Best thing for Nadal is Djokovic in the final. Nadal will be less focussed on 20 as he will want to beat a career rival and perhaps shut him up a bit for saying he is beatable. Nadal is always better if a match is a grudge match. He never loses them.
If Nadal gets a Rublev or tsitsipas in the final everyone will have him down as a lock to win and that pressure when going for 20 will likely cause him to get too nervous.
Rome 2019 will be a useful last meeting on clay to have in the bank.

Nadal and Stan have never had personal issues. In fact they have always been close off the court.
I am thinking Berdych Rosol Nick, djokovic (2012-2014 when they did not get on at all)

Djoko has talked about beatable Claydal more than a decade ago, can't prevent him from beating Dal several times later.

One sentence: Rafa sucked in 2014/2015. That is literally all you need to know. Even 2017 Nadal wrecked Stan, it was just two bad years for him, hard court, clay, anywhere.

Not when you look at the h2h at Roland Garros. Nadal does not fear Djokovic at all and will enjoy beating him again. Nadal loves a challenge. He will want Thiem then Djokovic. Roland Garros belongs to him. He enjoys a bit of a challenge. I want thiem and Djokovic.

How does that provoke exactly? It is simply a statement that Nadal will be less nervous v Djokovic as he will not have the huge burden of expectation he would if he played anyone else. How on earth can that be provocative. I know it is a very woke era we live in but common sense suggests i am right.
 
If Djokovic doesn't reach the final, it'll be the most devastating thing that has ever happened to me.
We need to get that 10-6 lead over Djokovic at slams.

Well he has lost to Thiem the last 2 years, so either are going to be tough, and will have to be ready.
And lol at someone bringing up that "Nadal is not unbeatable " on clay quote from 2006.
Nole erased that blip for good in 2015.
Now he is going for a very rare DCGS.

You're totally right, Nadal definitely wants to face someone who has been unbeatable vs Thiem who he's already beaten in the two previous RG final.

In case it wasn't obvious, no Nadal doesn't want Djokovic in the final ffs.

It is common sense really. No.20 is a big deal. Being overwhelming favourite chasing history is not ideal. Playing Thiem and Djokovic mentally will help Nadal focus on just his opponent. Playing say Rublev could see a USO 2019 type nerve jangler.

exactly.......he is successful largely because he focusses on what he can do best against a given opponent, than worrying about things which are not in his control.......shortly after beating djoko in that great 2013 semis someone asked in the presser how he is feeling about possibly lifting another roland garros trophy, he was quick to remind him how he could lose to ferrer if he not focused enough in the final........

he would treat anderson and djokovic with the same level and intensity of focus........it is a very special trait to be honest, not many people in this world carry that kind of focus.......
