One can be an outstanding tennis player and a hot man at the same time and can be appreciated for both at the same time as well. There is no incompatibility between the 2. Of course if you're a Fed fan you probably came to believe that those characteristics are mutually exclusive but I assure you they're not. (Same way a great writer can be a great lover or a great cook, human beings are fascinating for that, you know, they can be a lot of things all together, they're not doomed to one-dimensionality- although as I said before, it is true that some are

My point wasn't about Rafa's perceived hotness (or the lack of it).
You know, if you try harder, you will miss my point even better.
(For the record, I am a Nadal fan foremost, but know enough about Tennis to appreciate what a great talent Federer is too. )

I knew that once this got out,the only possible follow up would be a "Nadal and Shakira are dating" story. This is bullcrap IMO. Nadal is 23,Shakira is pushing into her mid 30's. Both have had long time engagements with their halves.
It's pretty clear that they have some chemistry but I don't think that they are more than friends. Sure,if they were closer in age I think Rafa could dump Xisca for Shakira but knowing Rafa and his character(and his values) I don't think that is the case. Plus,Nadal seems like a laid back kinda guy and I don't think that he could have that lifestyle with a popstar as his girl.

Keeping things in perspective, Nadal is trying to cash into his celebrity status while he's still a force in tennis. Given that his career has been going downhill for the past year (by his standards), I would say it's a wise move. I don't think he's sacrificing his practice time for this video.
That said, it's still a distraction from a single minded focus to tennis, and that is what Nadal should be doing if he really plans to stay among the top players and regain his former position. Let's hope it's not something like Ivanovic's stunts when here career went down the toilet.
Finally I am sure Nadal is well compensated for that video. And besides Shakira is one hot woman. Who can blame him?

as fans all I can say is we always think we know it all based on the few articles they allow us to read about them, a few photos and clips, until there's a scandal or something that makes us realize that actually, we don't really know them at all.
All I can say is that i've learned my lesson in the past. I'm never going to be as confident and arrogant enough to think that I know any celebrity well. So I guess what I am trying to say I never rule anything out just because some articles tells me a person is that way, and they could never do this and that. It's just not healthy to think that you know a celebrity through and through. :mrgreen:

I still have doubts about Rafa's acting skills. He doesn't seem very gifted in his commercials. But who knows? Maybe Shakira can train him.

Please, wait a moment. Most Nadal's fans are genuine tennis fans as well. Nadal has a very young image, so of course, you will find many young people who are just starting to discover the game amongst his fans. It doesn't mean that his fanbase is not interested in tennis. I've been watching tennis since mid-80's for God's sake. And I've never been interested in Safin, Haas or Agassi if you see what I mean.
