Nadal not good enough to meet Federer outside of clay from 2004-2008

LOL Nadal was minor in 2004. Now that I got that out of my system. They met plenty of times outside of clay during that time period (they played 3 Wimbledon finals in a row for example). Nadal was the better player in most of this rivalry, but Federer made it more respectable in 2017. Both guys have had amazing careers and are worthy candidates for the GOAT title.

I'm a Nadal fan, and I'm all for a little friendly back and forth razzing, but Fed leads the GOAT race. I do think he will get surpassed by both guys, but he's by no means a weak era chump. If anything, the tour from mid-2014-to the present has been the weakest it's been since the late 90's. I do think the early 2000’s was weaker compared to say 2007-early 2014 though.

Yeah, how dare he avoid Nadal now after playing dozens of matches against him before on clay?

He's supposed to be a pro tennis player, so avoiding difficult or dangerous players in not an option, unless one wants to admit to the public that you cannot handle one player.

Federer simply doesnt have the numbers. In a goat debate who won what when other greats were goating is absolutely key..and Federer a distant 3rd. He was winning Majors when Henman was world no.4!! Thats how weak the tour got

Um what? Federer's numbers are the reason he is leading the GOAT race. He has the most slams, weeks at #1, 5 year end #1 finishes (now he definitely got lucky in 2009 when Nadal was injured in the middle of year), 5 WTF wins, and the 3rd most MS1000 wins. He will most likely break Connors records for match wins and titles won as well. Like I said, I think he will be surpassed, but right now he is in the lead fair and square.

Since 2015, 8-0 outside clay. Nadal has ways to go in terms of making up for 2004 - 2008.

No. weeks at no.1 is irrelevant. YE1 is what matters and since Nadal and Djokovic became adults he has never been YE1. Not once in 10 years. WTF is irrelevant, ask any professional player and read some of their books, all refer to it as a corporate event that akin to an exhibition event.

His problem is his resume looks more impressive pre Nadal and Djokovic..he has never proven he can beat the best more than they beat him. I think Nadal leads the race, but I can see why some will say Djokovic does. Federer has no arguments in his favour.
