He was considered a dark horse in USO during the mid 90s. Agassi and Sampras did not like playing against him because of his big ground strokes. Numerous injuries could have robbed him of major titles.

I will give more clues if you guys have trouble but I doubt it.

Santoro and Reneberg didn't have big ground strokes.

I don't want to give clues on statistics because it can be looked up. Commentators had said Agassi and Sampras feared playing him on hard courts.

thomas enqvist? or the other guess is marc rosset
You got it! It was Thomas Enqvist. I wanted to say he was in one major final but you guys would have looked it up on wikipedia, His ground strokes were big off both wings. Pretty solid serve too but not as big as Rosset.

ok, although thomas did get beat by sampras quite a number of times. even on the hard courts. I think he's was more of a threat in the late 90's than mid. Clean hitter of the ball. He definitely gave andre some fits lol

I would've have guessed larsson as well, since he gave pete fits and andre some tough match, and he was an all court player with a huge forehand and serve. Many tennis pundits did talk about him potentially being a GS contender during the mid 90's.

Rosset gave both pete and andre some tough matches, he was never really injured (possibly a mental injury). however he must've had a brain cramp when playing in GS's.

Not remember him as a dark horse for the Us Open though. He was more of AO type of player more than anything.

You know your tennis. We can have a beer and discuss all night:)
I remembered reading that Enqvist was one the contenders at USO in 1995. Sampras had beaten him but the matches were tough. He gave Agassi more problems.

As for Larsson, he was good player. He gave Sampras and Agassi problems. Too bad he got injured. Scruffy looking guy.

Rosset had a big serve and was dangerous on fast surfaces.

Magnus Larsson was my absolute favorite Swedish player in the 90s. Huge serve, huge bh and specially fh. He was very much like Berdych with a net game. Unfortunately he was injury prone :(

Thomas Enqvist was a very good player with an awkward looking bh. But he hit off both sides as big as anyone in the 90s. He too was injury prone.

This is quite ironic since we are among the healthiest people in the world but we have the most injury prone tennis players. :D Larsson, Enqvist, Vinciguerra, Pim Pim Johansson and some of the guys in the 80s.
