Natural gut hybrid - hybrid it with Poly or Synthetic gut ?

Hey,

I'm about to give my friend two Head rackets as a present - and he would like to try natural gut in a hybrid with either a good poly or good synth. gut.

I've never tried synth. gut - but I consider giving Prince Synth. Gut Duraflex a try - how will this string play compared to the natural gut and the Poly string, the poly will be Weiss Cannon Silverstring 1.20 and Pacific Xtreme. 1.25

What will the benefits be from hybriding the Synth. gut with the Natural Gut instead of hybriding the Poly with the Natural gut ?

I also see that Gosen makes some popular synth. gut - what's the difference between Gosen Micro and Gosen SUPER Micro

Thanks for helping me with advice :D

Lots of people rave about Luxilon ALU Power/BB (poly) and VS Gut (or Wilson Gut; same thing).

Here's one opinion:
Right now I have two different hybrids in my kBlade Tour. The first one is VS 17 (60 lbs) / ALU Flouro (57 lbs). The other one is VS 17/Zo Tour at the same tensions.

(I've never tried it personally. I do polys and multis/synths.)

Generally a syngut cross with a natural main will allow the player to experience the feel of a natural gut stringbed. This hybrid comes closer to an all natural stringbed in feel and performance.

A poly cross will reduce the power of the natural gut and does not imitate an all natural stringbed.

I've actually been considering this exact hybrid for some reason, I seem to have come down with Nickb syndrome lately!

I love my VS, and yet Luxilon ALU Power is calling to me! And I have very little experience with poly strings! Pathetic, to say the least.

Not trying to hi-jack or anything, I was just about to start another similar thread and I saw this one. I'm sure Nick has used it, where are you? :)

If you cross natural mains with a poly, you'll find the stringbed to be a little stiffer; not so much so that it's uncomfortable, but stiffer nonetheless.

IMO, this enhances the control when compared to an all-gut job. The trade off, of course there is one, is in feel. The stringbed has a stiffer feel which doesn't bother some, but does others.

The main problem with hybrids is that the non-gut cross usually loses playability way before the gut does. This is true of most polys and multis.

Luxilon, IMO, really won't hold tension like natural gut and this could result in it not being as playable as long as some other polys. But, it is really a subjective thing.

You've never tried synthetic gut? I think you're the only one I've ever met that hasn't. You're not missing much though...

I'm being honest here :D

I've never tried it in my life. Played tennis until 1999 and then stopped and took it up again last year (lucky that I did so...I now love tennis just as much as my other big hobby, Golf)

Back in the 90's I used Kevlar strings and cheap poly like strings and played fine with them. Knew a guy who had a stringing machine and he strung my rackets for free - I only had to pay for the strings. Nice guy :)

Now I only use Multi (X-one), nat gut (Babolat VS) and Poly (Lux ALU BB, Pacific Xtremeand Wess Cannon Silverstring) So never tried synthetic gut in my life. I bought two rackets, that came with a synthetic gut installed, but I always cut the strings and install new ones, when ever I buy new rackets
