Nadal would prefer wawrinka

If nadal makes the final im sure he woukd rather face wawrinka than federer.

Wawrinka has never beat nadal in a major ( ao2014 deosnt count as nadal was injured) and has hardly won sets off nadal his whole career. Wawrinka has next to no chance of beating nadal. Plus nadal will want to tear him apart after 2014. Unlike djokovic nadal does not choke in finals.

Federer is a 17 time major winner. Federer at his best even at 36 has the game to blow anyone off a fast low bouncing court.

I cant see federer having a 0-4 record to nadal on a hard court. Federer makes the final he wins. Nadal will want wawrinka to win i would think

Stan's trophy at his house begs to differ. Following that backwards logic in the parentheses, none of my loses count either.

Nadal would be a similarly mild odds favorite against either of them. Don't think there is much more to it than that.

You're right that people are blowing Fed's disadvantage a bit out of proportion. Yes, Fed'd be a slight underdog if it happens, and we know he loses more than 65% of his matches against the dude, including 3/3 at the AO. However, he's also beaten him 11 times, including the last time they met, which was on HC, and there's always the possibility he could redline, and the odds will reflect that.

Let Nadal reach the final first. If he is able to beat Dimitrov, he'd prefer playing Roger over Stan in the final.

Nadal passing shot quality not as good as it once still not bad for me he was making miracle passing shots at his peak which makes so difficult to approach to the net.So someone approaching to the net all day when Rafas passing shot quality not as good as it once was can be tricky.

Lol @ Stan's win against Rafa not counting because Rafa was hurt... Lamest excuse I've ever heard. And for what it's worth, Stan blitzed Rafa in those first two sets, and Rafa's "injury" didn't really present itself until well into the second set. So Stan was going to go up 2-0 on even a healthy Nadal anyway.

Exactly. Stan was obliterating Nadal before his back started bothering him.

I thought healthy Nadal never lost, which means nobody beat Nadal in a Major, no?

a lot of people forget have great Nadal's passing shots (and overhead) were!

I think he is a lock for that.

I think Fedberg may surprise Rafa

I am not as confident about his chances. I have faced disappointment these last 2 years. Not gonna take anything for granted. That being said, I maintain that Stan would be a tougher opponent for Nadal than Federer in the final. That however does not mean that Fed won't be able to beat Nadal. It's just that I fear Stanimal more than Fedberg for Nadal. Because it's best of 5 and Nadal has at least 3 sets to weather the Fedberg storm and to remind him of their previous encounters by relentlessly pounding his beautiful backhand.

yeah that s why he was getting whooped before the injury by stan..get out of here with this stupid excuses..if stan gets by roger somehow he ll beat nadal handily again ,of that I m sure.

Stop, isn't that ass picking finger sniffer bozo ALWAYS injured. I hate watching him play. He could win, ugh, I hope that Grigor or Stan can take him out. I don't think he can lose to RF, its a mental thing.

And it's so typical of players to cite an injury or make it a huge deal after they're already losing. Notice how you never hear guys who are winning/won the match make a bunch of excuses about injuries..

I thought McEnroe, Pete, Boris and Edberg all retired? Because they're the only people who ever approached the net all day long. Aside from Wimbledon 2000-2002, Fed never remotely approached the net as much as true serve-volleyers.

Rafa doesn't need passing shots against any active player.

Most of Federer's biggest disappointments the last several years were losing W 2014, W 2015, USO 2015 to Djokovic, and even those weren't so bad when you consider it incredible that he got to those finals and finished 2014 #2.

No disrespect to Nadal in his current form, but I don't think Nadal's current form is quite at the peak that Djokovic's form was at in 2014 and 2015 in those Major finals.

I think he has no chance but approach to the net especially in his own service games against Rafa.

If Rafa loses this AO, it will not count as Rafa's appendix still hurts. Phantom pain or something like that.

Jealousy will kill u. Follow another sport as nadal almost certain to win the french and uso given how good he is at his worse major

Well, Wawrinka DID beat Nadal in a Slam final and he did it right here at the AO. He could well do it again so I'm guessing Nadal is hoping he will face Federer who he beat the last time they met in an AO final. Trying to pretend certain things didn't happen just because you don't like them won't alter anything. Nadal was so traumatised by losing to Wawrinka in the 2014 AO final that he has never made a hardcourt final since.

Facts are nadal was injured. Fact remains wawrinka struggled to get a set off healthy nadal. Wawrinka is nadals and federers pigeon

maybe but nadal, imo, is still a much tougher matchup for fed than novak is

Nadal was injured before he match. In his whome career wawrinka has only managed 5 sets off nadal three of which when nadal injured lol. Id love wawrinka in final as nadal will walk it. Fedrer much tougher

Must admit I have no idea what's going to happen in the semifinals and go figure that Federer and Nadal bring us the most exciting tournament in years

Wawrinka, a man who has won more Slams than anyone but Djokovic since 2014, and the defending USO champ and to be #3 seed, is going to be the underdog against a guy seeded #9 for his clay season and who hadn't made a Slam quarter in 2 years?

Oooooooookay then.
Wawrinka is the pigeon of fedeer and nadal..wont even get last federer.

I think he'd prefer Fed. He's got Fed's number in the Slams and although he also has a great record against Stan, Stan decapitated and brutalised prime Nadal (tail-end) at the 2014 AO. He didn't just beat him but he outclassed and humiliated him almost as badly as Nadal humiliated Federer on several occasions.

Nadal was injured and since then has hammered wawrinka time and again. Federer has beat nadal 11 times. Wawrinka has hardly won a set off nadal!!

Nadal owns both but Wawrinka annihilated Nadal's archaic brand of tennis and took power baselining to a new level in terms of his combo of power and accuracy off both wings. If Nadal beats Fed to win the AO, it doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know, but if he beats the new master of baseline tennis in the final then it will speak tremendously for 'Dal's greatness. In the end, I think he'd prefer Federer, finding himself in a mental safe haven (and Federer in a potential nightmare). If he got Stan, he'd be facing a brand of tennis he doesn't have the talent to oppose and would need to depend on Stan dropping his level. Nadal was a decent player for his time, but this is a new day. If Nadal can rise in this new day, he's the undisputed GOAT not just of tennis, but of life.

Nadal hasnt lost on hard court to wawrinka since 2014 but beat him three times without losing a set!!!! Care to explain that?

While your at it why did wawrinka get manhandled by murray at french open ? If he is the baseline god?

Yes, Murray is part of the new vanguard of excellence along with Wawrinka. They learned to work smarter and better and overhauled the outdated GOATs of yesteryear. The problem with Stan is that he tends to only reliably show up at the Grand Slam events but I blame the media for that; the media has crippled Wawrinka's potential and in a large part ruined his career.

Even though you're jinxing I actually think Federer would have a decent shot against Nadal should he make the final. I'd call it 50/50 actually.

I think at this point Federer might be past the whole mentality thing and just want to finally cross the line no matter who it is, whereas Nadal is hungry as hell and playing good tennis. Hard to tell who will win.

I sense some irony in your post but assuming u r being genuine please elaborate onnthe media point. Genuinely interested.

I was entirely joking, but there could be something regarding the media in terms of how Wawrinka was in Federer's shadow for the longest time. I don't know if this helped or hurt him but clearly, the biggest difference maker was acquiring Magnus Norman as a coach. About the media, they harp on about Slams too much. I won't place Wawrinka ahead of Murray if he wins this AO, for example.

Rafa has been injured so much. Fortunately, he has now finally recovered from his pidgeon injury and Slam QF injury it seems.

My biggest bug bear! Ill play the game as a nadal fan that slams are the be all and end all as the media potray but tennis is more than the slams surely. The goat debate wouldnt be a debate but for the obsession with the slams. Yes they are the pinnacle of the game but historical context needs to have more weight attached to other tournaments or why bother having them.

Murray way ahead of stan imho.

I think stan has done brilliantly. He has suffered the same problem stich suffered because of boris becker. He basically curtailed his career i think due never escaping beckers shadow. Wawrinka has done brilliantly achieving what he has in the shadow of one of the top 4 greatest ever sports people.

Howver we in danger of getting sensible here!!!
