Nadal vs. Tsonga LIVE

I know Rafa will get into this match. But, its striking how Nadal's ball height doesn't bother Tsonga at all.
Interesting- Tsonga is indeed tall, and strong enough to take the ball high up without feeling ill effects on the shoulder (seemingly- looks can be deceiving and he has a history of injuries).

Analysis has also shown Nadal to be flattening out his groundstrokes on the hard courts as a way of finishing points quicker and not letting others wind up. Plexicushion, while slow and favouring Nadal's retriever-like miracle saves, is quite low-bouncing too.

Tsonga is really the perfect guy to model your game after. He's very relaxed out there, is very patient and doesn't mind playing defense, but when he gets the opportunity he quickly turns to offense.

Everyone talks about how he looks like Ali, but I think that he also PLAYS like Ali would if he were a tennis player. That's exactly how Ali used to box - relaxed, defensive, moving around, and then out of nowhere he'd sock you.

Nadal isn´t playing bad in these games, it´s Tsonga who is on fire. Serving very well and hitting deep shots. Let´s see if he can keep this level for 3 sets. 1-3

Come on... I'd doubt he's doping.. I hope your joking...

If he were doping he wouldn't have a finesse game.. just crush everything. His head wouldn't be in it.

There he goes again.. too many UF errors.

Somebody tell me if Tsonga shouldn't be talking most of his shots sooner. It looks like the ball is past the apex and beginning to drop when he makes contact. most of the time.

Nadal is overhitting a bit and that says something. I've never seen a player really make Nadal think he can't work a point and go for too much too early.

Nah, I think Tsonga is cool, Nadal has massive spin. I think Tsonga is pretty safe, but he DOES take it early for the winners

Tsonga makes this surface look so fast. He's completely outplaying Nadal at the moment. Not really having any difficulties with the spin either.

Nadal is under SO much pressure. It's just amazing. I think Tsonga can win, but I don't think he can keep up this level of play.

The way he's playing, I don't think anybody has the right to critique his game. But I figure the reason he's doing that is because Nadal's shots come up so high, he's making the wise decision of letting them drop into his wheelhouse.

Really all depends on Tsonga maintaining, I don't see Nadal going down so easy. Awesome shots though, hope he keeps it up!

Excellent play from Tsonga but he is going for a TON on his shots...I wonder if he can keep that up all night.

I think this match will revolve around which player earns the right to step into the court. If Nadal keeps being forced 5 feet behind the baseline by Tsonga's big flat strokes, J-W will drop shot him to death. It's a really sound game plan.

Nadal's FH aren't done much against Tsonga's low, speedy BHs. Seriously, I think I'm watchin vintage Safin out there.

Nice volleying technique too.

I had said as much to a mate, I didn't think the height would matter, he's big, athletic, and moves well.

The question is....I'm worried how Fed would cope at this stage (and I wonder if Fed is sitting in a hotel room wondering the same thing?)

If Tsonga keeps pressure like this on Nadal, even Nadal is going to run outta energy.... Winning strokes on both wings from Tsonga..
