Nadal vs Zverev roland Garros

Zverev wins straight sets. No shame in that though. Nadal will always be clay goat. It’s probably better for Nadal anyways. The deeper he goes he could do irreparable damage and be in pain the rest of his days who knows. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was addicted to pain meds like oxys or Vics already with all his body has been through

This is the surest sign that the draw is not rigged. No way RG organizers want Nadal out in the first round in Rafa's last RG.
If memory serves, David Ferrer was retired by Alexander Zverev at the 2019 Mutua Madrid Open.

This is probably going to be the last match of Nadal's career.

It's kind of funny that the same top ranked player is going to retire two Spaniards, who competed in the same era.

Yes, no doubt that Zverev wins. May be five sets against such a player is Impossible to win for him now. It's bad luck but he will get a night session and a great opponent for his last French Open match. Better than an exit against a no name.
But may be something is possible at Olympia with the reduced field and best of three and as I think even the greater chance is the double with Alcaraz. I think this could be his last tournament. A perfect time and place to retire. I can not see him playing US hard courts and Indoor after that.

Nothing to discuss, something crazy would have to happen for Nadal to have any chance, given the circumstances

So Rafa is facing probably the most in form player right now. What is more he is facing a player who is able to deal with Rafa's high topspin forehand exceptionally well...

In a nutshell absolutely nightmare matchup for Rafa in R1...

Ehhh don't know what to say honestly. At least it will be nice to see Rafa once again during RG. Even if it is gonna last for just one round.

Should have drawn against Djokovic. He’s nearly 300 in the world, so it makes sense that his first match is against a strong opponent.
I think the pressure is on Z, it’s his match to lose. 1st round Nadal will be tough, but not sure if he has enough in the tank to win 3sets. Though, I can see him taking a set and being competitive early in the match and weaken as the grind continues. But I’m not counting Rafa out in the 1st round yet. I think he’ll give it all he has for as long as he can, and that’s dangerous.

People overestimate Zverev because of his win in Rome with a garbage draw. I can easily see that Nadal will beat him. Zverev hasn't beaten him on slow clay yet. As Nadal said, he wouldn’t have come to RG if he wasn’t ready to go far.

No

People don't need to estimate Zverev just based on Rome draw.

He was in 3 straight rg semifinals.

2021 - lost in 5 set to tsitsipas. He could just as easily be in final.
2022 - beat Alcaraz who was second favorite and then lost to Nadal in controversial match.
2023 - while playing like a mug before RG, he reached semis here.

If Zverev does lose to Nadal who is playing at 50% then I don't know if there will be any future for him. He is a choker but he would need to choke gigantic amount to lose to Nadal who is playing at 50%. If Nadal was even playing like 2015 I would think Zverev can choke. But 2024 Nadal is far worse than 2015.

Zeverev will have to deal with a lot of emotions playing Nadal again.

Who knows how much that 2022 encounter is still in his brain.

Nadal might just turn back the clock a bit for one last match.

Nadal should be good for a set

What is this coming from Djokovic fans. He is still playing against Nadal in RG. It's not the end of the world for either of them. Would you still say same if Nadal somehow wins this then goes onto win against other top players or all.

Yes. I have some red lines.

Your red line is not see again Nadal winning RG right?
I had simple vision for Nadal to even have chance at rg.

Have super easy early matches and build confidence. Don't get dragged into long matches until semis and finals then miracle.

Zverev is the worst pushbot we know. He will drag matches to tiebreaks and five setters and having him in r1 is pretty much game over for Nadal in current state.

you won’t be sad to see the last of Rafa? After the big 3 it’s hard for me to get excited for tennis the matches don’t carry the same weight plus the new guys have no personality

All I wanted was Rafa to have a great sendoff. He is 38 so I won't be so sad. Especially since he hasn't even played much in last 2 years. It's similar to Roger in 2022.

I am very disappointed as I wanted to see Rafa keep going farther and farther in RG. Maybe a semis vs Alcaraz.

People forget that Zverev was BAGELLED by Ruud on the Chatrier last year. It wasn't pretty. Even if he won Rome, he also lost in straight sets to Christian Garin and Francisco Cerundolo a few weeks ago. He is still miles away from his level and consistency from 2022 in my opinion. Don't overhype him.

Yes shame it’s not like a deeper run like I was thinking it’s some 3rd round epic with a seeded player but it’s a fitting opponent in terms of Zed coming full circle and maybe conquering his own demons in the process

Honestly, Nadal beating a bunch of mugs and then rolling over to the first top guy like Fed at Wimb 2021 would do him no good.

Now he at least has a chance to go big and had one final signature win/run.

His draw past Zverev is fairly manageable until 2nd week.
