In my opinion 2008 is Nadal's best season. I come to that conclusion based on his level of play. Roland Garros that year was his best showing, an absolute beast, bulldozing everyone down 0-1-2 being the norm, incl handing Fed his worst ever defeat in the final. The only set that came close was a tiebreak in the SF vs Djokovic. On grass he was on fire, winning Queens and that epic Wimbledon final edging five time defending champion Federer. On HC he did pretty well winning the Olympics Gold in Beijing and Canadian Open, plus Miami finalist and strong showings at AO and USO (SFs). Other important factors in determining 2008 as his best season was his YE No1, his best GS showing for the year at 24-2, an excellent 83-11 win/loss for the year, 17 top ten wins incl 9 to other Big 4 members (as opposed to 7 in 2013 and 5 in 2010). Some like @Gary20 will argue 2010 was his best, however you can't argue that smashing Federer at RG and that epic Wimby win over his nemesis are much much more credible victories than beating Berdych and Soderling. What are your thoughts? Back up your opinions of Nadal's best season with facts.

2008 overall for me - he had one amazing win-streak from Rome (l. Ferrero) until Cincinnati (l. Djokovic) I think. Played his best ever tournaments at RG and Wimbledon, had a slightly better Win-Loss in 2008 (82-11) than in 2010 (72-10) - plus won in Beijing
2010 was better Slam-wise

It's an interesting question, isn't it? 2008 and 2010 are both remarkable primarily because he's achieved the channel slam. 2010 has the fact that he's added a third slam to that channel slam, while 2008 featured the longest 3 surface win streak of the past 30 odd years. For me that streak is seriously special, and maaaaaaaaaaybe gives 2008 the edge over 2010, but I tend to go with 2013 overall. The Roland Garros draw was as tough as he's ever had there, and the North American swing was unbelievable stuff. The fact that he came in off that long layoff, and the fact that he bested Djokovic at both slams that he won after all the trouble he had with the guy in 2011 and 2012 for me really does give it the edge when you take context into account.

Not sure what are 2007 and 2011 doing there.
In 2008 he crushed Fed at RG, beat him at Wimbledon in that epic and had a long winning streak. In 2013 his hard court season impressed more than the one on clay. In 2010 he won 3 Slams, but IMO his tennis level was better in 2008 and 2013. Subjective on that though.

Great thread. Ill just give it to 2010 on the basis the FO/W/USO has never been done before and they are the three biggest Majors on thre different surfaces.

However, the Olympic Gold is huge as well, and that was on HC, and alot of your arguments are very valid, beating Federer is the ultimate challenge in tennis back in those days. I could be persuaded to give it 2008, it would depend on which Rafa himself valued more, Olympic Gold or USO 2010.

I do feel at the USO 2010 he was oing for his CGS so the pressure may have been more than the Olympics possibly. Its close, very close, ill just go for 2010.
