'Natural Gut Wholesale' Review (Stringing and Play)

This is true, but I will say that I'm 50/50 on my NGW experiment.
[...snipped...]
Bottom line: If you can get it off the machine and past the first set, its a great string.

LOL! I think You've just resumed the whole thread into this perfect one-liner !

IF you email Kevin the owner of NGW he will sort out replacements for strings that break on the machine.

I strung up my first set of NGW V2 and played in the rain (like an idiot) and it held up superbly. Still holding tension and looking good.

Playing with gut in the rain !?!? you may be "like" an idiot (your words, and aren't we all one time or another...or more) but definitely you're a brave soul !!

It wasnt full on rain, but the courts were wet and the strings got wet but the tension held terrific I'll try post up a picture soon

I've played both v1 and v2 in black and natural and I like it. Had a few sets break while stringing or overnight in frame. This gut is not coated so you need to be careful when handling and avoid kinks. I have not played high end natty guts so I cannot compare directly, but I think playing ngw mains with poly crosses is comfortable and spin friendly. Currently playing 50lbs ngw and 40 lbs kirschbaum max power strung on a constant pull. Note: 17 gauge is more like a 16 gauge, 15 gauge was very thick and heavy.

I bought a pack of natural 17g. Stringing in an 18x20 6.1. I think it was V2...hand written on the package was a '54# max recommended tension'. My crosses for this experiment are Hawk white 18g. Using an electronic Prince 5000, medium pull rate, 0% pre-stretch and waxing the gut before installation, the first length snapped on the third main pull. Hmm.

I took out the second half and reduced the tension to 52#, crossed my fingers and got the mains strung up. I also strung the crosses at 52 knowing they'll settling in 3-4# overnight. I like this stick with a 17/18 gut poly hybrid at 55/53#, using a 5% pre-stretch. I have hit with it three times - so have maybe 3 total hours on it. There is some fraying and one of them looks to be pretty far into the string where I don't expect it to go for very long.

Kevin offered to make good on the 1/2 that snapped if I ordered more (16g and maybe in red?). To be honest I don't think I'll take advantage of that offer though. Throwing away a half pack of either Revolve or Hawk on a three hour main string trashes the purpose of using a value based gut main string, IMO.

This is essentially my experience (see previous page). I will say, though that the red has looked like its ready to break for a while now. The black barely made it out of the starting gate (first 1/2 broke on the very first pull, second 1/2 broke after the 1st set). My tension was 50lbs, 5% pre-stretch.

Do not worry and I appreciate your welcomed comments as I can guarantee you that over the next 2-3 months you are going to see our gut take "another" giant leap forward and become a solid 25%-30% stronger. These premature breakage issues "a few" of you complain about will be almost non-existent. As this happens I welcome any of you that may have had a 50/50 experience and try our strings again. We already use a raw material that is as good as "any" gut on the market, but some of you are right due to the fact we do not use any fake polymers or severe coatings like some of the very top brands, our strings have been a bit weaker tensile wise. We already use the best raw materials in the world. Our strings are simply softer and in a more "natural" state. In fact, many of our customers love the fact our strings are more "natural" and have a "real" feel that carries out on the court. I also wish I could change the fact that even though warned some of you have had breakage stringing over 60lbs. Personally, and being a former top ranked professional myself and full scholarship division 1 player I do not get why some of you even string gut near these tensions? It just makes no sense and you lose so much feel and durability and the entire reason to use gut. Over 90% of all top ranked players string their gut in the 45-54lbs range.
But, "do not fear" we have the solution for you and it is coming soon as we take another technological leap forward and plan to virtually eliminate the potential tensile weakness of the gut. You asked for it and it is coming because you are the customers and our goal is to make sure that we are one of the premier strings in the industry. We do not settle for anything but the best and as you know in turn for your loyalty we continue to keep our prices substantially lower than the rest because we feel everyone should have the luxury to play with natural gut.
I think most of you agree the new version 2 is much better than before and it is going to continue to improve. I also want to make a point that the 16G has been extremely reliable even without the new technological advancement we are now implementing. R0ather it is the 17G that has been more finicky.
If any of you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask?
Again I welcome all your comments both negative and positive because this is the only way we can improve and become the best. I think and I know 100% our strings are 3-4 times better than the version 1 and they are going to continue to improve with a new technological strength advancement coming soon. It will be especially noticeable on the thinner gauges. We are even thinking about bringing back the 18G gut.
Though, without your support and loyalty to us we would never have grown to the point we are now.
Thank you all very much for taking the time to hear my comments.

Send me a free set and I will write a honest review for you. and what do you mean by 17 G has been more finicky ?????????
Also the reason some people string the Gut at 60 lbs or above is at lower tensions, it is very very powerful and some people just can't control that power. this is especially true just after you string it. you end up with HOT string bed. where ball just jumps off the string bed. Borg used string his gut at 80 lbs, for the same reason. NOT sure how you can achieve that Ball pocketing effect right off the fresh string job....... good ball pocketing is how you can get the best control

have you tried the 17 G yet ? how do you like the 17G ?
My daughter is still playing with the red V1 NGW - over 80 hours [emoji106]

This week I am gonna string both racquets with the V2

So I really can't complain about the red V1

Although it's time to move over to the V2 NGW since the V1 is history

And I just read that there is more improvement of these gut strings on the way!

Got 3 more sets of Black V1 left but as promised I string the V2

Hey Kevinze2- welcome on board my friend !

Here is a picture of the Red V1 NGW Gut after 80 + hours

This was the most impressive performance we reached with it

But it was time to put on some new strings

FYI - I don't have a tension meter but the - pjew - was still there when cutting out the strings !

BretH - as promised !

Natural NGW V2 16 g in the mains at 52 lbs

Grey Genesis 16 g Spin X in the crosses at 50 lbs

I'll keep you posted who it turns out compared to the V1

Yes. I wish Brett would restring it with the correct tension and give it another run because I know 100% the string is Tier 1 and as good as any natural gut in the world!

Just strung up a hybrid of the V2 16g and Lux ALU Fluoro, 52/49 respectively. Was expecting the gut to pop each time I tensioned the mains, but it somehow survived. Impossible to straighten the crosses though as the gut is so dry. The gauge of it also felt more like a 15L if not thicker. Getting it through the grommets was a major hassle. Had to keep trimming the tip of sting after each hole. Will test it out over the weekend to see if it can survive a few hours or if it'll just pop immediately. I have very low expectations.

From my post: "My first experience was pretty good (as posted earlier) but I did have one string (1/2 of a set) break on the stringer at 52 lbs." I string this at 50-52 lbs. so I have no earthly idea what you mean by restringing it "at the correct tension".

To reiterate - the first of the 6 strings - the only one that made it off the stringer - is fairly worn after a LOT of use. Feel is still great and I'll play until it breaks. That single string was a good value. The others were unusable and I have decided it is not worth it to me to purchase any more.

Here's my final thought: I have strung Global gut and your "V2" is identical in my eyes. Same variations in thickness, same variability in little (and large) flaws in the winding, same feel once strung - when you can get it strung without breakage.

The ONLY way using your product would make sense to me would be to buy lots of 10+ packages of strings (2x string sets in each pack) and ruthlessly return every one that showed she slightest of flaws before trying to string. Then try stringing the 10 or so strings that are left and return those that don't string well. Then enjoy the four to six strings sets that make it that far because they will play fine. Then do exactly the same with all the strings you receive as replacements.

From my own experience receiving replacement strings that had such clear and obvious flaws, as well as a pack that was heat sealed in such a way that the strings inside were melted I can only conclude that you do not have any means of manufacturing these strings but receive these strings either pre-packaged or in bulk and have someone you pay minimum wage packing them - someone who does not even look them over before packaging. Add to that your return policy and clear preference for resupplying strings rather than issue any refunds my best guess is you get them from what Indian supplier at very low cost to you so mailing out replacements is cheaper than refunding.

It was useful to me in one way - I'll probably buy a quality gut now because the two strings from you that did work out were a blast to play with.

I got the V2 today in 16 G. Thank you so much. will try it soon. I thought I was getting 17 G ? Anyway that is ok. it is in Gold package, it felt a bit heavy... is the string heavier than synthetic at the same gauge ?

Pro tip: If your gut has a recommended tension anywhere below 60 lbs it cannot be "100% the string is Tier 1 and as good as any natural gut in the world!"

Here is a picture of the tension specs from a pack of Babolat VS Touch 16. I strung this at 58lb in my own racket no problem at all. Tensioner pulled up quite quick, similar to a multifilliment.

Borg used to string his racket at 80 lbs with babolat gut. and Lendl used to string his racket at 72 lbs with natty gut.

I really can't complain at all !

Mostly it lasts around 40 hours (NGW V1 in 16g)

And one racquet strung with red V1 NGW 16g made it over 80 hours of playing

So . . .

See how the V2 performs

I use a Stringway ML100-T92 drop weight stringing machine

Apparently the best on the market

And I take my time - perhaps the difference lies there . . .

Every set of NGW I bought strung perfect

I doubt the machine matters much but the string does, in my experience, require
some extra care when stringing (kinks and unravelling). I've been largely successful with NGW at higher
than recommended tensions. BUt i've snapped a few half sets (both on the stringer and
in my bag). Most last me 30-40 (guessing here, i don't kep a log book) hours however.

It can be a good value, but it depends......
Calling it a premium gut would be a huge exaggeration
but i find it quite serviceable and a good deal for me. I could
see others having problems (i've watched them string.....).

As you mentioned you always need to take some additional care when stringing gut

But at the price that NGW is sold I really can't complain at all

For the mathematicians here - it costs - for me being the stringer and not taken into account - less than $ 0.50 per hour . . .

Played 2 sets of doubles and the string did not pop to my surprise. As far as the feel goes, definitely nowhere near as good as some of the more premium guts goes. It's not as soft and plays more firm. Light notching, but no fraying yet. Will continue to play with it to see what happens. If I'm able to string the 4 half sets I have w/out problem then I'd say it's not a bad deal. But if even one of those pops, I think it's not worth the gamble.

I've bought 2 sets. First half broke in one hour, second and third half broke during stringing and I didn't even tried to string last one. Garbage. Cheap, but to hope for one set of 10 will last longer and waste time and money for stringing - not worse it.
Interesting, I post my experience with the strings in another topic about NGW and whole topic was deleted afterwards.

what happens if you string this Above the Recommended tension ?? does it break in the string machine ? Recommended tension is fairly low. Mid 50's range. What happens if you string in low 50's lbs ? Won't that be kind of hard to control ?? if this gut is as powerful as Babolat gut, it will be very tough to control. Natty gut from Babolat has to be strung about 60-62 lbs for me to be able to control it.

I still think the best value in the Natural Gut arena is KLIP Legend.
For the price yes, I agree. They just did not play well for me. I tried two sets and I did not think they were for me. Maybe I need to revisit them and give one more set a try. What tension(s) do you use? I normally string at 58#.

Exactly right. Cheap gut, for me, was a wa$te of money. I prefer using a better name brand gut. They do not seem to break. I would say they do not break but I am sure someone here will throw a fit and say yes they do break and give some story of one time he had a set break, yadda, yadda, yadda. All in all, I've never had a name brand break while stringing them up. I've even had the cheap gut actually break after string and just sitting in my racquet bag after stringing it. I just had a set of Pacific gut in my racquet since 2011 break on me while playing last week. Good gut, my fav at the moment.

Apparently you don't string that often ?

With that racquet it was a backup racquet for about three years. I used it but not as often as my main racquet. This racquet had a different gut string than my main racquet is why I used the other racquet more. I started using this racquet in the fall of 2016 as my main racquet . Still, it lasted that long. Still played great and kept the tension even with it being 6 years old. It was a nice surprise it played as well as it did. I figured I'd play with it until the strings broke. It took that long. I play twice a week with an occasional mixed doubles thrown in when they offer those at the clubs I belong to.

I usually string my mains at 56 and crosses around 53. I string hybrid so it's not a full set of KLIIP. I generally use Gamma iO in my crosses. There's something about the gamma that just works well with the KLIP. I find it amazing that you can find as many people who don't like a string or string combination as do. I wasn't crazy about the new Babolat rough string I tested for TW, but my Pro at the club got his hands on some and just raves about it. I thought it was OK, but not quite as comfortable as people think it is.

I agree with you. just as many people love a string as hate the same string. If everyone liked the same string there would only be one string available. Not the case. WAY too many strings out there to even start to try.
One string I loved to use as a cross some years ago is no longer available. It played so well with my gut mains. It was Ashaway Dynamite 17, it was white and with the 17g version of the Dynamite WB 16. Now it is no where to be had. I have one set left and I want to use it but I hate to use it up. The new Ashaway Dynamite is not the same and does not play the same. Darn shame.

Strung my Volkl Organix 10 295 last night with Babolat Tonic 16 (mains @54) and Pros Pro Hexaspin (crosses @48). What a difference. String is absolutely uniform with zero blemishes let alone defects. Strung almost as easily as syngut, taking the usual care to treat it well.

Hit with it today and it felt simply great. From the suburb construction I expect it to last as long as I want (when I think the crosses might be getting old) and I might consider - for the first time - restringing the crosses.

No more messing around with bargain gut for me.
