This week for Davis Cup will work perfectly for Nadal in future .

I don't know why you seem to be misunderstanding my comment.

It's obvious that Serbian sportspeople know that they have an obligation to positively represent their nation on an international stage.

There's no "commitment" to question.

It's an exho tournament with nothing serious riding on it.

Some participants will take it more seriously than others.

It's got nothing to do with how you, I, or any other individual sees it.

It's down to general cultural perception. Serbia were portrayed as the "bad guys" during the 1990s, and a lot of that negative mud still sticks in cultural attitudes throughout many Western countries.

Is it any wonder that people from the country have a particular interest in portraying a positive image of their country on the international stage?

not to mention that the rusty peak injured golden bull was always there when spain received azerbaidjan, liechtenstein or any monster team on clay, regardless of the danger.

the fact that he's been curiously absent for a certain number of indoor ties (e.g. vs USA and argentina, when davis cup was still davis cup) is probably just an unfortunate coincidence...

He's single handedly gotten Spain to this year's Davis Cup final on an indoor hardcourt. He's been the best player of the tournament by miles.

He's won 4 Davis Cups (possibly 5 by tommorow). Your salt is misplaced.

Nadal has shown tremendous fight and character in this Davis Cup.
But one can't help feel that this will cost Rafa in AO 2020.
The problem is that this extra push at the end of the year, if it means fewer slams in 2020 would considerably damage Nadal's GOAT claim. History has shown that Nadal is best at AO when he is well rested with a long off season.

So while Nadal is doing extraordinary and creditable things in the DC, the harsh reality is that only slams matter and this tournament is inconsequential. Nadal may very well pay the price early next year...

Nadal if anything has shown me this year he needs less recovery time than ever. He will be fine, well over a month till the AO

He will have more than a month of resting. He will be fine I think. In the last 2 years he had more rest and still came to AO underprepared.
 
It's impressive how much Nadal tries in this tournament, can't deny it. But enough is enough. Today is the last day of the season, then it will be time to rest. Well, the last day of the season involves the world number 1, sounds right. :D

But honestly, all the other players in their team are very weak and are not helping at all. Nadal has to do all the work himself. And today it's going to be tougher than before as Shapovalov seems like a pretty bad matchup for him.

But the format clearly does NOT work in the US when we can't even see the matches without paying an extra fee. I'd love to see the finals, and I wanted to see the semis. But I'm not going to pay extra money. I suppose it would be different if the US tennis program was not such a miserable failure.
 
The best thing I see in DC is not DC itself but what it's bound to do for Rafa's confidence if he remains healthy. With these matches under his belt and some rest coming up he could be dangerous as hell this year at the AO.

Frickin' Spanish superstar organizes this tournament and hosts it in Spain and of course he's lured into taking part. It's so annoying.

But his performance this week has been ridiculous. He's almost like a one-man team for Spain, willing them to victory in doubles and singles. This may be the best sustained effort I've seen from Nadal, and that is saying a lot.

Win or lose against Canada in the final tomorrow, Nadal's epicness in this Davis Cup has been the highlight of the tournament and won't soon be forgotten.

Have you not noticed that any aspect of tennis that leaves Fed in the shadows is generally ignored, such as singles Olympics and DC.

Andy Murray was complaining about attendance in China couple of months ago. Whose fault is it that Djokovic and Murray are not able to pull in the crowd like Rafa & Fedr do wherever they play around the world?

The sadness that Serbian tennis players showed this week wasn't because they thought they represented the nation negatively though. Djokovic on his own has had such a positive impact over the years anyway, no amount of heartbreaking DC losses would ever change his country's image for the worse.

They all took it seriously as an important team competition just like in the years before. You suggesting Davis Cup took a nosedive this year when it has been uneventful for years already and repeatedly shouting it's an exho from your sofa won't change that.

I can imagine the scum in that crowd, even the rich people in Spain are classless pieces of **** - Nadal will be right at home, literally and figuratively ...

He managed to get in one evening (42517) what Nadal has not been able to get all week in his own home turf. True indicator of who the greatest is in the minds and heart of the public
