Simply awsome tennis from rafa, but i only worry that he will play too much tennis before french open. i see that he is playing in barcelona next week too. Italian and then hamburg, maybe too much.

How lovely.

Just so you know for next time, match results go in the "Match Results" forum ;)

Fed loses three tournaments in a row for the first time since 2003! Whatever next?!

He played Barcelona and Rome for the past two years. He´ll skip Hamburg to exhaustion again. Fed will most likely skip Hamburg again as well. Unless he loses early again, to Canas. :)

The lack of class on the part of some Nadal fans (or maybe just a general fan) is unbelievable. I know you're excited that Nadal won the match, and has the best start the claycourt season he could possibly have, but this match was just over 30 minutes ago.

You have to understand that they feed on your anger. Your anger is their delight. So keep cool and fight it off. It´s hard but they´re just words.

Is Canas playing in Barcelona, it would be interesting to see him play against rafa ? Just is case rafa has to play him in french. But knowing the goofy french tennis federation, they will make sure Canas is in Federer's half of the draw though.;)

Repost from other thread: No class posters, please refer to forum rules (apparently, some of Nadal's fans can't follow forum rules anymore than he can follow the time-limits):

Please do not post match results in this forum "General Pro Player Discussion". Not everyone wants to know the result of a match right away, as they may be waiting for the match to be televised etc.

Please feel free to discuss match results at the new Forum - "Match Results".

"Spoiler" threads in this forum - "General Pro Player Discussion" will be deleted.
Thanks,

I really don´t know if Canas will play in Barça. If he does I´ll be hoping for a matchup. Right now Nadal is sure to go past 70 straight wins on clay.

Rafa is 2-0 against Canas, both on clay. Their last match was in Rome in 2005, 6-3, 6-1. It was one of the best displays of claycourt tennis I've seen from Rafa.

Fed and Nadal have no reason to skip Hamburg, as it seems that the Masters Series have one less round this year, and Rome will be best a of 3 set final.

anybody here think rafa will take ove no. 1 if he wins all the tournaments he plays in? (barcelona, italia, hamburg, and French Open)

Rafa has no points to gain in those tournaments, unless he plays Hamburg, so it all depends on if Fed loses early in all of them, which is very unlikely. Plus, I have a feeling Roger will play Hamburg, where he has no points to defend.

Nadal got the job done today... no doubt. Federer didn't lose by much just didn't play the big points as well as he could have. I think Fed should be proud of his effort. If you go back and watch the amount of spin and depth Nadal hit to Fed's backhand, you'll see how difficult it is.

I like Nadal a lot but Fed will go down as the best player to ever to play this game and Nadal will be remembered as the guy that gave him a hard time on clay.

unlikely, fed has been doing great too, he just made the finals, but when roger wins, rafa will be number 1
What? Makes no sense.

Couldn't see the match, but from what I've heard Nadal played the big points better and was quite aggressive today. Kudos to him, Federer couldn't convert BP's in the 1st set at 4:4* and let the set and the match slip away from there.
You have to take your chances against Nadal, esp. on clay, or it's over before you realize it.
Seems like this clay season will be similar to last years - Federer vs Nadal in the finals could become the rule again. Let's see if he can win against Nadal in Rome. His best chance, imo.

I'm not sure if that was sarcastic, but likely not, He can't win anymore points other than Hamburg, I'm not sure if he played Barcelona but regardless, if Nadal were to play Hamburg Federer would play it too and they would likely meet in the final and the points Nadal earned would close the gap slightly but not close enough to earn #1.

What Nadal will have worry about is after the French Open. If he gets bounced early from Wimbledon then that can seriously do some damage to his points.

I can't read through all the threads and arguments about both of them; this might have already been posted:

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID

Nadal: "I have to say it is an honour to be here up against him and to win for the third time.

“If you come to the court against the world No. 1 it's going to be tough. I was with confidence because I was playing my best tennis this week. The match was tough. I [thought at] the beginning he was playing better than me.”

Federer: “Congratulations to Rafa. I am very happy for him. What he has achieved is fantastic. I will try again to beat him in Rome, Hamburg and here in Monte Carlo next year."

“I'm not happy about the performance of my forehand. Rarely it happens to me, because it's my best shot in the game. I think I'm absolutely in the mix with him on clay, which is how I wanted to feel. You know, it's always disappointing to lose, but I feel like I didn't play well and still it was close. That's a good thing.

“I feel like I'm in good shape for the rest of clay court season, and it's going to come down to the French Open to see who wins.”

Fed sounds like Roddick after he said that he felt he was getting closer and got beat in straight sets. SO much for getting closer to Nadal. His first straight set loss to Nadal since 2004 in Miami. Keep telling yourself that Fed. Maybe when your record is 0-7 on clay vs Nadal the tide is gonna turn for sure at 26. It´s not like Fed is at his prime or anything like that.

dh003i is correct. TT-ers are (on-the-whole) respectful of the TT Rules and have a very reasonable expectation other TT-ers will also respect the rules. **Spoiling ** is not appreciated here.
