A very exciting matchup I think. It's cool that both Nadal and Federer have run into interesting 3rd round opponents. Haas has looked great to me, and I think he will trouble Nadal. I pick the Spaniard in 4, and I feel like I'm being conservative.

Hope Rafa in 3 but sure it won't be one of those Rochus or Santoro matches... Haas is really good.

Ah, for once we'll be on the opposite sides ;)
I'm really excited to see Tommy play this well (actually to play at all was already a high). Hope he brings his A game, as he did tonight. Anything and everything could happen then.

Yeah, I know you and Gorecki are two convinced "Nadal haters" here, lol. But no way Tommy's gonna kick big Rafa's ass :) If he does I'll be very very disappointed. I like Haas, he's a great player and I'm sure he'll make Rafa "run around like a rabbit" (as Marat puts it) but I hope the rabbit stays uncaught :):)

It gets tough for Nadal from here. Gonzo or Gasquet after this, then Simon, then probably Murray. But there are a few other players like Monfils and Gulbis who could give him serious problems too. If he comes through it, it won't be like his cupcake draw at the USO.

Gasquet is a joke for Nadal. Murray, Monfils, and Simon - very tough opponents for Nadal on HC indeed.

Gasquet is more than a cupcake against Nadal.

More like a triple-layer, upside down pound cake. Especially that driving backhand and whopping serve.

I have one link for you - http://www.atpworldtour.com/3/en/players/headtohead/?player1=gasquet&player2=nadal

Well Gonzo then. We all know what can happen when Fernando and Nadal meet at the AO.
Agreed, that's a dangerous opponent. Insane inside out flat forehand is something that really bothers nadal.

Nadal in 4. Everyone who's commented on the conditions say they aren't as fast as last year. At the USO I would give Haas a much better chance.

You guys can pump up the rest of Nadal's opponents (before the SF and presumably Murray) all you want. But don't expect to be taken seriously. I'd give Simon a slight chance. But the rest of the bunch aren't mentally strong enough.

Haas probably has the same difficulty as Fed would with Nadal's spin to his backhand...although his is somewhat better

What has Haas done in the last 3-4 months?

Nadal in 3, no sweat. Like 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.
I agree with a previous poster, most of the field is just not mentally strong enough wrt Nadal.

Haas in one and a half sets. Rafa looks really exhausted.>>>> Especially after his first round win against Frodo Baggins.

Haha I had to laugh at this one. Haas's backhand is way better then Federer's. Nadal might get some free points that way but he will be going into Haas's strength if he does this a lot.

Nadal in 3, but it'll be a close match, I predict a 2nd set tiebreak. I really like Tommy's game, he has a nice all-round game, and on this surface he can do good. In their last match (Was it Toronto or Cincy?) he gave Nadal quite a fight, but ended up losing in straights.

According to you freak, everyone's backhand is better than Fed's. Funny how he stayed on top for so long with such a lousy backhand.

2009 just came and you are already winning the Worst Poster Of The Year award. Again.

Haas has one of the best backhands of all-time and probably the best one-handed backhand. The rest of his game isn't that great though but he has his moments. You Fed fans think Fed is great at everything. He has a weakness just like anybody. Nadal's weakness is his serve.

Hahaha, statements like these are the reason no one takes your post serious. Did you even watch their previous matches? Why is that Haas has even taken so much as a set from Nadal in their previous matches? And don't give me it's because of the rest of his game. I saw thos matches and Nadal did the same exact thing, topspin to Haas backhand, Haas hits a short ball and Nadal either hits a winner or pulls him off court.

Absolutely, anyway I think it will be Gonzalez and he is very tough too. Nadal has such a tough draw, it's hard to imagine him surviving it all but I like his form and I'll take it one match at a time as I know he does.

Gonzalez is not mentally weak, that's just nonsense.

I have to agree with you here. After his epic battle with Frodo Baggins in the first round, I could tell the draw was fixed to make it as hard as possible for him.

He wasn't weak in the Olympics final or at AO 2 years ago. I like Gasquet's game better but he is mentally weaker than Gonzo IMO.
They are both mental midgets. When it comes down to a close or tight game they will both fail. Gonzo probably wouldn't have made it past Del Potro in the 07 AO had Del Potro not retired. The rest of his matches were pretty much blow outs. I can't recall one instance where I would say Gonzo was mentally tough.

Rafa in straight sets. Tommy who?
Roger that!
Haas is mentally weak. Rafa will mow him down in 3 sets like he did with the other rookies he's faced.

I'm surprised to see some Nadal fans losing faith in Nadal. Unless his Knees are an issue, or something freaky happens, I expect to see a good run this year.

I'm certainly not losing faith, I think he's in great shape (and serving the best I have ever seen him do) but I reckon he has some very tough matches ahead of him.

Haas looked very good so far, but so did Nadal. Anyhow I expect Nadal to take this match in three or four sets. Hoping to see a very entertaining match here!

Why is everyone ignoring all outside factors....nothing is set in stone

Skill wise this will be a blowout...but you NEVER know what could happen....or is Nadal impervious to injury? a bad fall could screw him over...this is Haas only chance

One can't be scared of Haas. Come on, the guy is 30 years old, ranked #79, just back from injury and played his best tennis in 2002 (that's 7 years ago!). If Nadal can't handle Haas, then he doesn't deserve to be #1, as simple as that! (He beat him in straight in Cincy even though he was far from being fresh and playing his best tennis there, IMO he should do even better (scorewise) this way around).
After that, there will be more chances of an upset: Gonzo (because he beat him at AO before), Simon (because of Simon's fighting spirit, he won't fade away like others and his game is seriously improving), Monfils (because of the Doha match and I feel like he's improving too, fewer UEs), Tsonga (obviously because of last year) and Murray (the man to beat at AO IMO), but Haas, no, no way.

Any player can get injured at any time . Wishing for a player's injury however is...yikes :(. Nadal looks extremely fit , so the chance of that happening is not very high IMO...

I wouldn't wish for a players injury...if the player im rooting for wins by injury i'd be pissed not only am i missing a good match but the "victory" means nothing

Look at Wimbledon 07, no doubt Fed pulled it off but it would have been closer towards the end had Nadal not been injured in the Fourth

Besides i want either Simon or Murray to destroy Nadal
