Nadal-Thiem had a high quality most of the time. Nadal-Medvedev only clicked into high gear in the 3rd.

Both with a decent amount of drama, but Med-Ned was more. Overall, it goes to Nadal-Thiem.

Nadal Thiem was great but only QF stage level of tennis was really high.Last night match was a total classic until last moment you just cant be relaxed. This match is comparable 2008 Wimbledon Final.

Nadal and Thiem was pretty much a slug fest, plus Nadal got shut out in the 1st set. The match last night had a little bit of everything and had more drama. I have to go with that one although the Nadal/Thiem match was damn good.

Nadal and Thiem had a higher quality but this one had more drama given it was a finals and that a win by either player would likely alter tennis history.

Nadal/Thiem was awesome. Thiem was hitting with force from both wings and it was an even match right down to the wire. Even bageled Nadal.
Nadal/Med was more dramatic because Med had to go into reserves to try to even the match from 2 sets and a break down. More drama.

Nadal's season ended due to the Thiem match. His whole body broke down.

It wasn't just the Thiem match. It was a combination of matches and he also went 4 hours against Khachanov and didn't have it easy against Basilashvilli.
Yup, I mentioned Khachanov in a previous post. The Khachanov 3rd round match took a lot of grueling effort from Nadal. He was dead by the SF.

Nadal-Thiem is one I really need to watch back if it ever makes it on to Youtube because I was there in person, and so stressed I don't think I could quite appreciate it for what it was. Still, a bagel set is a pretty damning mark against it. The first couple of sets yesterday might have been tentatively played and not very exciting, but they were not BAD.

Couple that with the fact that this was a final, and unless I'm mistaken didn't Nadal-Thiem have both guys hitting more errors than winners? Yesterday not only were they both in positive territory in that regard, but the way they both started to attack the net and mix the play up also never really happened in last years match as far as I can remember.

2019 all the way. Higher stakes, higher level, more variety.

A fresh Nadal would've made easy work of Basilashvilli in straights. But he was still feeling the effects of that brutal Khachanov match. Nadal had to go beyond his physical capabilities to get through Thiem and by doing so, he was finished for the SF as Del Potro took out the remains. Although Nadal still fought but he was done.

Nadal/Verdasco AO 2009 SF was awesome too! People seem to have forgotten how intense that match was. Nadal was only 22 in that match so he was able to recover well enough with a day off for the final against Federer.

Nadal-Thiem was a bad rollercoaster ride. We all knew when, where, how and why it was likely to end.

interesting matches to compare. both epics that involved comebacks and same stadium, but like others said, 1/4 vs. a final makes last night’s final much more significant. That there was a bagel set should in no way, shape, form, or fashion detract from his epicness imo. Nadal wasn’t playing poorly at all when Thiem bageled him; thiem caught fire off both wings. the tactics were more intriguing and at issue last night in that final though, which added to its quality.
