He beat 4 top 10 payers, but got slightly lucky with zverev. That could have easily been a 5 hour or longer match in those conditions since Zverev is superfit.

And of course we always take the enthusiasm factor into account. :p

Yeah Zverev would probably have won a slam by now if he didn't have diabetes.
I wonder how many players have ever beaten FOUR top 10 players at a slam.
I know Djokovic has never done it, but Federer has.
Its probably the most difficult thing a tennis player can do at an event, and especially RG because its so physical.

Best ever run at GS was probably Wilander at RG in 1982.

From memory he beat Lendl, Gerulaitis, Jose Louis Clerc and Vilas in his last 4 matches from last 16 onwards.

I believe they were the number 2, 5, 4 and 3 seeds respectively.

It helped the best wasn’t allowed(sort of) to play. No way he was beating Borg.

For mandatory Masters 1000 tournaments, players are automatically entered by the ATP. Rafa was entered because he has a protected ranking of #9. The protected ranking shall be used for entry into the main or qualifying draw, but it cannot be used for seeding purposes, that's why Rafa's name is at the end of the entry list.

¤¤ The 2024 ATP Rulebook:
7.04.A. Main Draw - Singles
1) … For each ATP Tour Masters 1000 tournament, players with a Pepperstone ATP Rankings position that qualifies them as a direct acceptance or alternate, shall be automatically entered by ATP.¤¤

The same applies to the Miami Masters.

Yes good point. Although I believe he will be playing IW given what Moyà said about him not wanting to switch surfaces from hard to clay and back to hard again.
He is playing Doha, and then the exhibition in Vegas a few days before IW so it makes sense that he will go from Vegas to Indian Wells. If he’s healthy and playing, why wouldn’t he.

If Larry Ellison was not the owner of Indian Wells, surely Rafa would have Skipped Indian Wells on occasion and played Miami instead.
Rafa's most passionate supporters in North America are probably in Miami because of the heavy Spanish population.
Not that they are from Spain necessarily, just the language or cultural semi-connection may reduce the chance of a Miami tennis fan supporting Federer/Djokovic over Rafa.
Maybe in California 70% of tennis fans support Rafa, while in Florida about 90% of tennis fans support Rafa.

Rafa’s foundation installed a climbing wall for kids in its center in Palma, the capital of Mallorca.

The RN Foundation says on its website: “The climbing wall represents more than just entertainment. It is a space designed to offer young people a transformative experience. At the heart of this initiative is the conviction that climbing is not only a sport, but also a powerful tool for people's personal and emotional development. … Climbing thus becomes another tool in our plan to empower young people, allowing them not only to face physical challenges, but also to strengthen their minds.” (Translated from Spanish via Google.)

A couple of quotes from the RNF tweets: “The climbing wall is not only a place to climb, it is an opportunity to overcome challenges and grow emotionally! … Climbing offers physical, psychological and emotional benefits to people who practice it. (Translated from Spanish via Google.)

Masterful serve by Rafa. This is probably my favourite Rafa match on hardcourt. But it's hard to choose one.
That particular US Open might be the most memorable 2 weeks of Nadal's career, just because of his serve getting more free points than usual.
Not necessarily the best tennis he's ever played.... his level at many of his RGs may be higher than 2010 USO, and even 2013 USO may be higher (though I think 2010 USO Final was better than 2013 USO Final) but 2010 USO was the most unique because we always wonder what would Nadal be like if he had a booming serve.

UAX Rafa Nadal School of Sport

Toni Nadal participated in the event titled Olympic Experience held at UAX Rafa Nadal School of Sport on Tuesday. He talked about why hosting the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games was important for the country.

The man talking in the clip below is Juan Antonio Samaranch Salisachs, the vice president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). His father Juan Antonio Samaranch i Torelló served as the seventh President of the IOC from 1980 to 2001. Both father and son were born in Barcelona. (Juan Antonio Samaranch i Torelló was a Rafa fan. Rafa attended his funeral and was a pallbearer in 2010.)

UAX Rafa Nadal School of Sport is part of the Alfonso X el Sabio University (UAX). The school was created in 2022 with the aim of preparing students for careers in three areas of the sports industry: sport, health and business. UAX is situated about 30 km / 19 miles from Madrid.

Just watched the entire segment where Rafa speaks about his Saudi Arabia's tennis ambassador role and I am truly impressed how eloquent and logically he put forth his argument for his decision to take on this new challenge.

We in the West suffer from a collective case of moral grandstanding that has reached absurd levels. We are doing so so many things wrong, yet we feel compelled to shame other cultures.
