Natural gut to poly

I was a long time full-poly user. I switched to natural gut mains/poly crosses and I really enjoy the comfort. I am feeling a lack of commitment though to my shots - almost like feeling lost on the stringbed or the mind-body connection with the shot. Maybe it was the crispness of the poly that helped me with this. It has been a month since I have used this. I kinda feel the same when using a multifilament main. Anyone feel the same and revert to full poly again?

Yes I have felt the same. I really enjoy gut/poly and played for it a long time. I would get a good month and half out of it before I needed a restring.

I then changed racquets to a more open 16x18 string pattern and started out thinking I could just toss my favorite setup into that and it just didn't work. Each time I strung a racquet up I would only get about a week out of the setup before I just felt the setup got a tad lively for me and and the ball would sail and then that lead me to hold back a bit on my strokes which is something you never really want to do.

So, I switched to full soft poly (Diadem Solstice Black 16G). Now I only get 1 hit out of that before I need to restring due to the same issue but at least it is a pretty cheap setup.

I hope evenly to find a replacement stick which with a denser string pattern so I can go back to gut/poly and the magic that it produces but until then with this stick I am not installing gut/poly in it.

I dont think it was the liveliness so much for me but never being sure of the output more so. But i think you are right - gut/poly would favour a denser pattern.

It was 55lbs on both. It is more this feeling of "vagueness". Thats how I can describe it.
I know. You can string natural gut pretty tight and it will still be very playable. If you like natural gut, I think you can get rid of the "vagueness" by stringing it tighter. I'd still go up 5# in the gut mains..

I have only tried 1.30mm gut. Should I try 1.25mm? I am not a string breaker.

What poly were you playing with before? And what poly are you hybridding now with gut?

You have to swing out with gut/poly. May not feel like it at first but you get control from the spin. I find gut to respond very well the faster you swing, the ball flies off the racquet but it generates just enough spin you need to keep the ball in. It's the magic you cannot replicate with a pure poly setup.

I am 67 and string my gut/poly at 62/55.... go up to at least 60 and you will be presently surprised (I personally tried lower tensions and had the same issues until going up)

BHS7T before. Lynx tour on crosses now.

Giron kinda talks abt his switch from a gut/poly hybrid to full poly.
He actually explains his reasons in an articulate manner; I had expected some gobbly sales speak about newer technology. It’s interesting that he felt ptp lost tension too fast since pros restring every match. I suppose for practice and such it can be a factor.
