Perhaps you should blame Gonzalez for having such an ineffective backhand that all Nadal has to do is hit to it over and over.

I understand it gets him wins, which is why he does/should do it.

But IMO it is SO boring. I hate that brand of tennis.

Gonzales doesn't have a better backhand when he plays a guy like Tsonga or Federer, but those matches are 1000000 times as entertaining.

The reason is simple, where Federer and Tsonga hit winners, Nadal just hits to the backhand until he gets an UE. That's as boring as it gets.

It works for him, so I don't see anything wrong with that. It is boring, for me, to watch. I just don't enjoy watching him play no matter what he does.

Here's a word of advice and I mean this in a non-sarcastic way: don't watch the guy. Seriously. I don't like to watch Davydenko,Simon,Murray and I only do it if the play my fav players and even then it's kinda boring.
I can see that you don't like counter-punchers so try to focus on attackers like fed/tsonga/verdasco and so on or on the big hitters who usually go for it.

You will be less bored and better entertained.

I'm sorry, but I expect to see some attacking tennis in the QF of the US Open.

It's not like Nadal can't play agressive, but he doesn't 95% of the time, that makes it even worse.

And didn't you get what you wanted? Federer-Soderling,Verdasco-Djoker and DelPo-Cilic were hard hitting matches, with a lot of attacking going on. Nadal is the only counter-puncher out there, the rest are mostly offensive minded players.

Won't be nearly as effective against Del Potro. He has a solid two hander, not to mention he's 1.98, almost 2 meters.

Its all to your taste. i personally enjoy watching Nadal. The man is a testament to controlled aggression something i've been trying to work into my game for a while now. You say hit it to the backhand while omitting the fact that the shot he's hitting to the backhand is a MONSTER forehand that picks up speed after it bounces. You fail to mention also that its an aggressive tactic. It isn't a push by any means, it creating an opening instead of wildly trying to create one, like players such as Tsonga and Gonzales do. Both styles have there merits and draw backs
Tennis is in essentials a percentage game, and Nadal plays percentages. It's a vastly underrated, and sometimes looked down upon, weapon. Murray knows how to utilize it, as does Federer. So i will sit and watch Nadal and enjoy it, enjoy the smarts, power, percentages, and yes, amazing defensive saves.

IMO its more boring than what i think a player when leading 2 sets to love and 4-0 could do .. how a bout a bit for the crowd.. no.. guess not.. it is a BORE.

What's the difference?

If you win matches with few winners and even fewer unforced errors - you're a pusher, because you win most of your points off of unforced errors by your opponent.

BTW, a "grinder" is a sandwich. :)
Nadal punishes the backhand until the other guy folds. He's putting the pressure. By that logic, they shouldn't be unforced errors.

Againt Murray, he played 70% of his shots to his forehand.

I find hitting to the backhand continually boring... but he does what he has to do to win.

I REALLY hate the continual towelling though!

Ahhh. Too bad you have to watch a winning formula so many times as Nadal wins

over and over
over and over
over and over
over and over
over and over

over and over

Repeat 5000 times

the bigger problem is the time between points especially when he serves. go take a look at his 2005 matches and his service routine. it is way longer now, making watching very tedious.

I don't think that Nadal will get another slam-win this year, and his "winning formula" isn't much more as entertaining than Karlovic's.

Murray's plays the ugliest most boring tennis of the top players!

And Rafa has been apart of some of the greatest most entertaining matches ever.

Including some of his many wins over Federer (not the embarrassing ones where Federer is dominated).

Even Rafa's last match against Monfils was very entertaining; the first 2 sets.

I didn't mean like that. Nadal seems to prefeder getting a UE from his opponent instead of hitting the winner himself.
That's called putting your opponent's fh and bh under pression. That good working strategy won him 6 GS,15 MS and 36 titles overall at the tender age of 23:).

I never said it wouldn't work. It's still boring as ****, just slightly ahead of Karlovic's game.

The funny thing is that he's being labeled a pusher and yet he's the fastest swinger of the racquet on groundstrokes.

What does have raquet head speed to to with style of play? Right, nothing...

Most of the time Nadal uses that speed to generate spin to make every shot a safe one.

tender age of 23 :):)... gotta love the expression... i can see you guys in 20 years time sayng: oh Nadal is a great commentator and he has commented really nice all this tennis season of 2029 at the tender age of 43...

Exactly. The guy risks so little its sad to see. A lot of time you see the court opening and beg...Rafa, go for that shot!, go DTL for the winner!...and no, he still spins the ball back at the opponent backhand side

For someone with a name like "dropshot winner". ;-)

Perhaps with Delpo, he'll win each point on a dropshot that keeps low since delpo's movement can be a little clunky and he's tall. :-D
I missed the first match against Gasket, was Nadal targetting his weak forehand ?

it's easier to skip just his matches and watch national geographic.. those monkeyes are less boring while swinging in tree branches!

This is the real reason some, especially certain Federer fans, don't like to watch Nadal.

Racist much?

No one should have such a good record against Old Europe's great white hope!
