Nadal would have won more than Djokovic and Federer if not for injuries according to his uncle Toni.

Djokovic's fans did not want to believe what was coming for their idol.
Worse for them: the fall will be much more painful than they think.
:D
Fall will always be more painful for the fans.
Problem is athletes don't retire on high ground like Sampras .
Fed should have done after 2019 yec( assuming he wins Wimbledon 2019).

Fed, Rafa and Novak extending their career will going to bring their fans world of pain

Nadal's fans have already accepted that it is the end, whether this is 2024 or at most until RG 2025, on the other hand, fans of the Serbian wolf continue to think in exorbitant numbers despite the fact that his favorite player is close to turning 37 and the decline will be rapid and imminent.
Sinner and Alcaraz will tear him to pieces if the still number 1 in the world wants to continue playing until he is 40, for example.
:)

You’d have to think the Djokovic fans are feeling a little uneasy at the way things have played out recently. The defeats at Wimbledon and Oz must have caused plenty a sleepless nights for them. I don’t think any Djokovic fan would’ve thought it was possible to lose in Oz to a young Sinner the way he did, or to an even younger player in Alcaraz at Wimbledon.

The walls are closing in from all directions.

The only thing Djokovic & his fans can suffer from these days is success.

Exactly. So much coping from non nolefams. Why would we feel uneasy. All Nole is doing right now is extending the lead. It's already proven he is the GOAT. That's why everyone calls him the GOAT.

FYI he is the GOAT of every fanbase. Be it old man Roger or Nadal. He is not just our GOAT.

Hence him being so unbothered at AO. Feels good to be on top.

Djokovic has had the greatest accomplishments of any player in the open era. NO player wins forever so if Novak were to retire today, he would still be the greatest so that anything he wins from now on is "icing on the cake".

45 slams and 14 WTFs at least for Nadal if it wasn't for injuries then.

We might have missed the greatest if player of all time just after non-old Federer.
A young Federer probably wins 100 slams and 30 ATP finals. Only problem is he got old at 26. But it's ok. These are just empty words.

Real life only stats matter.

Very interesting idea. That would have been a perfect farewell.

Besides the Djokovic win, he played a fantastic match against Berretini at that WTF. Very close for the first set, then Fedr turned on the afterburners and started dazzling in the second set.

It would be great if players could determine retirement on a nice spontaneous momentum, but I think the endorsement contracts offer enormous incentives to extend the playing career to get as much value / sponsorship visibility as possible.
