Nadal should have gotten a point penalty for taking too much time before serving

He got a warning in the beginning of the match. But even after that he kept taking more time than the 20 seconds allowed before serving and never got a point penalty. There are rules, I don't understand why the umpire forgot about that rule.

well, seriously umpires are sitting ducks there. u can see what cowards most of them are.

I think they tolerated too much players like McEnroe, and now they dare not do anything.

Maybe some higher authority told him during the rain break to forget it. His first code call was at a stupid and crucial point. Fortunately these calls never bother Nadal's play...maybe selective hearing.

I think they either need to be consistent and issue those code violations consistently or not at all. Calling it at 30:30, but tolerating it all the time otherwise, common on.

There is no way, no how any umpire would have the guts to call a time violation and take a point in a match of this significance. I mean, a lot of time is spent waiting for the crowd to shut up. If the umpire cannot control the crowd (and he can't), then you can't hold the players to 20 seconds.

It would have been interesting had Fed started complaining about it to the umpire. But he didn't. You have to let the players play.

Were there times when Nadal wasn't ready when Fed wanted to serve? Fed was moving awfully fast toward the end. Too fast for his own good, maybe . . .

There is NO way on this god's green earth that the umpire is going to give him a point penalty while he is making history by playing the best match in history of tennis.:)

It would have added to the drama =O..lol..but ya..I agreed with what JMac said about Nadal being warned at a bad time.

To be honest did you expect for him to go further? I mean yes i agree with you that Nadal should have been given point penaltys left and right. But you have to look at the view of the Tourny director hes not goingt o screw up the best match in history just for a couple seconds..

yes... but only because it takes so long too watch... if the tv peoples could edit his time wasting out and let me have continous footage of points played i wouldnt care...

He was always going to get the code violation for the moment Mr Mollcoddled Federer s[pke about it the day before. The Swiss tried to get into the umpires mindset and should have gotten a rollicking for it

absolute crap the message above...
nadal should be warned and given penalties just like any other players on tour. in the wimby final yesterday he was rippuing the **** with his antics and its a disgrace the umpire didnt deal with it effectively. its cheating and he should be repremanded properly each and every time in my view. why should he get away with it!?

This post made me lol.

CRY MOAR.

Cry me a river Fed fans that think that rule should be strictly enforced. They never enforce that rule so why would they start now?

Why in the hell do they wait to give him a warning in a crucial part of the match (serving out the 2nd set) when he was doing it all day? At RG they did it when Rafa was trying to close out the the 2nd set (essentially the match) against Joker in the semi's, and then again the same exact thing in the finals against Fed.

It's obvious to me that the powers that be are trying to derail Nadal at important stages in Slams in order to allow (try to allow anyway) Fed to break Sampras' GS record, but Nadal is too good and mentally tough to let it happen.

Unless the opponent is complaining, it should be and was a non-issue.

do you really think federer is going to complain? he´s very gentleman, he would never do that. but he really was taking a lot of time. things like this meake me dislike nadal and players with similar behaviors.
