'Natural Gut Wholesale' Review (Stringing and Play)

Wow. The price really has gone up by quite a lot since I purchased it a couple years ago. May not buy it again.

the price keeps going up on this stuff to where buying premium gut will make more sense soon enough.
it was one thing when it was ten bucks a set and i have no clue why they charge more for colored gut
when IME it is more prone to breakage.

Exactly what I'm thinking! Just seen V3 is US$23.50. That's pretty much on the doorstep of KLIP natural gut. I'd have no hesitation spending the extra five bucks for (almost) an assurance it's not going to break while stringing. Especially when stringing for customers, string breakage means I'm doing it for free or even a loss.

I prestretched the V1 at 10% (stringing at Ref tension of #60).
with little issue.

Just the did same with my first set of V2, no problem yet.

Update on my experiments so far using my weighted up (359g, 8pts HL, 341 SW, MgR/I = 21) Head GXT Prestige Pro (16X19):

First setup I tried was with Yonex Poly Fire 16g on the mains (55 lbs) and the V2 NGW 16g on the crosses (55 lbs). This felt terrible, like playing with a board - absolutely no snap-back effect. I think this has to do with the fact that the crosses were thicker than the mains, as the NGW gut is thicker than advertised. I pretty much cut this out after 2 sessions with it. Oh well, lesson learned...

The next setup I tried I put the same V2 NGW 16g on the mains (58 lbs) and then tried some Solinco Tour Bite Soft 16g on the crosses (54 lbs). This felt much better almost immediately. The snap back effect is pretty solid and I can get awesome power out of it, while it still maintains a very soft and muted feel.

I don't get as much spin as I'm used to with some of the other normal gut hybrids, but I haven't tried it with the Solinco Tour Bite Diamond Rough crosses that I normally have in my match setup that I use with Babolat VS Touch gut mains.

Played 2 solid sessions with it so far, including hitting some 125 MPH bombs and monster forehands (PoMo anyone?), and it doesn't seem to be notched at all or show much signs of damage despite some slight fraying. So far so good and looking forward to the new V3 stuff in the mail soon, as I think these gut strings could make for a much cheaper alternative for practicing and/or experimenting with other strings.

I've posted this before, I think, but I'm really interested in how well this Version 3 plays. Anyone who has used it and could review it I'd love to hear about it.

Played great, like a real gut. But to compare, less powerful than Klip, broke on me with an overhead smash. It is expensive now, i will not buy again.

Do you think the v3 gut is closer to the actual gauge listed now? I found v2 to be slightly thicker than listed, i.e. 16 gauge felt more like 15.

Apparently the v3 stuff has new machine/technology that helps them wind the gut more tightly together, so this could impact gauge/thickness.

The NGW V3 gut is way more consistent than the previous V1 and V2 versions

Moving from 16g to 17g my daughter finds that she has more control and spin

Thanks for the quick response, but still didn't answer my question:

Is the v3 gut closer to nominal gauge than the v3? i.e. does 16 gauge v3 string closer to normal 16 gauge string in terms of thickness?

Or alternatively, in relation to previous versions, is the 16 gauge v3 string thinner (more tightly wound) than the 16 gauge v2 string?

I ask because I want to use the string in the crosses, but found v2 16 gauge too thick. So, I want to order a thinner version, but need to decide if v3 is a different thickness than v2.

No clue too be honest

I mentioned in my post that I went for the NGW V3 in 17 g

Never had the NGW V3 in 16g . . .

Just shoot Kevin an email and he'll get back to you asap

He's the Boss at NGW and can help you out !

Yeah, will do. Thanks.

So you find no difference between the v2 and v3 strings in the 17 gauges? If you can't really tell the difference, then there must not be much of any at all.

Guess you are getting it incorrectly . . .

We moved from the NGW V2 in 16g to the NGW V3 in 17g

So we never played with the NGW V2 in 17g . . . . only with the NGW V1 16g and V2 in 16 g

And I mentioned in a previous post :

The NGW V3 gut is way more consistent (in thickness / gauge wise) than the previous V1 and V2 versions

Moving from 16g to 17g my daughter finds that she has more control and spin

Oh, I see. I didn't pay much attention to all of the previous posts in this thread. I don't expect you to be able to make any straight forward comparisons between the two versions if you haven't tried them in the same gauge. Sorry for the confusion.

Just thought you would know more about the difference between the two versions after your recent comments, as generally-speaking moving from any 16 gauge to 17 gauge string will give you more spin and control.

Just baught some v3 in 17 gauge to try on the crosses.

Kevin just informed me that there is a new v4 trial performance version coming out soon with an actual layer of coating!

He also mentioned that the v3 17g is closer to an 18g...

Why in the crosses and not in the mains ?

I had that info - for a few weeks already - but it's up to Kevin to bring it out !

Than the V4 in 17g will be our NGW gut !

Mostly I found that I didn't get enough spin with v2 16g in the mains and fear that I would break the 17g too quickly in the mains.

I normally hit crazy spin with poly (3000-4000 RPM) and find that I generally hit too flat with 16 gauge gut in the mains. So, I figure a nice spinny poly (with a low string-to-string COF) in the mains and the 17g in the crosses should provide the perfect blend of spin, comfort, and durability.

I've yet to try the v3 16g string in the mains, so maybe that will offer more spin than the v2 16g. Will test it out.

Give it a shot - mains vs crosses

And see what you prefer !

Cullin. every time the gut goes into the hole give the string one revolution to keep the string together-the higher tension you are using (50's) could have better playability and life in the high 40"s. Parafin works well on the strings even when stringing, but make sure to pull crosses at an angle and the wax diminishes wear during stringing. good luck.

I actually was talking about the v3 17g, compared with v2 the gauge is a little thinner but is still not quite consistent, it is smoother. As i said, play great like a real gut but i'm buying Klip now @ $25 vs $22 from Kevin. You can go 60lbs easily with Klip

I've been using the NGW for a few years now, but the price is going to force me to start buying
other gut. The appeal was the cheap price, but now it's about the same cost as Klip.

I guess KLIP is still going to be the best "value" for those of us who hybrid or use full bed. I wish the stock levels were a little more consistent. I've always enjoyed KLIP and guess I'll continue to do so.

The NGW V3 is priced between $ 21.50 and $ 23.50 depending on the gauge

And there is a 15 % discount if you use PROMO15

Put it momentarily at $ 18.27 and $ 19.97

So . . . . not bad !

My last batch was about half that when i bought ten sets (V2).

I string it at 60# just like i did the V1. Mains, 16g.

I fail to see how i'm gaining here.

Are V2 and V3 more durable than V1? I bought 2 sets of V1 abt 1 year ago and used half a set each time. Each half set lasted shorter than the previous. First half set lasted abt 3mths, not bad. Second set maybe abt a month, then it broke in my bag. Third half set was used once, then it broke in my bag at 2 positions. Last half set didn't make it off the stringer.

Not sure what you mean. Mostly doubles, with a bit of singles. I am not a heavy string breaker, but do break them occasionally.

Racquet strung 02 July for my daughter

Played for about 90 hours in practise, clinic and 3 tournament's

I had the black V3 in the mains on a Rad Tour Bumblebee and got over 30 hours out of it. I never broke it. It just kept fraying. Next I put in a set of V3 red in the mains and played 1.5 hours. Then it snapped during the night in my racquet bag. Never even got the satisfaction of breaking it on a shot!

Why would I ?

Tell or convince me please

If your daughter can get 90 hours out of it and it works for her then there is absolutely no argument that ought to convince you to do anything different.

I’ve not tried V3 to see what’s different, but my experience with V2 was 100% failure. Didn’t get past a couple of pills at the tension I need. And as I’ve mentioned before I’ve had no such issue with either KLIP or VS Touch at those same tensions. So for me it’s a false economy, and that seems to be a common consensus amongst others as well. Good for all of us to have options though :)

She loves playing with NGW gut and I can't complain . . .

The Wilson / Babolat gut is probably better

The Luxilon perhaps beats the Wilson and Babolat

But as long as she is not ranked # 200 in WTA . . . this NGW gut will do the trick

And who knows . . . maybe even in WTA [emoji6]

Many people are constantly complaining about 'cheap' gut

Even cheap is too expensive

But check all the posts here where so many players find a set of strings of $ 5.00 too expensive and asking if there is not cheaper on the market . . .

So . . . how low do you want to go . . . with what as end result ?

Tennis ain't cheap . . . but going the cheap route is certainly not the perfect / effective way . . .

Just my .02

The die weakens the gut (i've only had issues with NGW dyed gut, never natural). You don't see Fed playing black gut.

Gut doesn't some out of a cow in colors.

This is just my $.02. Do as you wish.
That's correct

It doesn't come from the red or black cows [emoji6]

The natural gut will be better but was not available at the moment when I placed our order

Thing we noticed is that the black lasts longer than the red gut

But still we manage to get over 90 hours of playing time out of it

So I really can't complain at all

Just imagine how much longer the natural will last...
I know and next time I will order the natural V3

That was actually the intention but at that moment only the black and red V3 where in stock

Rumors are an update on the V3

V4 perhaps . . .

The gut will be coated

So it lasted 25 days and close to 135 hours of playing and tournaments

So no complaining here !
