All these crazy scenarios we can stop worrying about now. Plus it's Federer's first win over Novak since 2015.
2020 is going to be interesting :D

A lot is riding on Australia and the Djokodal performances there. Rafa is defending about ~1300 points only between AO and Madrid.
is that true? it felt like nadal gained more than that considering his consistency..but u might be true.

Djokovic is also defending very little in his usually dominant post AO HC stretch, but he's been abysmal in BO3 lately

This is HUGE for Nadal, because:
1. Now all big 3 have 5 years of YE#1. So he is tied in this stat with two players who used to be very dominant.
2. Now he will have more than 200 weeks at #1. He totally deserved it with what he did in his career.
3. After the epic US Open final it felt like he should get the YE#1 as a reward. But it almost got away. Well, just almost.
4. As a mathematician I can now bring to the world Nadal's theorem: Nadal ends a year at number 1 spot if and only if #{slams Nadal won that year}>1.

I am so happy!!! Same @MichaelNadal I went to the US Open in 2009 and saw Nadal play Monfils and it was history. At the time, I thought he would be the GOAT but I didn't realize how far behind he was back then. Then the injuries, and then Djokovic storming in and taking over. We have really been through it! I hope he continues to play well and keeps number 1 and gets number 20 in 20.
