Any word on when Rafa's travelling over to London for the Laver Cup? It's always one of my favourite times of the year when I can watch him play on that beautiful black court!

Award

Rafa arrived at the University of Alcalá (UAH), located in the city of Alcalá de Henares in central Spain, to receive the Camino Real award from the Franklin Institute of the UAH.
The award ceremony takes place in the auditorium of the UAH. Rafa will be presented with the award by Spain’s King Felipe VI, who has also arrived.

Federer said he wasn't sure who his doubles partner would be on Friday but it would be great if it was Rafa . It was always the case that it would be Rafa so I wonder whether they are not sure that Rafa will be at the Laver Cup or not. I haven't seen any signs of him arriving in London.

Nadal will 1000% be there in some capacity given the circumstances. It obviously depends on if he’s suffered a big injury, but if not, I’d also be surprised if he doesn’t play through a 1hr doubles match with Fed given the significance of that match. Even if it’s on a sore ab or bad foot, I think he’ll do it

Fighting for number 1 or killing yourself to win WTF might be disastrous for him in context of being fit for the next season. I still think that after winning Acapulco flying to California for IW was a mistake that resulted with a broken rib that compromised his clay season. After Acapulco he should have rested and prepare for MC. Just like right now going for a dog fight with Carlos Alcaraz over no1 can destroy his off season in which he should recharge the batteries. Especially now that he has much more important things in his life in upcoming months. Just make sure that he will be seeded inside top4 for AO (and he will be) and he is good to go.

Nadal has honestly often overplayed in his career. I don't know why outside sheer addiction to the rhythm..

As for this season, we'll let's see because I DO think it makes some sense to try Paris-WTF if the opportunity is there.

He said he strained his abs in NY? He was definitely compensating on his serve, but I didn't think he restrained his abs. :(

And what does he mean by "I'm not well"? Personally or physically?

I hope everything is going well with Maria's pregnancy and the baby and her are well.

We don’t know the details but it’s pretty clear her pregnancy hasn’t been straightforward and that causes a lot of stress and worry. We know he is a worrier by nature so he’s struggling and on top of that he has his injury issues so he will understandably feel pretty low right now. Let’s just hope all goes well and they are safely delivered of a healthy baby and he can focus on home and getting better.
I doubt we will see him play before the AO tbh.

Has Rafa gone home? He's not playing the singles. I was not watching every minute of the first session, but I did not see him on Europe's LC bench this morning. Fed was there. I hope all is well with his family.

I agree.

Rafa announced at his post-doubles-match press conference that he's not going to play more at this Laver Cup (post # 36,881).

Yes, I think his season is over. He’ll probably turn up at the WTF to fulfil his obligations as he’s qualified but he may not be able to train enough for it.

New Book About Rafa

Éditions Amphora in France published a new book about Rafa titled “NADAL. Ultimate Warrior" (Translated from French via Google). The book was written by Guillaume Lagnel (a French journalist/commentator for Eurosport, L'Équipe and others) and photos used in the book were taken by Corinne Dubreuil.

As far as I'm going to miss Rafa I would love to see him on court only at AO 23.
He has a lot in his mind right now, looks like Xisca's pregnancy is complicated, also abs injury. He's not ready mentally and physically to fight and win something more this year.
It was absolutely incredible season for him, 2 slams, including miracle in Melbourne and 14th RG title. Brilliant stuff.
Majors are the most important tournaments right now in terms of his legacy and they should be prioritized. He is a defending champion in Melbourne, Paris is still his place, if not injured NYC was always a great place for him, not ruling out Wimbledon. So the main focus should be directed at slams.
Hope for a good delivery for Maria and Rafa, a beautiful, healthy baby and a lot of calm for the rest of this year for the whole Nadal family. I'm sure it will fuel him to have a great 2023.
