Nadal going to face Youzhny in the next round. Should be an interesting game, they are 3-3 on h2h all of which are on h/c accept 1 clay match exactly 2 years ago which Nadal won comfortably 6-0,6-2.
    Any thoughts/predicted result???

Nadal should win, but perhaps lose his first set of the clay court season.

Nadal shouldn't have any problem with Youz on clay. A pedestrian 6-3 6-4 win for Nadal.

Youzhny is playing well this year, but Nadal should win comfortably.

Youzhny beat Nadal the last 2 times on very fast hard courts. (Dubai and the US Open) On clay it will be a different story as the ball will be jumping on Youzhny which will bother him. Also Nadal will be able to defend better on slower courts.

Youzhny and Berdych are the two players that have me most worried here - not so much their clay court play but the psychological effect they have on Nadal i.e the fact that they have beaten him before. So has Federer you may say! The last time Nadal played Berdych on clay was not that easy. Having said that I am really pleased this time that I cannot see the matches live as I would really hate to see a Youzhny "salute" again which really bugs me

Nadal wins 7-5, 6-2. Youzhny will fight for a set but not be able to gain the upper hand or win the important points to win it. He will become demoralized and go away a bit in the second.

Predicting Nadal is going to lose on clay is like predicting Federer is going to lose on grass. It just doesn't happen unless something is seriously wrong with Nadal.

i presume nadal will beat youzhny but IF he is not at his strongest, i just don't see how he is going to pull off the rome hat trick with the likes of djokavic and eventually federer up ahead. these are the fastest clay courts in europe. pistol pete even won here. this is where rafa's the most vulnerable. look at last year. fed had match points but pulled a yana novotna.

point is if nadal manages to go through youzhny, djokavic, and eventually federer, there is no way on earth someone will beat him 3 sets out of 5 in paris in a few weeks.

Also if he does lose it wont be a fast court player who does it, unless maybe it is Federer, but it wont be a fast court player who is not Federer like Youzhny.

Well the player has to be attacking Nadal to beat him. I think he's gotta feel comfortable with clay courts as well. Kuerten in his prime is the perfect example of a player that could beat Nadal on clay. I don't see anyone like that now days.

Yeah, you're probably right on that one. But the Dubai win, he was too good that day. Anywho, watching another Roddick murder given by the hands of Chela right now? :). Looks like he's gonna win 6-0, 6-4.

Because Nadal is king on clay & is unbeaten in 70+ matches on the red stuff. Federer on the other hand has been losing AND playing badly.

Nadal went to the hospital yesterday for dizziness. I think Youzhny has a good shot.

Not good news for Nadal :-(

But according to ATP, even if he does withdraw, Nadal's streak will remain in intact. "A withdrawal is not considered a loss or a win," ATP spokesman Nicola Arzani said.

Can't say much for Youzhny if he has to wait for Nadal to have a dizzy turn in order to beat him on clay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes,I have heard that Nadal went to see doctors about dizziness and they said that he should be fine.So we will have to see what he is like when he turns up. Besides,Nadal is such a machine he could probably win with dizziness anyway.

Nadal serve first. Held his serve. Then broke Youzhny's serve in the next game. 2-0.

    Perfect start for Nadal.

If Nadal and Volandri can beat Federer, why can't Youzhny beat Fed ?

  34. How do you all think Nadal is looking. He doesn't look too good to me. Just doesn't look fresh or entirely confident.

Ok. Now he just played an amazing point. Wow.

Nadal probably likes seeing the names Berdych, Youzhny, etc. on clay courts so he can even the head to head. Too bad for him Blake never gets far enough to meet him on clay

Yeah, that and also he plays in only two tournaments that Nadal plays. Rome and French Open. The odds are unlikely since his clay game isn´t good enough to go far and his ranking is too high to play him early. Also his five set record is terrible. It´s possible that they never meet on clay, ever. Blake is 28 this year.

Nadal is in the groove. Nearly impossible to win a baseline rally against him for Youzhny.

  50. I honestly haven't watched a lot of Nadal on clay. He just seems off a bit to me? I wish he would hit the ball a little bigger at times...

    What does everyone else think?
