can a match where one player wins just 1 game can be considered even good? Yeah, Nadal played great, but it didn't make the match competitive. One player performance doesn't make for a good match.

Nadal - Verdasco, Monte Carlo. Kept me on my toes, glued to the screen despite wanting to pee badly - such was the epicness of the Mediterranean thriller to unfold in front of millions.

To be honest, the only match I truly enjoyed from this years WTF was Nadal-Murray match.

As for the rest of the list, I agree, this year was not that high quality.

The Stockholm final of Federer v Mayer was very good for entertaining tennis, albeit not drama :p

Did anyone watch Murray v Gasquet at the FO? Quality?

It was awesome until Gasquet clearly ran out of gas. Still leagues better than Monfil v Federer.

I don't agree with the Isner/Mahut match. Granted the match was epic due to its length, it only really went on so long since they were both so bad at return of serve.

Federer Soderling FO deserves to be up there. Way more entertaining than most of those matches!

Falla/Federer was the most unreal nailbiter of the year, no doubt.

Federer/Fish was very high quality too IMO.

Henin/Dmentieva was the best women's match (quality)along with Serena/Azarenka (drama).

i'd say it's close between murray-nadal and llodra-sod. I'd probably go for murray-rafa since I was at that match and it was the first ever live tennis match i've seen :)

too much emphasis on the ending in this list, not so much on the quality.

murray nadal wasn't even close to being the best match of the year

fed monfils match sucked quality wise, was pretty boring actually for most part, only there was some drama at the end

almagro tsonga and blake delpo at the AO deserve to be right up there. So do nadal-davy @ doha and nadal-murray at the AO .. Oh and yeah, add ferrer verdasco at the USO and fed-soderling at the FO too

Solid list, though Davydenko's crazy comeback win over Nadal at Doha probably deserved a top 5 place. I figured the top 3 were a lock, just wasn't sure what order the ATP would put them. None of this years top 5 matches tops 2009's(Nadal vs Verdasco and Roddick vs Fed) and 2008's(Fed vs Nadal) best stuff.

No way Fed-Nole can be 2nd best match of the year. First set Nole choked, then Fed crumbled in the second then another choke from Nole in the 3rd and another crumbling from Fed in the 4th, and finally it was Fed who choked in the 5th.
