Nadal slams French 'campaign' to discredit Spain !

Everyone knows Spain has been intentionally dodging the case. It's obvious for everyone to see, they're even trying to destroy much of the evidence obtained in the raiding of Puerto.

The case broke out in 2006. It's 2012 and they still haven't finished destroying the evidence? Those spaniards are pretty damn slow.

Yeah. As if Fuentes of his wife are much reliable sources.

A shame, BTW, that a respected newspaper like Le Monde would engage in something like that. One sees so much that kind of thing. Canal Plus, that racist article against Nadal in The New York Times, that tabloidish interview by The Telegraph (I believe). I wonder if the "serious" press was like this before.

Now that's rich.

From who else do you want to hear from to make it a valid source other than the mouths of the culprits directly involved? From God?

Sorry, but there is no way to discredit these reports. They keeping their mouths shut might be what is making Spanish Sports cling in its last remains of reputation. Or sure you know better?

Lovely response, but this kind of remark isn't very useful nor productive in this dicussion.

You either acknowledge that the problem is real or you may stay (in denial) ignorant in La La land. Ignorance is indeed a bliss.

Hey I'm just going with your theory, nothing more, nothing less. If the spaniards wanted to destroy the evidence(and there were something like 100 bags of blood from Puerto if I remember it right) as you say, I think they would have done so by now, SIX YEARS later.

Since every Spanish authority is in on it(again, according to theory), surely six years would have been enough to destroy the bulk of the evidence and hand out a few chumps for the press to chew on.

No. It's something called innocent until proven guilty, which must always prevail over witch-hunting.

There is no witch hunting, the WADA simply wants the Spanish authorities to hand over the evidence and cooperate with them, and yet the Spanish authorities for whatever reason refuse to do so.

There is no reason why the Spanish authorities (anti-doping agencies, government, etc.) shouldn't be cooperating with the WADA and you know it.

Many of the members on this forum just wonder why Spanish authorities/federations/etc. refuse to cooperate with outside third party anti-doping agencies. Their actions in the Fuentes and Contador case have made them look extremely suspicious, and you can't tell me that we aren't allowed to be suspicious when the explanations they come up with are way out of this world.

This is a truly outstanding post, and it's hard to argue against it. Really well put.

10thumbsup

That's fine enough, but when doubts start being cast over specific sports people without a shred of evidence, then it is not good.

Did you even read the linked article? This no theory of mine.

It's what has become the general consensus by outside law enforcement, doping control agencies and the little MSM interested in this case: Spanish justice is unwilling to delve further in the case.

What you seem most concerned here is scoffing at things you don't agree with and levelling down the tone of what is being discussed.

The fact that WADA had to request judicial authorities for the evidence to not be destroyed is completely illogical. Spanish authorities seem unconcerned, to say the least.

It's the lack of transparency on cases like this that compromised Spain's chances to host the 2016 Olympics and will likely do it again to 2020's bid.

No Olympic commitee will let a country with big doping scandals and bare bones anti-doping legislation host the Olympics.

I tried sending you an email. Drop me a line if you could, cheers.

I know where you are coming from. If the doubt is cast wrongly it can damage the sport, and the sportsmen.

But look at it from the other side: Americans - press, fans, nearly everyone - took the same stance on baseball. They enjoyed the sudden and exciting explosion of homeruns and angrily denounced anyone who tried to question what was going on. The baseball establishment, giddy with the explosion of the sport's popularity on all those homers, refused to implement a meaningful testing policy. Innocent until proven guilty is a wonderful principle. But it's not the only one that protects the innocent. Circumstantial evidence should be chased rigorously by the authorities, and suspicious individuals investigated. That's the only way criminals can be brought to justice and the other innocents - us sports fans - protected from cheaters and frauds. Are you saying that because there is no hard evidence available to the public that we should all look the other way? That's what we did in baseball and now we have a decade of bogus records and fallen heroes to look back on. Baseball survived, but only after the cheaters were rooted out of the sport. I fear that your attitude will ultimately only lead to ruin for tennis. In protecting the reputation of our sport with the cloak of denial, any doping problem that exists will only get worse. And then, when the truth finally comes to light, the damage will be much greater for the sport as a whole. I hope the ITF realizes this before it's too late.

And for those who are in the denial camp, or just wondering what the heck this is all about, here are some comments from former pros on the doping problem in tennis:

http://tennishasasteroidproblem.blogspot.com/p/players-talk-about-doping.html

There is something going on here, but we just don't know what it is. And for the future of tennis we have to find out. That's my opinion anyway.
