The Rafael Nadal Fans website published an article based on excerpts from Relevo's Spanish-language article:

¤¤ Spain Has Never Had an Athlete Like Rafael Nadal, Says Feliciano López

Rafael Nadal’s farewell at the Davis Cup in Malaga is shaping up to be a truly historic event for tennis lovers. The excitement surrounding Rafa’s last appearance as a professional player is enormous, with fans and fellow athletes alike eager to witness the final chapter of his legendary career. According to Miguel Díaz, president of the Spanish Tennis Federation, the demand is so high that they could fill five football stadiums if they had the capacity. [The venue in Malaga has a capacity of 11,300 spectators.]

Speaking to Relevo [a Spanish sports website based in Madrid], Feliciano Lopez [the Davis Cup Finals tournament director] reflected on the unparalleled legacy Rafa leaves behind. For Feli, our champ is without question the greatest Spanish athlete in history—not just because of his on-court accomplishments but also for the example he has set as a person and teammate.

When Feliciano was asked if Nadal is the best Spanish sportsman in history, he was very detailed in his answer.

“My last intention is to diminish any other Spanish athlete—we’ve had so many, and many great ones at that. I really don’t think this debate should exist. And it’s not because he’s Rafa, not because he’s a tennis player, or because he’s my friend. I say it with complete sincerity. Rafa’s record simply doesn’t compare with any other athlete’s, and believe me, we’ve had some incredible ones, but that’s just how it is,” said Feli.

“Obviously, there’s the personal aspect and the legacy he leaves as a human being and a teammate. We could talk for hours about the legacy he has created, which is on par with what he has achieved on the court. We’re talking about things and levels that are different from anything else seen in Spain. He has 22 Grand Slam titles, 14 Roland Garros victories; it’s an impossible record, and it’s unlikely that any individual athlete will ever be able to win a tournament as prestigious as Roland Garros 14 times.

“He was world number one, he won Olympic medals. There has not been an athlete in Spain comparable to Rafa in sporting terms
.

“Sometimes the debate is fueled in a journalistic way, and I understand that it is nice to ask who is the best. But this debate dilutes reality a little: if we talk about sporting performances, honestly and without offending anyone, I do not think that anyone can match him. And then there is what has transcended, what has moved. He has provoked emotions and feelings in so many people. Things have happened with Rafa in this country that have not happened with any other athlete and that also contributes to it.“ ¤¤

mid-day.com, 5 Nov.2024:

¤¤ Davis Cup aiming for 'special' Nadal retirement celebration

The 22-time Grand Slam winner is part of David Ferrer's Spain squad for the finals in Malaga which begin on November 19

The Davis Cup will provide a special farewell to retiring tennis great Rafael Nadal at the Davis Cup Final 8 in November, said tournament director Feliciano Lopez on Tuesday.

The 22-time Grand Slam winner is part of David Ferrer's Spain squad for the finals in Malaga which begin on November 19. Lopez said the Davis Cup was "lucky" to host Nadal's final tournament and wants to offer the departing superstar a farewell that lives up to his glittering career.

"It's confidential of course, but we're planning to do something very special for him, we have to celebrate his career and his legacy," Lopez told reporters. "There's a lot of things that we're planning but for now I cannot share any more details with you, but we're planning something very special. We are going to try and live up to his legacy and his enormous career and I hope we're going to do something very special for him."

Lopez said many stars of tennis and other sports wanted to come to Malaga to witness the denouement of Nadal's career. "Other athletes from different sports, of course from Spain and everywhere in the world, they want to be there as well, so it's going to be very special for Rafa."

Lopez did not think the Davis Cup will be overshadowed by Nadal's retirement. The tournament director said Nadal himself was keen to make sure that was not the case in Malaga. "The Davis Cup itself is so important and I don't think this celebration is going to overshadow the competition, especially as Rafa doesn't want any of that," he explained.

Lopez said there was "no doubt" Nadal is the best Spanish athlete of all-time and considered it a "nice coincidence" he will finish his career at the Davis Cup, after a vital win in the competition back in 2004 helped launch his career. Nadal, 18 at the time, defeated Andy Roddick in a thrilling singles battle to help Spain claim the competition at the final against the United States in Seville.

Lopez said preparations for the Davis Cup had not been affected by the recent devastating flooding in the east of the country, and along with the Billie Jean King Cup and the International Tennis Federation, they have made a donation to the Spanish Red Cross.

"It's terrible and horrible to see this happening," said Lopez. "Luckily this is not affecting the preparations in Malaga. "Of course we will try to use our platform to raise awareness and we will try to raise money for everyone affected in Valencia."¤¤

I´m not sure if after Rafa´s retirement i´m going to post or read this forum, i´m really gonna miss ya friends. I love tennis but the main reason to be here was RAFA
Same. I’m playing more tennis but I’m watching much less.

I didn’t think it was going to affect me as much as it has to be honest.

We are very lucky that Alcaraz and Sinner have come along, but Rafael Nadal will cast a long shadow. The game is not quite as interesting now and may not be for a long time.

We haven’t really had a player since the 1970s who was able to bring to tennis what Rafa did. He looked so different to everyone else on the tour in playing style and personality, but he also won 22 majors and challenged a dominant ATG as a teenager and he did it with such a flair for the mercurial.

For me being Nadalist was in some way unexpected, i was a huge Agassi fan and i was thinking who´s going to be my next favorite player at that time. Federer was like the next big thing but i never conect with his "caracter" then i saw this wild boy making an awesome apparition en many tournaments in 2004 and when watching him, i saw his special aura besides his never die attitude then i thought he will be like Muster or Guga players that i used to like and follow. In 2005 i started watching every Rafa tournament and with the match against Hewitt in AUS Open that year i became a fan and started to enjoy every match because all his matches were a roller coaster of emotions for example those finals against Coria in Montecarlo and Rome and of course his first Roland Garros against Puerta. When Agassi finally retired i was not sad at all because my heart already was beating: VAMOS.
I was truly hoping that Rafa retires wining his 15th RG but the tennis Gods had other plans for him.
I´m not sure but i hope so that in a future i will find a tennis player that at least make me stay wake up all night like that incredible night in 2022 when Rafa won the AUS Open and every Rafa fan around the world cried saying VAMOS.
Rafa the tennis player will retire but Rafa the legend will be alive for ever.
Thanks Rafa for everything.

Malaga and the Costa del Sol launch a campaign to say goodbye to Nadal with the biggest 'thank you' ever written

The main piece is a 2,600 square metre canvas, visible from the motorway, which covers the front of the Málaga City Athletics Stadium and features a figure of Nadal almost 15 metres high in front of Martín Carpena himself, where the Davis Cup will be played.

There is no doubt that Rafa Nadal transcends borders. It is also clear that he is the best Spanish sportsman of all time. Therefore, and taking advantage of his end of career in the capital of the Costa del Sol, the Malaga Provincial Council and the Malaga City Council are launching a campaign to thank the tennis player Rafael Nadal for his sporting career and his human quality and for having chosen the city and the province to crown his career , with the consequent international impact and return in terms of image and tourism promotion.

Nadal is one of the main assets of the ' Spain brand ', so the two institutions, coinciding with the celebration of the Davis Cup at the José María Martín Carpena Sports Palace , intend with this action to reinforce the projection of the Málaga and Costa del Sol brands , taking advantage of the fact that global attention will be on the city and the province during the tennis tournament and that Nadal is one of the most successful and admired sportsmen in history, with hundreds of millions of followers around the world.

a canvas of 2,600 meters

The main piece of the campaign is a giant banner, 2,600 square metres in size and with a representative figure of Nadal almost 15 metres high , located at the front of the Málaga City Athletics Stadium , opposite the entrances to the Sports Palace and visible from the motorway and from the air. It is one of the largest advertising banners ever placed in Spain.
Nadal is considered the best Spanish athlete in history.

Rafa Nadal Foundation

The Nadal Educational and Tennis School (NETS) in Anantapur, India, celebrated its 14th anniversary.

Rafa inaugurated his school for underprivileged kids in October 2010. The school was then called Educational & Sports School, its current name is Nadal Educational Tennis School. The school was founded by Rafa’s foundation in cooperation with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation. V.Ferrer was a Spanish missionary, who lived in India; he died in 2009, but his wife still lives in Anantapur and is the president of his foundation.

The school has been funded by Rafa’s foundation and it has offered tennis, computer and English classes to more than 2500 children during its 14 years of existence:

On the day of the celebration, children participated in different activities to have fun. A week before the event, NETS organised a tennis tournament to mark the anniversary of the school.
The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, where all NETS students and staff gathered. At this special moment, prizes were awarded to the tournament winners and six outstanding students were recognized for their regular attendance at the summer camps, from May to October, and for their active participation in all NETS activities and events. Wow! How the hell are you supposed to play when Rafa is on the next court? I think I’d frame my first ten forehands trying to hit up next to him. What an experience for the guy. I wonder whether he knew about the practice or if it was a complete surprise? Very freaky having Nadal arrive on the next court.
I think, the guy knew Rafa would be practicing on the next court. The guy is a student at Rafa’s academy (14 y/o, was born in Tokyo, moved to Australia). Rafa’s coach Gustavo Marcaccio trains the guy. In the video you quoted, Marcaccio is on the court where Rafa plays.
