Nadal

I’m sure everyone has noticed that Nadal has pulled out of Miami the last few years citing back or knee issues. Then a few weeks later he wins everything and goes on to win the French. Why not just be honest and say you prefer not to play on hard courts at this stage of your career unless it’s a grand slam

He has given up trying to win Miami.

Because he did have back issues this AO. He was, therefore, being honest.

Nadal could only compete without major problems at the AO because he received a medical procedure (an injection in the back) to avoid feeling pain. But momentarily avoiding the pain is not enough to solve the physical issue. The problem was still there and he needed time without playing to recover.

He needed at least one month without playing to fully recover, if possible even more. And hard courts are more aggressive to to the body than clay courts, so it makes sense that he made his return during the clay season.

He got injured at the AO... It's almost as if a few weeks of rest and rehab makes you heal and fit again! Who would have thought that rest and rehab makes you fit and then you can play again and win, this is astonishing!!

I wonder why you aren't honest instead of generating stories.

Brutal honesty has never been Nadal's strong suite, unlike Federer and Djokovic who have no problem admitting that they optimise their schedule to peak for certain tournaments. Nadal does the same, but does not talk about it.

Ehhh, he may be coy about his scheduling (or the seasonal / ranking scheduling for that matter lol) and yet he's been very blunt about other things in the past.

Nadal knows hes not winning Miami, blew golden chances in his peak.

Not entirely true.

Beaten like a drum in 2008, 2014 and 2017.

Only 2005 and 2011 were close. Both Federer and Djokovic kept him ahead/alive with uncharacteristic errors. Gave his best and ultimately lost to a better player.

Didn't blow anything: he was kinda robbed of 3 BPs at 3-4 in the 3rd set in 2005.

Imagine an 18yo claycourter straightsetting peak Fedr on HC...

Rafa has always explained his decisions to skip a tournament. I wonder why Rafa-bashers are so under-informed.

What is the source that he had an “injection” into his back during the 2021 AO? There is nothing in his pressers about this. Source?

that was a bad linecall, but nadal was closer to winning twice as well..
2pts away from victory at 30-30 on feds serve at 4-5 in set3,
2pts away from victory at 5-3 up with serve left in 3rd set tb.

Because he has learned how to do "smoke and mirrors" from Fedr the Aristocrat.

When I don't feel like going to work, I don't actually call in and say flat out that I am going fishing instead, I say that I have a cold or a bad stomach.

This is simply common tact and consideration from the nadal.

Correct. When I do not want to sleep with my wife I tell her I have to play tennis on clay.

What do you want Nadal to say then? Avoiding worsening an injury and recovering to full health IS optimising his schedule, that isn't some big secret.

peak MiamiGOATovic making "uncharacteristic errors" at his very peak? What it tells us??

Tell me how you really feel.

Objectively though, 1. PETE 2. Lendl 3. Agassi seems like a reasonable top 3 for Miami BOAT.

I feel like Goddick took Fedr to only two TBs at 2007 USO. Peak Lube took him to 3 TBs at 2006 Miami. o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

Seriously, I'm not into cross-generational comparisons.

Nah you just feel BOATovic is the BOATest except on clay rofl.

I don't rate Miamerer lol, meh stuff.
