Rafael Nadal's MRI scan in Melbourne this morning shows a "grade 1 injury of his iliopsoas on his right leg". Three week recovery time expected. Still hopes to play in Acapulco.

News from the Nadal camp - Rafa Nadal set to be fit again in three weeks, should be back on Tour as planned in Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami - MRI showed a "Grade 1 injury of the Illiopsoas" (Inner hip muscle)

.............

"illiopsoas"

learned a new term, thanks Rafa

p.s. Rafa said he wasn't going to self-diagnose, but he kind of did, saying it wasn't his hip, but it was his inner hip..so has to stick to tennis, despite all his experience with injuries, a medical degree not in his future :)

Damn you're quick! Was just about to post! :P

I wish he would reconsider Acapulco.

I wonder if this late career interest in adding this tournament is his business interests there...doesn't he own a travel resort in Mexico?

maybe he just didn't want to do Rotterdam/Dubai anymore...February is kind of a quiet month, at least since Dubai kind of slipped a bit in terms of getting all the top guys

He’s supposed to just rest until...Acapulco. LOOOOOOL! Grade 1 means minor. Of course. At least half the tour would show a grade 1 something after an event.

People here talking about skipping everything until clay. When will people learn?

IT’S THE SAME THING EVERY SINGLE TIME!

Going to play in Acapulco folks, nothing to see here.

The injured guy plays every damn tournament to preserve his No.1 ranking and we're supposed to commiserate with him because the 'tour is long'

I know -- where is it written that Nadal MUST play a tournament simply because he's been medically cleared (barely) to play? Why not take some extra time off? Rest some more as a precaution? If having to retire in a slam doesn't put the fear of god into you about overplaying, I suppose nothing will. Those mercenary bastards at the ATP just refuse to save Rafa from himself!

Not sure. One of my customers at work is from Mexico and is a huge Nadal fan. I think Nadal had some tennis instructional camps in Mexico at one point.

yeah, that too...I heard he has some kind of agreement to work with young players from there

Well he cried so much thinking his world would end. What a whiner. Zip it and play less tournaments this year. Handle your schedule a lot better.

The issue here is not grade 1 being mild so he can go with his schedule like nothing happened. It is that Nadal talked about the tour being so long WHILE he himself does not do anything to his schedule to preserve his goddamned body.

Exactly. Very disappointed that this excuse of injury won't keep him away for at least a few months.

I don’t want him out. I’m just laughing because what the supposed “haters” say is actually true: nobody (other than VB) thought his “injury” (whatever it was—still don’t know) at the end of last year was major and would jeopardize his end of season and AO and it didn’t. He clinched #1, played the WTF, lost and then quit and then played the AO and looked fine until the end when he just quit.

Nobody thought this “injury”was anything because he was running everything down in the fourth set to both sides and nobody mentioned anything during the match. An MRI is taken and lo and behold, literally nothing shows up. He has to rest for a few weeks which he would have done ANYWAY and played his next scheduled event.

Like always. Every time. Just lol!

He faked injury because he was getting slaughtered by an attacking player. Cheatdal knows only how to cheat and discredit his opponents. He will never be GOAT. Federer will always be class above him.

EDIT: wrong account.

And don't you ever forget it. :D

Man this forum never changes.I mean how could you not notice how dramatically inferior Nadal's movement became after 1-2 in the 4th set. He ran down a drop shot whilst injured? The wonders never cease! He was trying to play through the pain as best as he could. He couldn't explode off his right leg to run to his forehand side, I think that was extremely obvious.

I heard that the MRI also revealed that Nadal had, in fact, also morally won this year's AO.

Which most people knew and already recognized anyway.*

*especially sureshs.
