NADAL wins a GOLD MEDAL in Rio

With Nadal/Lopez's success in doubles, Nadal has now won his first gold medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics in doubles. Nadal is now just the second man in open era history to win an Olympic gold medal in both singles AND doubles, and is officially the most successful active male tennis Olympian on tour.

Congratulations RAFA!

Congratulations to him and Lopez.

Here is hoping he will win another medal in singles. :)

Also he has won 4 Davis Cups for Spain. So clearly 6 championships for his country, wow! :P

is that gold pure gold medal ? or like 14 karat gold ?

Feeling bad for the romanian team after watching the matchpoint. I read somewhere they had several break points in the 3rd, all missed, Nadal/Lopez converted their only break point in this deciding set. Well that is tennis, Would have meant a lot for Romania. But very happy for Rafa/Lopez and Spain they did a great job :) and also very glad Johnson won a medal for his country, he is a good and classy player on the court. Congrats to Sock as well. Nice podium.
Disappointment goes to Mahut/Herbert for losing in R1.

Nope. Nadal and Lopez had about 10 bp's during one of the Romanian's service games mid 3rd set, they should have broken but they blew all the bp's and choked, then Next game Lopez got broken to go down 3-4. Then Spain broke back to go 4-4. Then spain had more chances again at the end and finally won. It would have been a travesty of justice if Spain had not won after all the Bp's they had in the 3rd

Thanks for the correction. I didnt watch a single point of this final but read this on Twitter.

No probs. Spain was comfortably better in the first, lobs and passing shots worked great.2nd set, Romania took control and imposed themselves at net, Spain was struggling for ideas. Then 3rd Rafa got vocal and took charge of the team, and started making all the calls about where he wanted Lopez to serve etc, and they got back on track.

so does this mean Nadal is good at everything ?? unlike Novak is. Novak skill is no good in doubles... and Rafa skills are good at everything,,,,he has it all, volleys, serves groundies, half volleys. Rafa proved this by winning doubles gold

Yes, he did. Going by results, Dj is the worst doubles player of the big 4. Nadal is also the only member of the big 4 to have won multiple doubles Masters 1000 titles.

Nadal has great volleying skills, right behind Federer. I say rafa is the true GOAT since he is overall good at everything.
