Seeing on Twitter Rafa will not play Cincy
I read on the contrary that he WILL play. Is there any official word? By when does he need to tell the organizers?

I really hope he doesn't play. He is as prepared as he needs to be for the Open. It is essential he doesn't overplay - as he retired with injury there last year and he's had difficulty playing multiple tournaments on hardcourts.

Tournament directors around the world just love the guy. Not surprisingly. ;)

"And that’s a good thing, since, above and beyond his 18 Grand Slam titles, his personality is what makes him so unique and such a welcome guest at Rogers Cup year after year.

“I’d say he’s maybe the nicest player on the Tour,” affirmed Eugène Lapierre. “And he’s like that everywhere he goes, not just in Montréal. He’s aware of the people around him, which can’t be said of everyone. Most tennis players are nice, but Nadal is different. How many players do you know who applaud their opponent when he leaves the court? He always says hello; he’ll hold the door for you. He was given a good upbringing and it shows.”

In 14 years, he has gained wisdom and experience but still remains Spain’s Raging Bull. “Back when he was 18 or 19, his energy was just so impressive,” explained Lapierre. “He ran down every ball. His firepower was just wow! He has this great quality—and every player will tell you—he’ll never give up a point. He’s just as intense on every ball. He may be down 5-0, 40-0 but he’s never out. He’ll always want to win every one. It’s exhausting for his opponents, and it’s his trademark. When you play against him, you know you have a mountain to climb.”"

I haven't seen anything concrete. I don't think he will play though. Only reason he might play is he only had to play 4 matches to win this title and only one went to 3 sets.

Isn't that the nicest compliment possible. It's amazing how universally acknowledged Nadal is off court as someone who is good and does the right thing.

Thanks for posting.

Sad news, but it’s probably for the better.
Rafa said already at the end of July: "Depending on what happens in Montreal, I will decide about the Cincinnati Masters (Translated from Spanish by Google).

I could see Rafa being a good hands on boss. I wonder what his role at his academy will be when he retires. Don't see him coaching, but definitely very involved in the Academy as a CEO type one day.

I doubt Rafa wants to be the CEO of his academy. Currently, Rafa is the chairman of the board of directors of the academy and the CEO's boss. The director-general (aka CEO) of the academy & sports centre is Javier Perelló Gómez.

Does he ever give hands on instructions/lessons during camps or anything. Or is he primarily just working with the board?

Rafa & Maria Francisca

Spain's media announces that Rafa & Maria Francisca (aka Xisca) are getting married on October 19 in Mallorca.

Here:

The article below is based on the Spanish-language article I posted above.

Majorca Daily Bulletin, 2019-08-14:
¤¤ Rafa Nadal's wedding venue and date announced.

Finally we have a date. Majorca's tennis ace Rafa Nadal and Xisca Perelló will marry on October 19 in Puerto Pollensa. This was revealed by our sister newspaper Ultima Hora. The ceremony will be held at noon on a property near La Fortalesa, the Majorcan estate made famous by the BBC TV series The Night Manager. Real Madrid star Gareth Bale married at La Fortalesa earlier this year. The reception takes place at the famous estate in Pollensa which is owned by a British banker.

Rafa Nadal and Xisca Perelló's wedding will take place with a high level of security.
It is expected that this will be one of the biggest social events of this year, with well-known faces from the world of sport - the presence of, among others, tennis players Feliciano López and Fernando Verdasco. King Juan Carlos, with whom Nadal has an excellent relationship and whom we have seen this summer with the tennis player and his fiancée, will also attend. ¤¤

Anyone know where Rafa is? Has he returned back to Mallorca? Last year he went to the Bahamas this week if I recall correctly.

No reason to mess with jetlag 2 times. He is somewhere in that time zone and will practice for US Open soon maybe this Monday like every year a week before start of the tournament.

Thanks for posting the wedding info, @octobrina10! I hope they get right to work on some little Rafa's/Rafaella's!:love:
It is usually never recommended to have children right away after marriage. At least a few years adjustment period is recommended.
Not to mention, Nadal has a lot of important things for now - as he chases the slam record and attempts to cement his legacy.
