Nadal's chances at U.S Open overrated?

Everybody seems to be over rating Rafael Nadals chances at the U.S open this year, especialy people that are considered experts like Bud Collins and others. He is not even the most likely to make the final, Andy Roddick is the most likely to be in the final with his current play. Rafael Nadal has a dream quarter which is the only reason he might be most likely to make the semis, however if he plays like he did this summer it would be disssapointing if nobody stepped up enough to beat that level of tennis. If he somehow reached the final, which I highly doubt, Roger Federer would be the huge favorite on these lightning fast hard courts, which are faster then the slower then ever Wimbledon grass. I would be surprised if Nadal even won a set if that final came be.

Man these days everyone and everything is overated except the posters iof threads like this (in their opinions anyways:rolleyes: ) LOL

Federer and Nadal are big match players, thats why they are 1 and 2. They will both step up their play big time and New York and cruise to the finals.

yesterday I spoke to peter luczak ( lost to michal russel today) and he said that us open courts are playing slower this year.

I think Nadal will easily make it to the finals. He's come a long way since losing to Blake last year at the u.s. open. He elevates his game when he needs to for the big tournaments. He'll probably drop 3 sets on his way to the finals, but unfortunately for him Federer will also be in the finals and take him down in 5.

I thought I saw that Federer was going to run into Safin second round. That's not a dream draw.

No, Nalbandian has Safin in the 2nd. Federer doesn't see anyone that can give him trouble until possibly the quarter.

YES... and safin will blow away nalbandian

I think Federer will make it to final, but I will be surprised if Nadal does. Just doesn't seem his year on hardcourts, but then he might pull it out with a flair as usual.

Federer has Big Serving Rusedski or Henman in 2nd, Gilles Muller (bt Roddick Last Year) in 3rd , Ferrero in the 4th, Berdych or Blake in the Quarters. Is that an easy draw?

Nadal has an easy draw until Semis..Roddick will beat Nadal. I won't be surprised if Nadal loses earlier than Semis.

Nadal has not won any tournaments since the French Open. His chances are not too good.

06/12/06 lost at Queen's Club to Lleyton Hewitt 6-3 3-6 ret
06/26/06 lost at Wimbledon to Roger Federer 0-6 6-7(5) 7-6(2) 3-6
08/7/06 lost at Rogers Masters to Tomas Berdych 1-6 6-3 2-6
08/14/06 lost at Cincinnati to Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-7(2) 6-7(3)

Nadal will lift his game. I reckon he'll make the third round at least.

Nadal's run is probably over. I don't see anymore rabbit in his bag of tricks that would guarantee a semi-finals appearance at USO.

Nadal will be there during week #2, I guarantee it.
I don't buy into the 'Nadal can't play on fast courts or against big servers' line.
He's a different player to that of 2 years ago. He's made so many adjustments to his game in the same way as Federer has and is improving his game at an amazing rate.
Also, on hardcourts, his record against some of the top 5 servers on the ATP tour isn'y too shabby either...

Yep. Nadal may not win the tournament but that doesn't mean he could not get through to the second week.

"Nadal could not have asked for a better draw to get through to the second week," noted US Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe after the draw.

thinking Nadal will get to the final is the tournament organizers dream. I don't think he's ready for a USO win this year, but I hope to see him to do well on the European hardcourt circuit.

Why is it that people always talk as if Nadal was given an easy draw? Seriously, it was all chosen at random and in my opinion, even if he was given a "harder" draw, he would at least get to the quarters. People underestimate how good he could be on a hard court just bc he's a clay courter. If Nadal can get to the finals of wimbledon, he can do just as well on a hard court which is slower than a grass court.

Easy draw has nothing to do with chosen at random. He does get easier draw at Wimbledon and US Open this year even though they are random.

Time has changed. US Open hardcourt is faster than Wimbledon grass these days.

If they really wanted an American in the final, they wouldn't have put Agassi and Roddick in the same section and they wouldn't have put Blake in with Federer. Looks more like they want a Spaniard named Nadal in the final, though he very well could go out in the 1st round.

They are smart enough to know it won't happen this year.

True, best case scenario is both of them getting to the 4th round with one knocking the other out, doubt Agassi will go that far though.

No, this is all political correctness, going with the rankings.

Both Rafa and Roddick have a lot riding on this one. Roddick needs to prove to the world he is no longer a washed up serve&forehand guy. Rafa needs to prove to everyone that he can win a major on hard. Lessee how they handle the pressure.

I don´t know if Nadal´s chances at the US Open are overrated but his chances at Wimbledon were underrated, that´s sure.
I would like to ask: were Federer´s chances at the French Open overrated? Because some people said he was as favourite as Nadal to win the tournament and he had never played the final before and how many times did he participate?

Henman is not a tough opponent for Federer right now, he will get slaughtered like he was at Wimbledon if they play, neither is Rusedski. Muller has no big wins this year and has never troubled Federer in the past, Ferrero had a good win over Nadal but no chance he wins 3 sets from Federer in a grand slam anymore, Berdych has been a very easy opponent for Roger so far so he must be a bad matchup to play Roger, Blake is not even playing well enough to reach the quarters and hasnt won a set from Roger yet. Easy draw to the final for Roger.
