Indeed. Same goes for Davydenko.Kinda surprised Tommy Robredo didn't make the list...
i know the facts, i saw the numbers on the screen, whereas federer fans just know what they want to be true
You are a clown. If you're going to state facts, you have to produce evidence to support those facts, otherwise it's just an opinion. Looking at your screen does not produce real stats.
And I agree with Mandy, I've seen many empty seats in Nadal's matches, where Roger's matches have a lot less. And giving USO 08 as an example is bad, because Roger was getting the biggest support in this tourney, some would argue even more than the americans. It was clear the tennis fans wanted him to win the last slam of the year after losing the last one in a very tight contest. Plus, if I recall correctly I think the crowd was acutally against Nadal in the semi against Murray.
Surprised to see a tennis star in there for America....good to see though. Nadal appeals more to the American style - he seems more down to earth than Federer, and his intensity and excitement out on court really brings in the fans. Nadal is good for the sport, I don't see how anyone can see this as a bad thing, other than the most intense *******s.
Strange that you did not make the same request and comment from Mandy, especially when Mandy is the one the spoke first.
With that said, you guys are in a lame argument that neither is going to win, enjoy.
youll have to produce the stats to prove that, because i know for a fact nadal sessions had far greater attendance during the 08 us open (by a margin of thousands, despite playing one less match), it was mentioned during coverage that year
could i see your stats?
youd have to have watched the tennis that year, i didnt take a photo of the tv
i dont need to produce stats i already saw them, plus nadal wasnt in the champions day
I see it at clubs, parks and in general. Nadal might be non-American, but he's being adopted pretty quickly over here.
You know how gay folks co-opt, and even 'out' certain celebrities? Well the Chicanos, Latinos and the Native Americans love Rafa over here....maybe they identify with him. I've noticed Asians and Indian kids love him too. So do middle aged white dudes who normally like Roddick types. High Q rating....ethnic crossover Benetton look with a hardworking, humble persona.
What's not to like? He's a nice kid, he's quick, strong, agile....he's pretty down to earth/almost blue collar...he'd win an All-Madden award if he were playing football.
A nice change from the skinny, lilywhite clubby tennis player stereotype of yesteryear.
I agree. After Wimbledon 2008, lots of people know who Nadal is. You can see a bunch of noobs on court with Nadal gear and APDC's who cant even hit a ball over the net.Nadal is exremely popular and becoming more so by the day. He is drawing a lot of new fans to our sport. I talk to people at school that have no idea how tennis is played, however they know who Nadal is.
Oh no here comes the haters again LOL
Looks like Americans are just as racist as ever. Until the top 10 has the same racial distribution as the actual world population, I conclude Americans are bigots who judge people by the color of their skin. Not a shock by any means to see such a group of people picking Nadal over the infinitely better Federer.
You are newer than me here so I just want you to know that EtePras posts nothing by nonsense. He himself isnt serious. Are you being sarcastic? America is a nation, not a racial group. There are several black people in the list, and Nadal is Hispanic whereas Federer is Caucasian, so if anything they show their lack of racial bias by picking Nadal.

Mandy doesn't claim any facts, and neither am I. It's impossible to do that, and that is why the whole argument is silly. Mandy's claims were based on what she saw, and as far as I remember she didn't refer to them as facts, unlike 8pNADAL, who clearly said he was stating a fact.
For the record, I think both Fed and Nadal are ultra popular, and I also think it's natural that the #1 player in the world is the most popular player.
No.It was everywhere last year that Federer was drawing the biggest crowds at the USO and was getting maximum crowd-support.
Nadal is Spanish. He comes from Spain which is in Europe.
Definition of Caucasian:- A person belonging to that one of the main ethnological divisions of mankind which is native to Europe, North Africa and western and central Asia. (Chambers Concise 20th. Century Dictionary)

same here...Interesting list, Tiger Woods is the only other one i've heard of!
E-Poll scientifically surveyed a representative sample of 1,100 people age 13 and over. Candidates were limited to active athletes, coaches or commentators with a minimum 10% awareness rating.
That is a statement if I ever read one LOL
One thing is beyond doubt, both the writers of that article, the ones that constructed that survey, and, most of all, the voters, have *no clue whatsoever* about tennis.
But I guess that doesn't at all matter.
Yep, Britney Spears is the best singer out there, and McDonalds the best food you can get...
Britney is the best MOM out there, NOT singer. See how polls results get screwed up. That's a classic example.
Well I think we're hinting at the same line of thinking anyways.
I always have a beef with this kind of polls - and whenever it concerns a US one, the results usually make me sigh with disbelief and wondering whether they are indeed that superficial/stupid/whatsoever or that they just asked the wrong part of the crowd. I sure hope it's the latter.
BTW, no insult or whatsoever meant towards US folks. After all, Eurosport has Simon Reed.
"Sure I can do that too, I'm pretty relaxed....but no i'd like to congratulate Juan Martin on a brilliant tournament....I had a great one myself but he was the best."
"And I mean of course I'd have loved to win but I've had an unbelievable run here.....I would have never have thought 5 to 6 years ago I was gonna win 40 matches in a row here so its been an amazing run for me."
federer after del potro beat him at the us open:
federer was heavily praised for this on-court interview, it was his shining moment of sportsmanship according to all articles written about the final, its funny though how it still sounds inept and somewhat pompous that he would mention his 40 matches in a row thing :-? when you compare that to nadals style of answering questions it isnt surprising that nadal has become more respected

You need to read up on the NBA then. jkjk guess basketball internationally is as big as tennis is here.
I stand corrected. Should have been low-brow and said white.

i think some anthropologists recently published an article debating the accuracy of Dr. Nadal_Freak Jr.'s ethnologic theories...What do you mean " Nadal is Hispanic whereas Federer is Caucasian"?? Nadal and Federer are both Caucasian. Spanish people are Caucasian as well. Although Nadal Freak once believed (may still do) Nadal is a mix of Indian/Mongolian and Negro Hispanian.
Since we're busting out convincing empirical evidence such as "I saw stuff on TV", Federer has around 3,100,000 fans on Facebook, whereas Nadal has only 2,000,000.
