Jesus Christ, I didn't know that. Obviously even impossible is possible.

Great thread, Lazy Ninja.

I hope he gets the Stephan Edberg Sportmanship Award this year as well. He fully deserves it after the great sportmanship he showed in the AO final.

He already got the Del Moral award, so no need for the StePHan one because there is no such award. Unless David changes his last name to Pherrer. Try Phabio Phognini.

Thank you sir FoD.
And as already pointed out by another poster, Nadal has already won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award in 2010. :)

is it an award for the best haircuts ?

At least you think Rafa has good hair. No?
A shocker, coming from you vlbj

ummm, shoud i quietly accept the sentence reduction from the golden bull council ? or should i say the truth ?

.................. and admit that i was posting under influence ?

ok ok, i've not been entirely honest with you...
it's not even a matter of posting under influence: it was just supposed to highlight the obvious fact that his haircuts just suck, and that i was innocently wondering if he was going to do 'even better' this year.

That picture from 2006. He still had a full head of hair :p

He was so much more likable back then with his long hair, pirate pants and sleeveless shirts - the audacious young rebel trying to dethrone the king. However as he grew older and all but dethroned the king, he started looking more and more like the pretender and wasn't himself comfortable taking on the role of the king. He became someone else altogether. The grumpy, whiny old man that he has become today is so unrecognizable. The hair (or lack of it) doesn't help either.

The fact is Nadal is liked by most of his peers and respected.
.

Then why the long list of players who have had complaints against him ?

LMFAO. I just noticed you included Rochus and Koellerer to make your case. Definitely not the kind of people I'd like to have on my side.

You may not like have to have them on your side, but they were ATP players.

Incidentally, The-Champ pointed out that Soderling was commentating during the AO for Swedish TV, and he had nothing but positive things to say about Nadal.

Are you saying Soderling thinks high of Nadal, when he mocks him on court by bitt picking ?

Elaborate please.

Nadal is most comfortable as the underdog and the hunter. He started getting uncomfortable when he became the hunted. He got more whiny, started acting more entitled, his camp more obnoxious , always toting injury excuses for shock losses. (I didn't follow tennis as closely as I do now back when Nadal was still rising, so it is entirely possible that he always had all these traits and I only had a casual fan's view). Also, all his other tics/antics probably were alright for a young, rebellious, irreverent 'challenger', but didn't anymore when he became #1 and was supposed to be an ambassador for the sport. This transition coincides with the transition in his hairstyle and clothes too. I feel his earlier hair and clothes were more Nadal. Now he looks out of place with his old antics but new hair and clothes.

Federer has a long list of players who have complained as well. Murray, Berdych, Djokovic, Rochus, etc. What does that prove?

Nadal has won that award too. Does the award only become meaningless when Nadal wins it? Or is the award an honor bestowed on any player no matter who receives it?

without turning this into a fed vs nadal discussion.

Let's just look at Nadal's behavior from a different perspective. Think as if you played Nadal in league or tourney at your level.

So, in the warm-up, he hits the ball harder than average which is mildly irritating.

Then, you are waiting to spin the racket or toss coin to determine who serves and he sits on the bench arranging water bottles, eating power gel, and bouncing legs up and down. He makes you wait several seconds before he comes over.

Then, he jumps up, bounds out and bounces up and down during the racket spin.

Then, after the spin, he runs zig zag bouncing around like a cartoon character to the baseline.

Then, he frequently takes over 40 seconds between points.

And, he brought his uncle to watch his match who sits in the corner talking to him in a language you don't understand during the entire match.

And, then he takes a MTO at 4 all in the 2nd set after you won the first.

And, then he picks his sweaty shorts out of his butt crack on almost every serve. He uses his picking hand to toss the ball that you have to touch later.

And, let's assume you play this guy several times a year and almost all of this behavior is consistent to every match you play.

After playing the guy a few times, even Nadal's biggest fans would be ready to scream. I would hate playing someone who did this stuff.

Ouch! When you put it like that........ anyway I guarantee that Crisstti will be here any time now to counter every single point you've made.

It hasn't changed me mate it's just that I can't abide people who see no fault in an individual and believe that he is the model of perfection like Crisstti does regarding Nadal. The best fans are the ones who support their favourite but recognise that he/she has certain faults whether it's on the court or personality wise. I'm sorry, I like you and I don't want to fall out with you but that's just the way I see it.

Can you provide me with a list of Benoit Paire's faults?

It's not Nadal fans' job to point out Nadal's faults. Nadal is the most disliked player by the Federer camp as it is, and they don't need any help.

Of course I'm not saying that Nadal fans should point out his faults, just that they shouldn't make him out to be perfect either. And you're right, Paire has his faults as well like his on court attitude at times where he doesn't really look like he cares. But when I see him moving around that court ooh I can easily forgive him! :)

Fair enough. You know there is a faction of posters who believe their idol is a demigod who was destined for greatness since he was a zygote, right? And that they also think that the match is always on his racquet, even when he is destroyed by Nadal and Djokovic?

How about raising some hell with the radical Fed fans? ;)

Do not let our quiet demeanor fool you. We thoroughly enjoy Nadal fans ripping new ones on the Fed fans.
Especially ever since that "accidental" elbow to Stans head during DC photo op.

The major problem appears to be that a lot of overzealous fans - if not rightout 'worshippers' (I'd like to refrain from posting certain names in this regard, here... :? ) - don't seem to be capable of understanding that one can indeed be/remain a fan of a certain player, but, at the same time, being able to recognize - and criticize - certain mistakes said player indeed makes at times.
Hence my current opinion on Rafa. Yes, he makes mistakes and I don't see why it's such a massive problem to admit it. And same goes for all of the other players imho.

Extremism, fanatism, it's a sad and horrible thing, perhaps even more when it comes to a matter of such relative minor importance as is tennis - sports - fandom.
Let's not even mention the silly buggers who think it's proper to address to the sport of tennis in terms of 'war', 'killing', 'warriors', 'death' and such - fortunately the main protégé of such horrid terms has currently - finally - been banned over here.

Thanks Providence and Good Riddance.
ktxgbye!

Just that the Fed fans really have been on a song since Nadal lost AO. We could use some support, you know.

Tough Janowicz insults Djokovic and Federer

05-Feb

The Pole had a very controversial interview to call Djokovic a fake and Federer a guy that thinks he is above all. At least Jerzy had some nice words about Nadal.

Jerzy is a wonderful player, but he definitely have some PR problems and he needs to fix that.

After his incredible tournament in Paris in November when he reached the final coming from nowhere, the Pole made headlines only for his incredible tantrum in Melbourne when he started to shout as a possessed man... and now this one...

There are reports on the web that during an interview he defined Djokovic a fake and Federer a guy that thinks he is above everybody.

The Interview

Apparently in a recent interview at a local newspaper he said (google translation)

"I don't have any idols, I'm not following the examples of anyone. I liked Sampras for style, Safin for character. I like watching Federer, but lately I am missing Nadal because he hasn't playing for 8 months."

Then Jerzy elaborated that he liked Nadal "Because there is no fake, he behaves like in life"

Djokovic is a fake

"Djokovic is fake, he shows off and acts. Federer is a guy who wants to be above everything. In this context there might be something unnatural of him, hard to feel he is one of us" said Jerzy

"When lower ranked players were protesting because Slam organizers were paying us only 14% of their income, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic were on our side, though there are millionaires, Federer said that according to him is OK"

You can see some tension building up in the locker room...

I think Vettel takes this....him and Red Bull were just in a different league from anybody else. I also think Cristiano deserves it a lot, best offensive player I've seen.
