Natural Gut Half set kidna

Need some stringing exepertees from you guys here.

I have a practically new cut out set of Babolat VS Team - it was cut out of a Pure Drive GT earlier in the year and I've had it sealed up in a plastic wallet. What I need to know is, when it was cut out , it now only squeezes in at 16 crosses for my Prestige. Really wanna string this baby up with the gut but there is what seems to be a kink in the string and it looks like the gut is kinda torn up. Will try post a picture later this evening but need some advice on this!

What would you do, string in the bottom 5 crosses with extended mains? Or just not string it at all?

Sorry...it was a joke, maybe in poor taste.

Personally, I don't know that I would try what you are suggesting. I'd be really chapped if, after the extra effort, the natural gut broke during stringing - due to the kink in it.

There are dozens of threads on re-using strings. I would never do it but I say go for it... Your racquet, your string, your game...

If this is your first gut experience, you might find it not that interesting of an experience. You CAN often tension kinked gut with no (obvious) issues, but it runs the risk of snapping.

Short answer: If you're deadset on getting it into your frame, string 16 mains, tie off at the head, and then string a box with an extra long cross.

Depending on your tie off points on the frame you're stringing, this may mean tying off at the top, stringing down the empty main, across one of the bottom crosses, up the other main, and continuing down as usual. Count your crosses to make sure you weave the bottom in the correct orientation.

I wouldn't recommend bothering in general, but if you really want to do it, your own frames are the best ones to do wacky evil genius science experiments... :)

I've strung Gut before, straight out of the packet and never had any issues, but this one I might leave. Kinked gut is definitely not for me.

thanks for the help - don't want it too snap if I string it whilst I;m playing because then its a waste of mains...

Not sure how familiar you are with stringing but you're going to have some problems. a Prestige only has two tie offs at the top and if you put in 16 mains there they go. The gut does not sound like it was worth the effort to save in the first place. I would either save the string for another racket or throw it away like you should have done in the beginning.

I was waiting for your reply bud.

String was cut out of Michael Russel's racket at a tournament here in Liverpool, he was testing it out and decided he didn't like it only after a few games, so we cut it and cleaned it the best we could it looks kinked from being sat around since July. I'll most probably leave it.

Gut doesn't kink while it is just sitting around. Even following DD's response you going to have to tie three strings at the top of the racket. With a Prestige that means you have to open up a grommet. But you could use gut in the center 14 mains if you wanted and you may get it to work. That way there are three tie offs at the bottom of the frame.

EDIT: Kink could also be the result of the tie off on the anchor string too.

Not at all in poor taste -- it just flew straight over his head. :)

It's not from a tie off, it's more like mid way into the set but I won't be using it.

try it.

if it's not really a kink (needs to be bound pretty tight to snap, IMO) then just re-twist the gut as you are stringing it.

FWIW, i wouldn't bother but i'm sure it's do-able. If you have an hour to kill, give it a whirl.
