Nalby to pull out of USO

Damn. That was a tasty first round match as well. Will del Potro get a walkover or is a lucky loser taking Nalbandian's place?

Argh, a rib injury sound painful

I hope he gets better soon, his generation will be missed when they're gone, and I know I'm not alone in wanting to see these guys as much as possible.

This Nalbandian is very injury prone. I have been tracking his carrer for the past two years and he has had multiple major and minor injuries. Sorry for him. Hope he can get at least 6-8 months injury fee and get the best out of his pro career.
This matchup against Del Potro looked interesting, what a shame Nalby got injured. Does anybody know how he injured his rib?

Delpo plays Serra.
Huh? But why would Serra get the spot over Rosol? Serra was seeded 9th in the qualies while Rosol was seeded 4th and both lost in the last qualifying round. I thought it went by the seedings?

And if it went by rankings, Rosol is currently ranked 91 while Serra is currently ranked 116.

^maybe Rosol didn't stick around. Its Tuesday, most guys withdraw a bit earlier that that.
I guess Berankis didn't stick around either(he's ranked higher than Rosol)

If that were the case, that would have been pretty dumb of Rosol. He was the first or second in line to be a Lucky Loser so the odds were very good that he would get in. I mean, where else is he going to go this week?

there are several challengers next week, that is where Rosol generally makes his living. Many slams have no lucky losers, I think odds of being 'lucky' generally aren't that good, esp once the tournament has already started.

Is Delpo playing tonight or tomorrow? I hope Rosol takes Nalbandian's place, because Delpo will just steamroll over Berankis.

OK, but Rosol's is probably not playing anywhere else this week so why not stick around for a couple of days? Everyone know the 1st round at the US Open last for 3 days.

Anyway, I disagree that the odds of being a lucky loser are not good at a Slam since the draw is the biggest at 128 players so I would think that the odds are pretty good that 1 or 2 out of 128 would have some issue to cause them to withdraw.

Rib Injury? Pork Rib?

what???..... someone had to ask!!!!

Delpo would steamroll rosol and bandy just as easily.

Rosol could not qualify but now he would give delpo a close match, dream on.

I don't think anyone here would thing Rosol would take a set....maybe make on set tight.

It mostly us wanting to see two Rafa killers go at it.

Yeah, the same guy who couldn't even win a single set in qualifying at Wimbledon in a million tries but then beats Nadal the first time he got in.

these guys dont play tennis they only watch it. for them its only r5 vs r90 so rosol cant win lol
if rosol has a very good day he can beat delpo for sure. and ofc not only rosol could...

its just like raonic, ppl say uh yeah easily fourth round. yet he nearly lost first round today getting barely through giraldo. n actually giraldo couldve won that for sure.

Nalby had other things on his mind:

i was looking forward to that first-rounder. but a hurt nalby wouldn't put up much of a fight against the hairy one. better to heal up and live to fight another day.

The first in line I believe, should be Ricardas Berankis. Should there be another withdrawal, then Lukas Rosol.....I think.

Is it not done by a draw. OR is that only at WO ?

I just noticed this, what a bummer, was looking forward to that one. Now some lucky loser will get 20k to get blown away by Delpo, good for them.

Its no longer done by highest ranked player to lose in last rd of qualies b/c years ago Gimelstob was #1 seed in qualies, made it to the last rd of qualies, found out there was going to be a withdrawal, and then played one game in his qualies match, then retired, knowing he was guaranteed a MD spot anyway.

You are correct:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_loser

"Shortly thereafter, a new policy was introduced in Grand Slam tournaments. Since 2006, the four highest ranked players who lose in the last round of qualification take part in a four-way random draw, the results of which are used to determine the order in which each player will enter the main draw."

Why the f does everyone around here have a hardon for Rosol?

You beat Nadal, you're the flavor of the month. :)

Especially on a board which is mostly made up of Fed fans.

It was exactly the same with Soderling(who was more consistent than Rosol obviously) and when he lost to Nadal in RG and WB 2010 he was dropped like a hot potato.

Who is this TBD guy, The Big Dog? The USO are doing a great job of keeping this ringer's name under wraps, although we can hardly expect to know he who he is if he wasn't in the qualies.

Meanwhile, I think Rosol and Berankis are currently fighting each other to be the first out of JFK on their return leg; a shared taxi doesn't sound likely.

Typical ******* trait......They hate Nadal because he made Fed cry !!

So not only is Florent Serra the "Lucky Loser", but he's the lucky Lucky Loser. :)

Nope. We hate Nadal because of the way he plays tennis and the crap he does on the court. It doesn't matter who he beats or loses to.

If you love the beauty of Federer's tennis, you can't possibly like the ugliness of Nadal's tennis. :???:
