Rafa & Social Media Fans

Rafa thanked his one million Sina Weibo followers for their support. Sina Weibo is one of the biggest social media platforms in China.

From Wikipedia: ¤¤ Sina Weibo is a Chinese microblogging (weibo) website. Launched by Sina Corporation on August 14, 2009, it is one of the biggest social media platforms in China.
After the July 2009 Ürümqi riots, China shut down most domestic microblogging services. Many popular non-China-based microblogging services like Twitter, Facebook, and Plurk have since been blocked. Sina Corporation considered this to be an opportunity, and on August 14, 2009, Sina launched the tested version of Sina Weibo.
"Weibo" is the Chinese word for "microblog". ¤¤

"The top two seeds put aside the magnitude of what's at stake and had a two-hour practice on centre court, closing out their early afternoon session with competitive match play. Nadal led Djokovic 6-4, 2-2, before they moved to a tie-break that the Serbian won. "

Nice that the one full set they played, Nadal again won ;)

Rafa's full press conference:

The full transcript of Rafa's press conference:
An excerpt:
¤¤ Question. First of all, congratulations on your wedding. Just a question about how do you feel in Paris? You won of course so many times in Roland Garros but never here. How do you explain it? Is it too late in the season for you? Is it the surface? Is it bad luck?

RAFAEL NADAL:
If it's not good luck that I won 12 times in Roland Garros, it's not bad luck that I never won here. That's the real thing. I get injured a lot of times, it's true. I miss this tournament a lot of times in my career. And other times I didn't play well and other times opponents have been better than me.
Of course it's an indoor surface that in the past is the surface that I had less chances. I think I have been improving the game to be able play well. I think this year the surface is quite quick, quite fast.
But I don't know. I'm happy to be here. As everybody knows, for me it's the most important city in my tennis career, so I love to be in Paris. Always gives me good vibes.
And I think I'm doing the right steps to try to be ready for the action hopefully on Wednesday. Let's see. ¤¤

Rafa played "decent" today but damn does he ever look ordinary indoors.
I just saw the highlights from Tennis TV. Couldn't watch the whole match unfortunately so rushed to see tge highlights once I got back home.

I thought Rafa played brilliant, was moving great, was anticipating the ball wall, and hit a few fantastic DTL forehands. It were just the highlights though and they have to put in good shots in the clip so not really a great indicator.

What do you think was lacking?

Movement and penetration through the court. It's just weird how much harder he has to work even against basic noobs to win a match indoors. Mannarino was holding easy and he kinda broke himself the 2 times he lost serve. Luckily Novak struggled also

True that Rafa didn't play his 'A' game i.e he wasn't aggressive enough but credit to Mannarino, he served well and hit the ball well. I was surprised how good a server Mannarino was in his match against Ruud because I never really pay too much attention to his matches but watched his 1st round match here as the winner was going to be Rafa's 2nd round opponent.

Rafa doesn't usually play his best in 1st rounds anyway.

I watched nearly all of the match and I'm really positive for this indoor campaign season. Sometimes rankings don't matter when you look at the opponent. He was quite a tricky lefty but I think rafa handled him well.

Rafa spoke about how indoor he has to make a few changes and it looks like he has.

He didn't face a break the whole match.

I liked the way he used his slice as well. He'd slice like 5 shots in a row then rip it when the ball was short.

I see almost the opposite, very clean hitting throughout, easily good enough to win this tournament.
24 winners and 11 unforced errors, and never faced a break point :)
And his opponent was clean too, Mannarino 26 winners, 21 unforced errors and extremely aggressive.
And was nearly 6-4 6-4, but a linesman made a mistake on Rafa's setpoint at 5-4 and had to replay the point.
Its one of the cleanest matches of Rafa's year, and probably his cleanest hardcourt match of the year (or equal-best with Montreal Final, although Mannarino today played better than Medvedev Montreal).

That was sweet, but

He’s right though. You have to look at the fact that Rafa hasn’t played an official match in weeks, Mannarino is a lefty with an unorthodox game and was playing well, and lastly the court is playing very fast.

Rafa played very well, and I watched the whole match.

Ojala k tienes razon. Veremos hoy lo que esta pasando :)

El toro español va con todo!

Rafa should really have no problem
Vs Tsonga even though he’s at home and on a roll. The only thing that worries me is the rumors that Rafa is coming down with some bug/ virus (Novak also reported something similar).

I hope he can recovery as best as possible for tomorrow cause he really has a great chance to at least make the final.

Rafa's Academy has been a rip roaring success. In just three years they're going to almost double in size. With the new setup they're going to get even more pro players spending time there which should inspire the students even more. It's been such a boon for the town of Manacor too. Way to go Rafa!!!

Nadal and Tsonga will meet again at Paris Master QF exactly 10 years later:eek:. However, Nadal never won a title after defeating Tsonga :(

I wouldn't worry, Rafa's movement has been perfect, so its obviously not sapping his strength enough to be an issue.
I guess if he plays a 3hr match its possible to suffer from the virus, but just because he called for a trainer and a tablet it doesn't mean the virus is a big deal.....because its common for people to take medication for even the mildest of pains.

No problem, Tsonga has no impact on Rafa's future, so that stat is just random and with no reason :)
