Lol this was awesome. What a complete jackass, he's becoming. Unreal of a statement. So after years of basically no one worth mentioning caring about the event, he feels since he's won it he can elevate it to that stature? This guy should shut this trap of his when he can, before he's labeled a complete wacko. He's well on his way, just needs another beatdown spanning an entire year to do the trick.

Nadal is very patriotic indeed but I think him putting OG above slams has to do more with the Olympic atmosphere than the actual tennis event there(which has little history).

I remember that in 2008, before he even made finals in the Olympics, he was writing about the atmosphere in the Olympic village, how awesome it was to meet so many incredible athletes from so many sport and so on. He really seemed to get a kick out of it, he sounded more like a sports fan than a guy competing in a olympic event. :)

How many tournaments does Rafa have to win before he becomes secure in himself?
 
Can't see the reason for all this butthurt honestly, Nadal's stating his personal preference, heck Novak would probably still say the greatest moment in his career was winning DC despite the fact that he reached #1 and became a Wimbledon champion all in the span of few days last year, I remember Fed crying after losing a Basel final to Henman etc.

The opinion on the value/importance of the Olympics medal vastly differs from player to player.
 
I have listened to this several times and I cannot hear­ Nadal saying that the olympics are bigger than the­ slams. He says that the olympic games are very special­ for many reasons, the biggest one being that you are­ representing your country.

you should note that your own argument dismantles Nadal's idea. it is nothing close to reasonable. therefore one cannot respect that.

using a analogy to ilustrate :

I dislike Queen, but i respect those who like. why? because i can recognize the merits in that refered band.

I dislike Jessie J and i disrespect those who like why? her music is absolute fecal matter!!!

well said. unfortunately most people here can't see the difference between their livelihood and the nation's livelihood. that is why a certain country always has problems getting NBA players to play in the olympics for example. it is always ME ME ME attitude. the same logic applies to why certain countries cant get its act together, and see how far they have fallen behind the rest of the world. because that doesnt matter at all. its all about their own individual livelihoods.

read the piece in context pls, if your limited cerebral cortex allows for that. he said it is the most important because it is about bringing glory to his nation. and why is that important? because national glory trumps individual glory to him. do you understand that?

IN TENNIS (you know... the sport we are debating here) it is unquestionable that the greatest achievements are related to slams (FO; AO; USO; SW19). so anything not envolving those 4 tournaments as the benchmark of greatness is self-inflation delusional grandeur.
