Rafa played the 4th leg of the Hexagonal Circuit golf tournament today (Sunday). The event was held at the Arabella Golf Mallorca club. He was paired with his uncle Miguel Angel Nadal, a former pro football player. Rafa finished tied for 12th place among 91 golfers. He was obviously cautious, because he is still recovering from the abdominal injury (a seven millimeter tear) he suffered during the Wimbledon tournament. He said in the middle of the last week that he should be able to play tennis from the baseline without serving in one week and to serve in three to four weeks.

One more tweet confirming Rafa finished FIRST ... [just to put more perspective on post#35906... Rafa played really well and the result quoted in that post is the adjusted one, not the scratch result which reflects his performance. Not picking a fight with @octobrina10 but that post of hers needs serious editing]
@RafaelNadal and his academy team triumph in a golf tournament in Palma They shared first position in the fourth Scratch test

but the fact remains his performance was 1st in that tourney. he performed extremely well, even hitting 3 birdies

the 12th in your post is misleading as it is adjusted for handicap and does not indicate the actual performance which was tied for 1st. :)

Rafa’s academy received the Joaquin Blume Trophy at the Spanish Sport Awards 2019 as the most outstanding sports education centre at promoting sport. The 2019 awards were supposed to be handed out over two years ago, but the ceremony was postponed due to the pandemic. Joaquin Blume was a Spanish gymnast who died in a plane crash when he was just 25 years old.

The award ceremony was held at the Royal Palace of El Pardo, one of the official residences of the Spanish royal family, on Monday. Spain's King Felipe and Queen Letizia presented 13 national sports awards, 6 of which are named after members of the royal family.

Rafa’s sister Maribel (the marketing director of Rafa's sports centre/academy) attended the ceremony and received the trophy on behalf of the academy (from 3:48 to 4:00 in the clip):

Rafa’s museum will open a space dedicated to LaLiga, the men's top professional football division of the Spanish football league system. The exhibit will display the shirts of the champions, and visitors can use an interactive screen to get info about the LaLiga teams.

The exhibition is the first collaboration between Rafa’s academy and LaLiga, after signing the collaboration agreement last year. The two organizations will hold an official opening ceremony of the space in the coming days.

Rafa’s favourite football club, Real Madrid, plays in LaLiga. :)

Relaxing Time

After playing tennis in the early morning, Rafa travelled to Alcanada Golf Club situated in the north of Mallorca, where he is participating in the individual Balearic Golf Championship for professionals taking place from July 20 to 22. Rafa is an amateur golfer, but his handicap allows him to compete with professionals.

Rafa has previously participated in the tournament. In 2020, he finished tied for 6th place overall and tied for 2nd place among amateurs. In 2021, he was in 6th place after 2 days played, but he didn’t play on the 3rd day (the last) of the tournament.

Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre in Greece

Toni Nadal visited the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre at Sani Resort located less than one hour's drive from Thessaloniki, a city in Northern Greece, in the beginning of July.

The tennis centre was founded in spring 2019. It was the second of its kind after the first centre was inaugurated (by Rafa himself) in Costa Mujeres near Cancun, Mexico, in February 2019. The tennis centre at Sani Resort has 8 clay courts, on which tennis courses are available to players of all ages and levels.

In June 2021, Sani Resort won the “Best Hospitality Innovative Family Resorts” award at the Connoisseur Circle Hospitality Awards 2021.

Sebastián Yatra meets Rafa Nadal hours before his concert in Mallorca
...
Last time Rafa and Sebastian Yatra, a Colombian singer and songwriter, met was the "Los40 Music Awards" gala held in Palma (the capital of Mallorca) in November 2021. Sebastian Yatra won Best Artist and Best Video Clip awards in the international Latin category and he said in his award acceptance speech that Rafa is an inspiration to him.

Award

Rafa will receive the Camino Real award.

An excerpt from the article linked above; translated from Spanish via Google:
07/21/2022
¤¤ The Franklin-Institute - UAH awards the 5th edition of the Camino Real Award to Rafael Nadal
Tennis player Rafael Nadal will receive the Camino Real award from the Franklin Institute of the University of Alcalá [Alcalá de Henares is a city in central Spain, northeast of Madrid] in a ceremony that will be held in the near future in the Auditorium of the University of Alcalá. The Advisory Council of the Franklin Institute - UAH unanimously agreed to award the 5th edition of the Camino Real Award to Mr. Rafael Nadal Parera in its session on September 19, 2019 because "beyond the positive projection of the image of Spain in North America, which means his triumph at the 2019 US Open, as well as in previous editions of the tournament in 2010, 2013, 2017, and in other tournaments he played in North America, Rafael Nadal personifies the highest qualities of athletes: sacrifice, effort, fair play, humility in victory and greatness in the face of adversity; he is an obligatory reference for youth due to his honesty, ability to overcome, and respect for his rivals; it is also worth mentioning his personal involvement in different social actions through the Rafael Nadal Foundation...." [The award ceremony was postponed due to the pandemic.]

The first edition of the award was granted to operatic tenor Plácido Domingo, the second – to cardiologist Valentín Fuster, the third – to pro basketball player Pau Gasol and the fourth - to actor Antonio Banderas. ¤¤

The Franklin Institute-UAH website: ¤¤ The “Camino Real” Award was established in 2012, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Institute (1987), to recognize the professional work of Spaniards who, in an outstanding and exemplary manner, project and enhance the positive image of Spain in the United States.
“The Award reflects the spirit of recognizing a universal Spaniard who has built bridges of understanding between Spain and the United States of America” (Julio Cañero, director of the Franklin-UAH Institute) ¤¤ (Translated from Spanish via Google)

Antonio Banderas, who received the 4th edition of the Camino Real Award, applauds Rafa for receiving its 5th edition (the 2nd tweet) :):

Expected win for Rafa, hands down the best tennis player this year. (y)

As for Raducanu, that one is a head scratcher.

I could be wrong, as I have not paid much attention to the ESPYs over the years, but I think the winners are chosen primarily by fan voting.

You are 100% correct. I did not vote so i dont have a right to complain but still

It's mostly a popularity contest among mostly American casual sports fans, guided ever so slightly by ESPN's choice of nominees. That's how someone like Emma wins. I didn't vote, but I can't imagine how I'd vote for something like best soccer or hockey player; I'd probably just click a name I somewhat recognized or heard the most about recently and move on. Rafa's win does show that his accomplishments must be "breaking through" to American sports fans who don't necessarily follow tennis.
