Nadal vs Top 10 Players on HC (since Winning Indian Wells 2009)

which legendary player was going to stop nadal from winning roland garros this year that he did not face? Federer? Djoker? Lol u have gotta be kidding me. The only player that people thought had a shot was soderling, and nadal showed him that he was still the king of clay. Any draw on clay for nadal is an easy draw.

Not sure. We all know Fed does better in the best of 5 matches, so him getting to the finals here considering that and his level of play says a lot. He's probably not going to win tomorrow, but I'd still put him and Murray above Nadal right now. Nadal is #3 now IMO, I had him at #2 favorite before, but Murray's run has given me a bit more faith in him than I had about 2 weeks ago.

I had murray as no. 1 before this week. I had federer and nadal similar with nadal a slight edge. After these last 4 matches I have nadal increasing the gap even more (slight gain) over federer. Should be interesting tomorrow. :)

A clown draw would be not facing a single top 10 player and getting Verdasco in a final... that's what pretty much happened with Federer's Wimbledon 2010, except his pigeon of choice was Roddick.

o_O you first of all mean 2009. Strike #1
Um Roddick was in the top 10. Strike #2
Shall we go for strike 3?

LOL, I just realized that in the three HC masters played up until now Rafa has lost in the SF to the eventual winner: Ljubicic in IW, Roddick in Miami and Murray in Toronto.

That it interesting :)

Small consolation... but I think most would prefer losing to the eventual champion.

yes normally, but he played very well against Fed in parts of the match. I think he can bring that to cincy and the court would play in his favour. This aint no dirt field.

You do realize that Nadal in worse form than now beat birdie in Cincy 09' in straight sets(not a easy match though) and he beat tomas again in IW 10'. He does have the game to beat Nadal on hardcourts though.

so next up is fed at cincy ? ;)

Well probably, since Rafa has become, to quote a user from yesterday, " a SF specialist". Which is kinda true, he has lost many SF on HC over the years.

But I don't think they will meet. Rafa has a pretty tough draw, he may go out before SF in Cincy, he has to go through Wawrinka/Berdych/Fed/Murray or Djokovic. That's a tall order for Rafa on HC.

Let's be honest, Because of his fight, consistency and competitiveness, a SF finish is fitting for Nadal and reflects his ranking in the HC order.

Nadal tends to lose a lot to the eventual winner at MS. It's been happening for years....

Nadal would go behind Federer and Murray as the third favorite in my opinion.

I'd agree with this. In fact those are the only 3 guys I can see winning, but Murray and Fed both have a far better chance of winning it than Nadal IMO.

Fed (40%)
Murray (30%)
-gap-
Nadal (10%)
-gap-
Roddick (5%)
Berdych (3%)
Djokovic (3%)
Soderling (2%)

And then the rest of the field...

In the 16 months since defeating Andy Murray to win the 2009 Indian Wells title, Nadal has yet to win a title on HC and only has reached 2 finals on the surface in 11 tournaments.

-Nadal is 2-13 vs top 10 players on HC during this period.
-Nadal is 0-12 vs top 8 players on HC during this period.
-In these 15 matches, Nadal won a total of 7 sets.

Now, please understand, I am not making this thread to bash Nadal in any way, only to point out the facts. Nadal is not a given to win the US Open, and it is my estimation that he is not the favorite due to these facts mentioned.

If Nadal rectifies this in the tournaments before the US Open, with wins over top 10 opposition, then maybe he should in fact be looked at as favorite. But as of right now, Nadal's record on HC does not stand up to being the favorite to win the US Open.

It is very rare that you win any Grand Slam without defeating a top 10 player, and at Nadal's weakest slam, top 10 players have been his achilles' heel - he is 0-3 vs top 10 players at Flushing Meadows.

Yo! You've got to admit nadal's playing hard court tennis. I mean more stronger ground strokes, serves everything.
I don't think it's appropriate to compare nadal's results from last years or his career before 2010. he's getting better and better. all he needs to do is to perfect his volleys so that he could find a way to end points earlier. I bet he won't be able to play like this more than 4years from now.

I don't think the 2010 US Open Champ cares whatsoever about what forum posters think about his hard court game. Move along, nothing to see here...

Thanks James Flake for inspiring Nadal to win the US Open. Your troll thread pissed off Nadal and made him more determined to win the title.
