Nadal not playing in Basel

Exactly my thoughts. He wants Federer to make it to 02 and beat him there.
Nadal is licking his lips since 2008 and he is hardly meeting Federer.

You mean licking his lips after the tasty bagels and breadsticks Fed fed him at the WTF since 2008

Anyway, a pity for fans there who were hoping to see him.

Seeing some fans on this forum and others, I wouldn't be so sure.

It's always a pity when a player has to pull out of a tournament.

I guess I just have a hard time imagining that anyone could be so obsessed with a tennis player that they would attack their rival unless the obsession was in part sexual. And given that the vast majority of violent offenders are men and that many more men are heterosexual than homosexual, it seems likely to me that women are more likely victims of such attacks than men. Let's hope that there is no more attack of this nature. I am still sad about what happened to Monica more than 20 years later.

Incidentally, I have been wondering lately whether Monica might have won the calendar-year Grand Slam in 1993 had it not happened.

Took me a while to comprehend  I was worried that Delpo had pulled out of Basel reading the first two lines.

sad capy is sad.

No you cant say that. First off all watch some Fed and Nadal marches played in Spain the only thing you will see is the respect from the crowd towards Fed. Djoko make himself unpopular in Spain with his ugly celebrations after 2011 Madrid final. It is also a fact nobody loves Djoko outside of Serbia anyway,it isnt just a Spain thing.

Is that a fact or an opinion?

Better check your facts.
Tennis crew out here all prefer Novak over Nadal. As Federer ages the old Fed farts are loving some Novak. The man can play and is an all courter.

I always felt she has it in her. I maybe a Steffi fanatic but once I saw Monica, her aura, playmaking ability and winning instinct can not bet denied.

Federer got really scared that he beg Rafa not to come, so that Fed won't be humiliated in his own home country. How kind of Rafa .......

LOL for that Fed would have to make it to the semis or final to MEET Rafa which probably isn't happening the way he has been playing lately.

eNeSK is just a bit upset after the Delpo debacle in Shanghai. Please don't be too harsh on him ;-)

You might have a point there.

Nice that Federer will get a higher seeding for this tournament won't have to go through both Del Potro and Nadal to win.

Nadal is making a smart move he has more to gain in the Paris Masters and the WTF than Basel. He needs to rest.

This is a great move by Nadal. No need to play this small tournament.

It also opens it up for Federer to finally get a half-decent tournament win this year, hopefully he can do it.

LOL! No. Basel has always had sold-out crowds, Nadal or no Nadal, and irrespective of Federer oriented matches. Try plying your "**** iz so kute and gr8 and every1 luv him, no?" propaganda elsewhere.

Saying without Nadal at Basel hurts the attendance is like saying IW without the WS hurts the attendance. That's far from the truth.

So glad he pulled out. I had a feeling he might. Too much tennis these past months.

Time to rest them weary bone.

Actually, Rafa not playing DOES impact the crowds. There will be fewer in attendance. Of course Roger is the biggest star (and deservedly so) in Switzerland, but Rafa is probably next. After Roger, Rafa has the biggest influence in attendance, even in Switzerland.

I don't think it will matter at this point. Folks most likely pre bought tickets.

I don't know, I think it's kind of lame. First of all, wouldn't it be good to get some practice playing an indoor tournament before Paris? I feel like the year end #1 is extremely important to him, so I'm surprised that he wouldn't want to get a couple of warm-up matches before Paris, plus whatever points he might be able to rack up.

Secondly, it kind of sucks for the fans. I think it's rather flaky and bad form to drop out of something 48 hours before it--whether it be a dinner date with a friend or a tennis tournament. Would it really have killed him to go win a couple of matches and then, uh, tanked, as they say?
